Hades Has Been Rated For PS4 by Korean Rating Committee

Hades has been rated for PS4 by Korea's Game Rating and Administration Committee, hinting that Supergiant Games' rougue-like will soon be making its way to other platforms besides PC and Nintendo Switch. As spotted by modiz on ResetERA, Hades' rating also indicates that Take Two will be the publisher for the PS4 version. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/21/hades-igns-2020-game-of-the-year"] Hades was first released on PC via Early Access in 2018, and it was officially launched on PC and Switch in September 2020. Considering the numerous Game of the Year awards Hades received, including from IGN, it should come as no surprise that the game would eventually make its way to other consoles. In our review of Hades, we said that it "is a one-of-a-kind rogue-lite that does a brilliant job of marrying its fast-paced action with its persistent, progressing story through a vividly reimagined Greek mythological underworld." Hades supports cros...

Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker Release Date Annouced

The next expansion for Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker will be released on November 23, 2021. Players who pre-order the expansion will be able to play four days earlier on November 19, 2021. The next major expansion for Square Enix's Final Fantasy 14 MMORP has officially been announced. Along with a new storyline, Endwalker will include two new classes, the healer Sage class and the DPS Reaper class. The latter was announced at the Digital Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest. The release date for Endwalker is considerably later than past Final Fantasy 14 expansions, which have typically been released mid-to late-summer. However, the developers have cited an abundance of content, plus complications with the coronavirus as reasons for the late release schedule. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/05/15/final-fantasy-xiv-endwalker-official-full-cinematic-trailer"] However, Square Enix and Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki  Yoshida have shown off quite a bit of content for the upco...

Why These Modders Are Taking Cyberpunk 2077 Into Their Own Hands

Rick, a 37-year old from Canada, wanted to fix Cyberpunk 2077's enemy netrunners (the ones who like to hack you in battle). He downloaded a decompiler that let him sift through CD Projekt Red's in-house scripting language, and took aim at some of the bugs lingering in the source code. Rick found a lot more than he bargained for. Apparently, there were a slew of enemy quickhack abilities that, seemingly, never made it into the retail disc. They had names like “HackDeath” and “HackweaponMalfunction”. Rick tested each one out by modifying the game code to use the hack with the name he specified and found some of them worked and some of them didn’t. “For some of them the hack part worked fine but the status effect they applied did nothing,” he said. "In the case of something like HackWeaponMalfunction, there were four or five different status effects present in the game with names that were variations of JamWeapon, WeaponJamTier2, etc. and I tried them all until I found one t...

Housemarque Found Out About Returnal's $70 Price Tag At the Same Time As Everyone Else

For some gamers, it’s been an interesting challenge adapting to the $70 price point for some next-gen games, and that includes the Returnal developers at Housemarque. According to Axios , Housemarque found out that Returnal would be priced at $70 at the same time as the general public. Housemarque’s marketing director Mikael Haveri shared how internal demos of Returnal continually impressed Sony, who were funding the game. After each demo the studio showed Sony, Haveri says Housemarque "got a little bit more availability to scope it out more and to grow the game." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/05/10/how-returnal-shows-the-ps5s-power-performance-review"] These positive impressions led to the scope of Returnal expanding, and subsequently, it became one of the first games in decades to be sold for more than $60. Housemarque’s team learned about Sony’s decision to price most next-gen games $70 “around the same time as the general public” back in Sept...

New Animal Crossing Glitch Is so Fun, Fans Want It to Stay

If you've ever tried to make a relaxing little summer outdoor area in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you've likely experienced the pain of setting up an outdoor pool but not actually being able to sit in it. Despite looking cool and refreshing, pools thus far have only been for looking, not for sitting or swimming. Until now. This glitch is my favorite thing ever #AnimalCrossingNewHorizons #ACNH :] pic.twitter.com/FqrkOkNHnn — LightningLazuli (@LightningLazuli) May 14, 2021 A glitch in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that has been gaining popularity lately allows players to clip into things they normally shouldn't be able to clip into. Most notably, this includes pools and rivers. Now, many players are using it to do fun activities like host pool parties or  go for a swim in the game's rivers . Normally, it's possible to go swimming in the game without glitching anything by purchasing a wetsuit, but this only works in the oceans, and not in rivers or pools. But ...

Move Over Lady Dimitrescu, the Resident Evil Community Loves the Duke Now

Image
Lady Dimitrescu has held an unassailable position as the Resident Evil community's favourite new character since months before the game arrived . But with Resident Evil Village now in players' hands, a new fan-favourite character could be on the way to take her crown – The Duke. Resident Evil Village's unusually friendly merchant was shown a little in trailers for the game, but becomes more or less Ethan Winters' only friend throughout the game – and that's led to a huge surge in fan appreciation for him. To go some way towards showing that love, check out a Reddit post from Naillian603 , titled, "I didn't think The Duke would live up to the RE4 merchant but he proved me long. I'd go as far to say I love The Duke". In a single day, it's gone on to earn over 5,500 upvotes, becoming the 12th-most upvoted post of all time on the r/ResidentEvil subreddit. The comments below that post are similarly appreciative, singling out the Duke's voice (a...

Disco Elysium's Australian Ban Has Been Overturned

Update 05/14/2021:  The Australian Classification Review Board has reversed the ban on Disco Elysium: The Final Cut, after developer ZA/UM formally challenged the decision. It seems the tipping point for the game's ban stemmed from Dico Elysium's depiction of drug use, and the temporary benefits it offers you character. However, as reported by Kotaku Australia , the Review Board (which is separate to the Classification Board that originally refused to classify the game) has specifically made clear that Disco Elysium's depiction of drug use is shown in an ultimately negative light, such that it can now receive an R 18+ classification. "In the Review Board’s opinion," reads the Review Board's report, "while drug use linked to incentives and rewards cannot be accommodated at R 18+, this game does provide disincentives related to drug-taking behaviour, to the point where regular drug use leads to negative consequences for the player’s progression in the game....

PSA: Mass Effect Legendary Edition Won't Be On Game Pass

If you hoped EA and Xbox’s recent partnership on Game Pass meant you might be able to play Mass Effect Legendary Edition on the subscription service, we have some bad news. An EA community manager has confirmed that the only subscription service it's available on is EA Play Pro. If you’re a Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, you’ve instead automatically got a basic EA Play membership, which gets you a 10% discount on games in addition to access to the EA Play game library. Returnal's Systems Are Hindering Auto-Save, Housemarque Says

Auto-save has been a hot topic of conversation among Returnal players since its release last month. Housemarque's roguelite is excellent, but it's also very hard, and runs can last for more than two hours . That's a long time to anchor yourself to your PS5. Housemarque says it's heard the feedback from fans, but that implementing a save feature is easier said than done. "We understand that there are some systems in place that are currently a hindering factor," Housemarque marketing director Mikael Havari told Axios today. Havari's comments dampen hopes of a solution that would enable players to quit without fear of losing their progress. While other roguelites like Hades includes a quicksave solution that retains the tension of permadeath, it's clearly not so easy to implement such a feature in Returnal. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/04/29/returnal-review"] Other developers have sounded off on this subject. "I often see ...

Dave Bautista Says He Turned Down Fast and Furious to Pitch a Gears of War Movie

It’s no secret that actor Dave Bautista really , really wants to play Marcus Fenix in a Gears of War movie, but it may not be entirely clear just how bad he wants it. In an interview with Collider , Bautista says that he turned down an offer from Universal to play a role in a Fast & The Furious movie in order to promote a Gears of War adaptation. "I don’t make any pretense about it,” Bautista said. “I had a chance to get a meeting at WB, they were talking to me about this and that and I said 'hey, let’s talk about Bane.' That happened to me one other time in my career. They wanted to talk to me about Fast and the Furious, and I said 'I’m not interested, let’s talk about [Gears of War character] Marcus Fenix.’” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/09/08/dave-bautista-responds-to-ign-comments"] Bautista later added that he thinks Universal was “a little put off,” but that he didn’t regret taking his shot. “I don’t mean to offend anybody,” Baut...

Where's IGN's Mass Effect: Legendary Edition Review?

Late on Monday afternoon, a Mass Effect: Legendary Edition code arrived in my email inbox. As of this writing, that's about 65 hours ago – which would be roughly enough time to hurriedly play through two of its three large-scale RPGs  if you did literally nothing else. I decided not to do that, because by now my only opinion on their quality would be that they are not as good as sleeping, eating, or seeing my family once in a while. Put another way, I haven't had enough time with them yet to write anything close to a review. My early impressions based on the first 10 or so hours haven't revealed much about the updated original Mass Effect that you haven't seen or heard previously: it looks much better than it did 14 years ago and the writing and voice performances are still wonderful but the human facial animations (and running) don't compare to modern motion capture tech; combat holds up pretty well even though it's not as smooth as the latter games (switching...

Koei Tecmo Would Love to Make Mario and Star Wars Musou Games

Koei Tecmo has found a good deal of success of late with its licensed Dynasty Warriors spinoffs, ranging from Dragon Quest to The Legend of Zelda . More are undoubtedly coming, but what next? Koei Tecmo's president has a couple ideas. Speaking with TheGamer , Koei Tecmo President Hisashi Koinuma talked about the games he would personally love to see as a subject for a Warriors (also known as "musou") game. "Mario and Star Wars are two great series that come to mind. Unfortunately, we haven't had the opportunity to collaborate with these IP yet." Koinuma didn't elaborate on why he picked those franchises in particular, but with a little imagination, it's not hard to envision a Mario Warriors or Star Wars Jedi Warriors. Both franchise feature all the ingredients of a great musou game: distinctive settings, huge casts, and interesting settings. Total War: Warhammer 3 - The First Hands-On Preview

I've had some pretty wild ideas in my day, but probably none as ill-advised as Tsarina Katarin of Kislev deciding to invade the chaotic, unearlthly realm of the Blood God, Khorne. If you want to survive the daemonic invasion in Total War: Warhammer 3's campaign, though, you don't have much choice. Taking the fight to the Ruinous Powers won't be a simple matter of routing a few armies from the field and laying siege to a fortress, though. It will play out as a new type of Survival Battle that combines elements of tower defense and resource management in ways we've never seen in Total War before. The Slavic-inspired realm of Kislev has generally been the first to bear the brunt of Chaos throughout Warhammer's history, and their playstyle definitely reflects this. They're built around a core of rugged hybrid infantry – that is, fighty guys who can also shoot, and shooty guys who can also fight. Kossar archers can hold their own against a melee charge much bette...

Monster Hunter World Passes 17 Million Sales

Monster Hunter World continues its reign as Capcom's biggest ever game, having passed 17 million sales worldwide. As part of its highlights from the latest financial year , Capcom has revealed that Monster Hunter has passed 17 million sales across all formats, while sequel Monster Hunter Rise approaches 5 million itself, on Nintendo Switch alone. Since launching in January 2018, Monster Hunter World has continued to be a success for Capcom, no doubt in part to regular sales on both digital and physical storefronts, and the release of large expansion Monster Hunter World: Iceborne . Iceborne brought a new area for players to explore, alongside more massive monsters for them to hunt. And the strategy seems to have worked, with the game reaching 17.1 million units sold by the end of the latest fiscal year. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/01/25/monster-hunter-world-review"] Monster Hunter World was a breath of fresh air for the franchise. It was the first titl...

Walmart and Target Suspend Sales of Pokemon Cards for Safety Reasons

US retailers Walmart and Target have suspended in-store sales of Pokemon cards and other trading cards, due to safety concerns caused by a huge upsurge in demand. As reported by Bleeding Cool,  a sign spotted by a customer in New York notes that Target will no longer sell MLB, NFL, NBA and Pokemon Trading Cards as of May 14th "to ensure the safety of our guests and team members." It's clear that renewed interest in the scene is having a negative effect on in-store conduct, amid an uptick in scalping. Target is no longer selling Pokémon cards in stores “to ensure the safety of our guests and team members.” pic.twitter.com/lpV0pyw8oA — Nintendeal (@Nintendeal) May 13, 2021 That demand has led not just to bad behaviour, but real crime. Black and Red PS5 DualSense Controller Editions Revealed

Sony has revealed new Midnight Black and Cosmic Red editions of the PS5 DualSense Controller, and they'll be released in June. Nintendo Physically Can't Make Enough Switch Consoles Right Now

Nintendo is currently unable to make enough Switch consoles to meet demand, and is becoming 'more uncertain' about its production plans for the coming year amid a global semiconductor shortage. In a  Q&A with investors , company president Shuntaro Furukawa explained, "Demand for hardware continues to exceed our expectations even after the beginning of this calendar year, and production has currently not caught up to this high demand due to the tight supply and demand situation for semiconductor materials worldwide." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/how-nintendo-is-winning-next-gen-with-a-last-gen-console"] Semiconductors are used in almost all computing devices, and have seen shortages since last year. Among other things, they're used in the  chips that power all of the major consoles . Furukawa was asked about the company's goal to ship 25.5 million Switches in the new financial year amid that situation, and it sounds like a somewhat ho...

Sega Considering Reboots for Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, and More

Image
A financial results presentation has revealed that Sega is considering reboots of Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio and other dormant IP, while it begins work on a 'super game'. A results presentation to mark the end of the fiscal year was published to the SegaSammy investor relations website today . The slideshow includes a number of interesting details about the company's future plans. One slide concerns the "utilization of IP [intellectual property] assets," noting which IPs are active and dormant, and how Sega plans to remaster, remake or reboot its older series to capitalize on the "globally recognized" IPs it has in its vault. A number of old, fan favourite franchises are mentioned in the past IP groups section, including Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, NiGHTS, Space Channel 5, Panzer Dragoon and Rez. At the very least, this suggests that the company is interested in bringing some of these games back to market while strengthening its active IPs such as Yakuza, ...

'Nothing Stopping' Insomniac Making Sunset Overdrive 2 for PlayStation

Insomniac creative director Marcus Smith says there's "nothing really stopping" the studio from making a sequel to the Xbox-exclusive Sunset Overdrive for PlayStation – and that he'd love to return to the series. Speaking to GQ , Smith was asked if it was possible to make a new Sunset Overdrive now that the studio was owned by Sony. "I mean, never say never is my approach," he replied. "Obviously, we’re part of Sony now, but we own the IP and so there’s nothing really stopping us other than we have a lot of really exciting things in our future." That idea is backed up by the fact that Sony itself recently registered a trademark for Sunset Overdrive . While by no means a confirmation that the company will make a sequel, it does mean that it  could . Smith – who directed Sunset Overdrive, and is directing Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart – also made clear that he'd like to try his hand at a sequel: "I think there are a lot of stories that can b...

inXile Entertainment Hints at 'FPS RPG' for Xbox

It appears that inXile Entertainment is indeed working on an FPS RPG. The studio behind Wasteland 3 and Torment: Tides of Numenera dropped a hint to that effect in a response to an Xbox tweet asking, "What kind of game should I play next?" It then flashed a large number of genres, including "All of Them" and "Goose." "Pulled NEW + FPS + RPG," inXile Entertainment wrote in response , seemingly confirming reports from earlier this year it was making an FPS RPG . Assuming this is the case, it means that inXile Entertainment will be following in the footsteps of Obsidian, which put out The Outer Worlds in 2019 and is currently working on Avowed . inXile Entertainment's most recent stab at making a first-person RPG was in 2018, when it put out The Bard's Tale 4. IGN reviewer Leana Hafer called The Bard's Tale IV a "rousing adventure" in her review, but also said that it "shows its retro roots in some not so positive ways...
