Square Enix has shared a new look at Final Fantasy 16, this time showing off the variety of locations players will visit in the world of Valisthea. Shared as part of Square Enix's PAX East panel , the new footage shows protagonist Clive running through several newly-revealed locales. You can take a look at the new trailer for yourself below. Introducing a closer look at the world of Valisthea in Final Fantasy XVI. #FF16 pic.twitter.com/ezqxe35Co1 — FINAL FANTASY XVI (@finalfantasyxvi) March 25, 2023 This video really focuses on the expansive areas found in Valisthea, as we see a montage of Clive looking over a canyon with an enormous waterfall, riding on a Chocobo through a desert, walking through a small, grassy village, exploring a castle on a dark and stormy night, and a lot more. Final Fantasy 16 won't have an open world , instead focusing on large, segmented areas. But if there was any doubt on just how expansive the landscape would be, this trailer will likely

Dark and Darker Removed From Steam Following DMCA Takedown

The dungeon-crawling PvPvE game Dark and Darker has been delisted from Steam after developer Ironmace was served with a cease and desist order and subsequent DMCA takedown. As reported by Eurogamer , it appears Dark and Darker's developer, Ironmace, may be in hot water as players recently noticed some of the game's features abruptly stopped working, such as PvP and online co-op, followed by portions of its Steam page being scrubbed overnight including all trailers, screenshots, and store description. An official statement was posted on the Dark and Darker Discord (by way of Reddit ) stating, "To all our fans, we have recently been served a cease and desist letter and DMCA takedown by Nexon regarding Dark and Darker based on distorted claims." "We are currently working with our legal team to remedy this issue in the best manner possible. Due to the sensitive legal nature of this issue we must be careful with our statements so as to not jeopardize our positio

Stop Blowing on Your NES Carts!

In the 1980s, everyone who owned a Nintendo Entertainment System knew the only way to fix a faulty game was to eject it, hold it to your lips, and blow on it. If it didn't work after that, you simply repeated the process, with more force, until it finally worked. This was not only wrong but it was super gross, because you basically just sprayed spit particles all over your copy of Super Mario Bros. 3. On top of being unhygienic, your kid-spit also probably contributed to corrosion on your cart's contacts, and if your mouth was particularly juicy, a glob of nasty saliva could actually short some of the contacts, and that's bad. But what's the real solution to this very real problem? Well, there are two that immediately spring to mind: one of which will cost you nothing but your time, and the other will cost you like $20 maybe? Depends. Oh, it also costs time. So time plus $20 for that second one. But what's the real solution to this very real problem? Let's

Lance Reddick Has 'Performances Yet to Come' in Destiny 2

The Destiny 2 community has been mourning the passing of Lance Reddick , remembering him through tributes like flocking en masse to The Tower . And, according to Bungie, Reddick will continue to live on in more voicework for the game. Reddick, who's also known for his work in The Wire, Fringe, and the John Wick series (including this weekend's John Wick: Chapter 4), voiced Commander Zavala in Destiny 2. Bungie followed up on its initial statement about Reddick's passing in a blog post yesterday. "The tributes that have poured in for Lance have been overwhelming; from endless heartfelt messages on social media to impromptu gatherings of respect in Zavala’s corner of the Tower, overlooking the Last City," the blog read, in part. "As an actor, musician, gamer, and family man, the passion Lance brought to the things he loved was reflected in the eyes and hearts of all who loved him. For now, we will honor his presence through his performances yet to come in

Lawsuit Over Fatal Call of Duty Swatting Incident Settled for $5 Million

The Wichita City Council in Kansas has reached a $5 million settlement in a lawsuit filed by the family of Andrew Finch, who was killed by police in the first fatal swatting incident in the U.S. over an online Call of Duty match. According to The Wichita Eagle , city officials approved the settlement on Tuesday in a five-year lawsuit against Wichita police detective Justin Rapp, who killed 28-year-old Finch despite him being unarmed. The city voted 6-1 in favor of the lawsuit. The swatting incident stemmed from an argument between Casey Viner and Shane Gaskill during an online match in Call of Duty: WWII in December 2017. Viner made a hoax call to the police, and Gaskill gave a false address to Tyler Barriss, a serial swatter who ultimately made a false report of a hostage situation and a murder. The SWAT then surrounded Finch's house, and when Finch, who was unaware of the situation, stepped outside to see what was going on, Rapp immediately shot Finch in the chest from 40 ya

How to Buy These 3DS and Wii U Games Before They're Gone Forever

Twelve Years after the doors of the 3DS and Wii U eShop opened, they are sadly closing for good. Nintendo has announced that on March 27th, 2023, it will no longer be possible to purchase games digitally from that generation of consoles. But for months now, it’s been impossible to buy anything ever since they revoked the ability to directly add funds to your account, so we shouldn’t care about this announcement, right? Well, turns out there’s a completely valid way Nintendo has allowed you to still add funds to your account, and it’s super simple to do. So here is how you can still buy 3DS and Wii U games before they are gone forever–plus some game recommendations in case you don’t know what to get. How to Still Buy Games on 3DS and Wii U. Life and Death of the Mystical Ninja

Image
Welcome back to Forgotten Gems , my column about games that have faded but shouldn’t be forgotten. Last time, I took at a look at the unexpected return of one of Square’s most unique 16-bit RPGs, Live a Live . While there may be no happy ending this time, hopefully you’ll still enjoy this look back at an entire game series that almost all but faded from public discourse: Goemon, Konami’s Mystical Ninja. Namco has Pac-Man. SEGA’s got Sonic. Nintendo has Mario. Konami’s got… Frogger? Twinbee? The Parodius Octopus? It’s honestly a bit surprising that one of the most prolific game developers of the ‘80s took so long to develop a stable of recognizable characters; let alone a core company mascot. Before it became known for the exploits of the Belmonts and Solid Snake, Konami dazzled us more with clever concepts like Time Pilot, Gyruss, and Track & Field, as well as competent game adaptations of animated shows like TMNT or the Simpsons. Enter the Ninja But the roots for Konami’s o

Every PS5 Model Is Available on Amazon Right Now

For those who have been waiting to pick up a PlayStation 5, we have good news: every version of the console is now available on Amazon, without requiring invitation or inflated, third-party seller prices. This includes the disc edition, the digital edition, and both the God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West bundles (which also come in disc and digital editions). Below, you can see a breakdown of each available console on Amazon's website. PlayStation 5 Consoles Available on Amazon It was only very recently that it became possible for people to buy a PlayStation 5 (and Xbox Series X, for that matter) without the panic of stock immediately running out . Sony Interactive Entertainment president Jim Ryan said at the start of this year that "everyone who wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one at retailer globally,” now. This was revealed at Sony's CES tech conference, where the company also boasted how they've now surpassed more than 30 million

8 Best PS5 SSDs For 2023

Between Final Fantasy XVI , Resident Evil 4 Remake , and Spider-Man 2 , the PS5 is about to get a lot of good games. If you want to keep them around for easy access, you’ll want an SSD to slot into your PS5. After all, the console comes with less than a terabyte of storage space, which is hardly enough to hold your favorite games, let alone record video clips, take screenshots, and save other data. The good news is upgrading your PS5’s storage has never been easier, thanks to the secondary M.2 SSD slot that lets you add a second SSD, similar to a gaming PC . It's something you should definitely consider now that easier than ever to get a PS5 console. Best PS5 SSD Deals Now, the best PS5 SSDs are a big step above the days of using a slow external hard drive, so your secondary drive will operate as fast as, if not faster, than the PS5's primary storage. Loads and saves are quick, and transferring games takes mere moments. Of course, you need to buy a compatible SSD tha

Redfall Developer Is Working on Reversing Always-Online Requirement

Arkane Austin has said that it is working on a fix that will reverse Redfall’s always-online requirement, an aspect that was met with backlash when first announced. In an interview with Eurogamer , game director Harvey Smith said, “We listen. And we have already started work to address this in the future. We have to do some things like encrypt your save games and do a bunch of UI work to support it. And so we are looking into - I'm not supposed to promise anything - but we're looking into and working actively toward fixing that in the future.” Smith also went into more detail about why Redfall was designed as an always-online experience from the start. It wasn’t to sell microtransactions from an in-game store, as the game doesn’t even have one (DLC is planned, including guns and costume bundles, but they will be sold via the Xbox store). Instead, the decision behind requiring an online connection was to help Arkane understand how people were playing Redfall and when they w

Redfall Hands-On Preview

In a game all about vampire slaying it’s pretty important that killing your blood-feasting foes feels like an event in and of itself. That’s exactly what Arkane Austin has done with Redfall; much like how assassination-sim Dishonored had gloriously bloody backstab animations, Redfall revels in the act of plunging a wooden stake through a vampire’s heart. There’s weight in the blow as you knock your foe backwards and slam them into the floor, pushing a boot into a jaw that quickly evaporates into fiery dust. Yeah, killing vampires in Redfall feels good. At a recent hands-on event I played around 90 minutes of Redfall, which gave me the first taste of something akin to a Far Cry game made by Stephen King. It’s an open-world shooter set in modern day Massachusetts, filled with gothic small-town vibes, fanged horrors, and a buffet of activity types. That means Prey and Dishonored developer Arkane Austin is operating in uncharted territory. Redfall is very different to the studio’s othe
