Blizzard Officially Ending Heroes of the Storm Content Development

Blizzard Entertainment is officially ending new content development for its MOBA Heroes of the Storm and will instead focus solely on keeping the game running smoothly with seasonal rolls, hero rotations, bug fixes, balance updates, and more. Blizzard shared the news in a blog alongside reminding fans that Heroes of the Storm was first released seven years ago. Blizzard took the time to thank the Heroes community and promises to those who still wish to play that it is "committed to making sure that you can continue to enjoy your adventures through the Nexus." Unfortunately, this means there won't be any new content and the game will enter a phase that is shared by games like StarCraft and StarCraft 2. "Moving forward we will support Heroes in a manner similar to our other longstanding games, StarCraft and StarCraft II," Blizzard wrote. "In the future, we’ll continue seasonal rolls and hero rotations, and while the in-game shop will remain operational

Kojima Productions Threatens Legal Action Against Those Who Claim Hideo Kojima Was Linked to Shinzo Abe Assassination

Following a racist joke that linked Hideo Kojima to the assassination of Japan's longest-serving Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Kojima Productions has threatened legal action against those who contribute to the "spread of fake news and rumors that convey false information." Kojima Productions tweeted out its statement earlier today, July 9, saying that it "strongly condemns the spread of fake news and rumors that convey false information. We do not tolerate such libel and will consider taking legal action in some cases." In a now deleted tweet, French far-right politician Damien Rieu accused the far-left of murdering Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe and used photos of game developer Hideo Kojima instead of pictures of the current suspect Tetsuya Yamagami pic.twitter.com/2zpmL5kVnD — Nox Dawn 🐸 (@NoxDawn) July 8, 2022 As reported by PC Gamer, the reason for this statement stemmed from a racist joke that seemingly began on 4Chan (shocking, I know) that sa

Redfall Co-Creative Director Talks Mixing Story With Co-op, Player Choice, and More

Arkane’s games offer a special kind of tactical agency, and with Redfall, Arkane Austin’s Studio Director and Redfall Co-Creative Director Harvey Smith says that'll remain true. "Solo is very much a classic Arkane experience," he promised – but so is its four-player co-op multiplayer mode, which is faster paced and offers a different kind of challenge as the dangers escalate. Redfall follows four characters as they fight for their lives after an experiment gone wrong results in a swarm of vampires in the eponymous Massachusetts town. The sun is blocked out and a water wall surrounds the island, seemingly preventing anyone from leaving. Of course, knowing the story is just the beginning. From confirming Redfall will only have one ending to detailing some important customization mechanics and its plan for a lasting endgame, Smith shared plenty of new information about Arkane's 2023 vampire game. Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Leviathan Summon Was Included as a Reference to the Original Game's Demo

The Leviathan summon in Final Fantasy 7 Remake was included specifically as a reference to the original game's demo. In a Square Enix blog post , Remake's co-director Naoki Hamaguchi explained the logic behind why each specific summon made an appearance in the game. "At an early stage of development we looked over the line-up of summons in the original FFVII and decided to go with Ifrit, Chocobo and Moogle, Shiva, Fat Chocobo, Leviathan and Bahamut, for a roster of six," Hamaguchi said. "The reason Leviathan was included is because he was featured in the original FFVII demo, so I personally wanted him in the first Remake too." Hamaguchi went on to explain that the developers had to be pretty certain before development began which summons they were going to include, as it takes a lot of work to even create one. "It costs a lot of development resources to create a summon, so there weren't any that we planned for but discarded. We strived to be

PlayStation Plus Premium: Backwards Compatibility Performance Review

Image
Sony announced earlier this year that its PlayStation Plus subscription service and PlayStation Now streaming service would be merging into a single service . The new service, also called PlayStation Plus, has three subscription tiers: Essentials, Extra, and Premium. Essentials is predominantly the same as the older version of PlayStation Plus, with online multiplayer access, free monthly games, online cloud saves, and store discounts. Extra encompasses all these features but adds a curated catalog of nearly 400 PS4 and PS5 games you can download and play on your local console. Premium is what we’re looking at today, which includes the previous two tiers as well as an additional catalog of PS3 games available via cloud streaming, PS2, PS1, and PSP games available for stream or download, and time-limited game trials. Considering the PlayStation’s extensive collection of historic games, it’s impressive to see games from all prior PlayStation generations available here to play. But no

Some Hearthstone Players Have Been Offered 150 Free Booster Packs to Come Back to the Game

Some Hearthstone players have been offered 150 free booster packs - with a value of $180 - to return to Blizzard's Warcraft-themed card game. As reported by PC Gamer , various lapsed Hearthstone players have shared that they had been offered huge bundles of cards if they started playing again. The biggest offer was for 75 Standard Packs and 75 Voyage to the Sunken City Packs, which would otherwise cost players at least $179.96. The offer is "common industry practice," according to Blizzard. "We run many different limited and targeted tests such as this to better determine what drives former, new or current players' interest, which is a common industry practice," a spokesperson told PC Gamer. "This was a region-specific test for Hearthstone in the UK and France for a subset of relevant players who were first randomly sorted into groups before being assigned a corresponding offer between 20 and 150 packs." Nevertheless, the test has caused so

Pokémon Puzzle League is Coming to Nintendo Switch Online Next Week

Pokémon Puzzle League will become the 17th Nintendo 64 game available on Switch when it arrives on July 15. Announced on Nintendo's YouTube channel , players can enjoy the classic puzzle game steeped in Pokémon nostalgia as part of the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack – which costs $49.99 and is the only way to play N64 games on the console. Re-join the gang of Ash, Misty, Brock, and Pikachu as they head to Puzzle Village and take part in a whole new type of Pokémon battle. Though the puzzle format is fairly common now, Pokémon Puzzle League took inspiration from NES title Panel de Pon where players must align blocks of the same colour in order to gain points. The game recreates not only the look of the classic Pokémon anime, however, but also the different encounters Ash has with other Pokémon trainers. Players will take on gym leaders such as Lt. Surge and even Team Rocket. IGN named it among the ten best Pokémon games and in our 8/10 review said we "highly rec

Black Mesa Classic Is a Demake Of The Original Half-Life 1 Remake

Black Mesa , the Half-Life 1 remake that brought the game to the updated Source engine and added new content, is now being remade again... in the original Half-Life 1 engine. As reported by PC Gamer , a group of modders are currently working on a demake of the remake called Black Mesa Classic, which will include Half-Life 1, in the original GoldSrc engine, but with the extra content and improved features added in Black Mesa. The mod has actually been in development since 2019 but a playable demo was released earlier this week on the game's ModDB page . It was quickly removed due to "a last minute issue" but the team has promised it will be back up soon. "This is a GoldSrc project aimed to remake Black Mesa: Source with Half-Life assets on PC, with a classic visual style and features that push the limits of what's possible within the GoldSrc engine, including detailed textures and a more realistic environment," the page said. "Our main vision for

Murder at Castle Nathria - Hearthstone Card Reveal!

The next Hearthstone set is hitting the game on August 2nd (August 3 in ANZ), and will add 135 new cards, not to mention an air of mystery. With a central whodunnit, complete with a character called Murloc Holmes on the case, Murder at Castle Nathria is shaping up to be a lot of fun. In addition to ten legendary “suspects” (one for each class), it introduces a new card type: locations. Location cards are played to the board and can then be activated a set number of times, with a turn off between each activation. It’s all very Cluedo-esque. Alongside this is a new keyword: infuse. Cards with infuse are powered up when a certain number of friendly minions die while they’re in hand. You can see examples of all these new additions in the gallery below. Today we’re revealing a brand new Warrior legendary card from Murder at Castle Nathria and it’s unlike anything Hearthstone has ever seen before.
