Ubisoft Forward September 2022: Everything Announced

A brand-new Ubisoft Forward has finally arrived and it promises, alongside reveals from Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope and Skull and Bones, a glimpse into the future of Assassin's Creed. We will be gathering each announcement, trailer, and gameplay video from the latest Ubisoft Forward here, and we will be updating this article throughout the show! Assassin’s Creed Infinity Officially Revealed with Two New Games, and One Is Set in Feudal Japan Ubisoft has officially revealed Assassin’s Creed Infinity, a new platform and hub that will serve as the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Furthermore, Ubisoft shared that the first two games for the platform - one that will follow the life of a Shinobi in feudal Japan, and another helmed by Watch Dogs: Legion director Clint Hocking. Assassin’s Creed Infinity is not a game itself, but a place where players will explore and jump into future entries, beginning with the feudal Japan game Assassin’s Creed Codename Red. While not m

Mario + Rabbids Spark of Hope Will Have Three DLCs, One Focused on Rayman

Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope is, like its predecessor, getting post-launch content, which will include three DLC packs including one focused on Rayman. Revealed at Ubisoft Forward 2022 , creative director Davide Soliani showed new gameplay featuring one of the main game's quests before confirming that players seeking more content following Sparks of Hope's launch will receive just that. "This cosmic journey will not stop at launch," said Soliani. "We have so many wild ideas that we want to explore in the coming year." Very little else was said about the DLC, with Soliani admitting that it is a bit too early to reveal anything major, but he did tease that the third expansion will be focused on and feature Rayman as a playable character. The mission featured during Ubisoft Forward showed off Mario and the gang fighting an angry Wiggler aboard a train, using a series of different special attacks and abilities to take down the big beastie. Sparks of

What Are You Hoping to See in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2?

The Legend of Zelda series recently celebrated its 35th anniversary, and we eagerly anticipate the sequel to Breath of the Wild. So far, we've only gotten a few quick looks into what we can expect to experience when it releases next spring. Breath of the Wild tops our list of the Top 100 Video Games of All Time for a reason. It gave us a vast open world filled to the brim with shrines and secrets to uncover and incredible new tools to use, like the Sheikah Slate, and it enabled creative solutions to many of the puzzles in the game. However, some weren't fans of the lack of traditional dungeons, the weapon durability system, and the lack of combining music with gameplay which has been a prominent feature in previous entries in the series. With that in mind, today's topic is what you hope to see included in the Breath of the Wild sequel. Can the durability system be redeemed by being updated? Should it double down on the idea of shrines or go back to the traditional du

Disney Dreamlight Valley Early Access Review

Where other life sims can sometimes struggle to make interesting use of the characters that occupy their towns, developer Gameloft bursts onto the scene shirtless and flexing its muscles like Maui with Disney Dreamlight Valley. Even in its unfinished early access state, this is an irresistible blend of city planning from the likes of Animal Crossing with quests and a progression system more commonly seen in RPGs. All of that is wrapped inside a Disney theme with an all-star cast of adored characters that make it ridiculously hard to put down. Some tedious quests, copious bugs, and an incomplete final act mean it certainly warrants the early access label at the moment, but it’s already all too easy to lose dozens of hours in this magical simulation. Disney Dreamlight Valley’s cozy concept has you rebuilding a village, befriending iconic characters, and getting sorta creeped out by the look in Mickey Mouse’s eyes. You’ll learn how to fish from Goofy and secretly hope he’s your real f

What Should PlayStation Do After Call of Duty Is Gone?

There have been a lot of conversations recently over the future of the Call of Duty franchise , and for good reason, as it's regularly one of the best-selling games every year. With Microsoft's acquisition of Activision and the recent discussions of possible exclusivity for Call of Duty in the future, we thought it would be a good time to ask -- what should Playstation do after Call of Duty is gone? Are you a fan of Call of Duty who primarily plays it on Playstation? If so, how do you feel about the possibility of needing to swap consoles to continue playing it? Do you think Playstation and Xbox will reach some compromise to keep Call of Duty on both consoles? Do you think Call of Duty has a chance at still being as profitable if it becomes exclusive? What FPS franchises do you think can fill the void on Playstation if Call of Duty isn't there to compete with? Let us know in the comments. Jada Griffin is IGN's Community Lead. Amy Hennig's Untitled Black Panther Captain America Game Won't Be Co-Op

Amy Hennig’s untitled Marvel game is being described as a team-up between Captain America and heroes from Wakanda, most prominently Black Panther. But if you’re thinking of teaming up with a friend to fight the Nazis, you’ll have to choose another game as this title will not be co-op. When IGN asked Hennig in an interview for the untitled Marvel game if this was a co-op title, the director responded, “Narratively yes, gameplay mechanics-wise no.” While the title will indeed see Captain America and Black Panther (Azzuri, T’challa’s grandfather), gameplay wise don’t expect to team up with your friend in local or online. “We experienced something partly intentionally partly by happy accident on Uncharted that for people playing our game it was a shared living room experience… even if their hand wasn’t on the controller,” Hennig responded. The goal for this title is to capture that same kind of shared living room experience even if players aren’t actively playing together. Given tha

Tron Identity Is a Detective Game Set Thousands of Years After Tron: Legacy

Following today's announcement of upcoming new Tron game Tron Identity, Bithell Games head Mike Bithell and Disney producer Heidi Vargas have shared a handful of details on what to expect from it, including its genre and setting: it's a detective game set years after Tron: Legacy. Sitting down with IGN for an exclusive interview, Bithell explained that Identity takes place so far in the future that characters from the other Tron stories are legends that have shaped the history of Identity's setting, and are loved and hated for their contributions. It takes place in a secondary Grid created by Flynn for the ISOs to inhabit after promising he'd return, though as we know, he never did. We get a look at what society and culture has evolved since then, through the eyes of a detective named Query assigned to solve a robbery and the mystery that surrounds it. We also got a look at a few other characters, including Proxy, who is a program that has started to live outside

NBA 2K23 Review in Progress

Just minutes into my first game in NBA 2K23, I noticed something I hadn’t seen in my hundreds (if not thousands) of hours across the NBA 2K franchise: the ball bounced on both sides of the rim, popped out, and both teams spent the next five seconds battling for a loose ball. In my second or third game, I was given a foul for hanging on the rim too long – an error I made while messing with the new dunk controls. On their own, these obviously don’t mean a whole lot; taken together, though, they begin to paint a picture of NBA 2K23 ’ s focus on detail. There is a love for the game of basketball that is evident by these subtle flourishes, which makes it all the more lamentable that it’s mired with a lot of the usual problems reviews have complained about for many years now. Microtransactions still lie in wait around every corner, and the AI, while admittedly improved, still doesn’t quite emulate the human elegance that is so important to the look and feel of a basketball game. As a result

Tron Identity, a New Detective Mystery Game, Officially Announced

Disney announced a new game from Bithell Games set in the Tron Identity. While the brief teaser didn't offer much information, the music and neon glow of the Light Discs evokes the look of 2010's Tron Legacy. You can check out the teaser (and thumping music) below. In a press release, Tron Identity is described as a visual novel adventure that follows Query, a detective program that must solve 'an unprecedented crime' in The Grid. Bithell Games is best known for the indie hit Thomas Was Alone but has gone on to make unique takes on established IP. Games like John Wick Hex, which was an action strategy game set in the John Wick universe. While details for Tron Identity are sparse, we can expect more info before the game is released on Steam in 2023. Be sure to check out our interview with Mike Bithell about Tron Identity after the livestream. And for everything else, IGN has a full round-up of new games and announcements from the Marvel and Disney games showcase

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R Review

Since its re-emergence in the anime scene in 2012, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has had an upsurge in popularity thanks to its exuberant characters, vibrant worldbuilding, and infinitely memeable moments. In 2013, developer CyberConnect 2 and Bandai Namco released a fighting game based on the long-running manga series to little fanfare. Almost a decade later, a remastered and upgraded version called JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R looks to make a splash in a fighting game genre that’s become more exciting and crowded in recent years. All Star Battle R comes equipped with some bold new characters, smart updates to the combat system, and a disappointing replacement for the original’s story mode. So in some ways, it succeeds as a celebration of the 35-year history of one of the most exuberant and vibrant anime and manga series out there, but while it remains an entertaining fighting game, its online components still feel archaic in the modern era. All Star Battle R’s impressive

Ridgeline Games, Marcus Lehto's New Studio, Will Develop Battlefield Narrative Campaign

New studio Ridgeline Games, which is led by Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto, has been established to create a new narrative campaign set in the Battlefield universe, according to a press release from Electronic Arts. Electronic Arts has also confirmed that creative director Lars Gustavsson, who's been with the franchise since its very first game, will be leaving the company to pursue other opportunities, but it is not clear if he'll be involved with this new narrative campaign. "Lars has dedicated a substantial portion of his life to Battlefield and is proud to have helped shape the franchise into what it is today," the release reads. "He is excited to pass the baton to the next generation of Battlefield creators at DICE, Ripple Effect, Industrial Toys, and Ridgeline Games." According to the release, the company is “composed of industry veterans from around the world,” which will be extremely important because according to them, they’ll be “instrumental to

Classic Wolfenstein Game Getting Multiplayer Revival Via New Official Servers

Bethesda announced that it has set up dedicated online servers for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. These official servers are meant to cater to players who want a more traditional experience, which means they include only the six original maps and no community mods. “We’re excited to announce that we’ve deployed official dedicated servers for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory,” Bethesda says on its website . “Though the community has hosted – and continues to host – servers with a variety of mods and custom maps that we highly recommend, we also understand that many players are looking for a more nostalgic experience.” We’re excited to announce that we’ve deployed official dedicated servers for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, running the vanilla ruleset with all six original maps and no mods! A Plague Tale: Requiem - Improving All The Right Ways - The Final Preview

If you’ve completed A Plague Tale: Innocence, you know that Amicia and Hugo have been through a lot together. And from what I’ve seen of the sequel so far, A Plague Tale: Requiem has solidified their bond, but they are still looking to cure Hugo completely. Unfortunately, after the first game's happyish ending, it would seem that trouble has caught up with the pair yet again and you’ll need to use every tool in your arsenal to get out alive. At least now that kit includes the full gamut of abilities from the first game at their disposal, with a few new tricks and some friends who are more than willing to offer a hand. My preview took me through Chapter 6, which showcased Amicia’s newfound viciousness, and Hugo’s rat empowerment ratcheted up to 11. Hugo can now see through walls and control rats on a whim, but if he gets too carried away, a flood of the vermin will put him and his sister at risk. As we’ve already previewed this section, I’ll just briefly say that I am very impre

Company of Heroes 3: A Look at the Mission Variety – IGN First

Over the course of Company of Heroes 3's expansive, open-ended Italian campaign, you'll fight your fair share of classic RTS battles. Quite a lot of them, probably. But to add some variety, there are also several less conventional encounters you can come across with their own rules and objectives, so you have to stay on your toes. From a desperate rescue mission to shadowy commando operations, it will take ingenuity and adaptability to break the Axis lines in the push toward Rome. We got to try out just a few of these unorthodox scenarios. They say the best way to stop a snake is to cut off the head. I don't know who "they" are, nor have I actually tested this. I'd rather leave snakes alone, you know? But it can definitely be true when fighting Nazis, which brought us to one of my favorite Company of Heroes 3 missions so far: The Gardening Job. This nighttime infiltration is a stealthy special forces assignment, giving you a small number of very specialized

Macabre Museum Announced

Startup developer Different Monster has announced Macabre Museum, a new four-player time-traveling co-op horror adventure game for PC. No release date has been given as of yet. “We’ve been really inspired by nostalgic movies and TV shows, and that feeling you get when walking around a museum and just imagining what would happen if the mummy in the display case suddenly woke up!” Different Monster’s Creative Director said. Expect puzzle-solving plus plenty of combat with terrifying monsters as you travel from Ancient Egypt to Historic Mesoamerica and other museum-relevant time periods. Take a look at the game's first trailer above and its first screenshots in the gallery below. IGN will have more on Macabre Museum as its development progresses. If you're interested you can wishlist the game on Steam .
