James Cameron Is 'Very Excited' by What Ubisoft Is Doing With the Avatar Game

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has already impressed filmmaker James Cameron. During an interview with IGN, the Avatar director explained that he’s "very excited" by Frontier of Pandora and how it fits into the Avatar universe. “We’re very excited about what Ubisoft is doing with their game authoring,” he said. “I don’t tell them what to do — they know their world, their business, their market. We just keep a close eye that they don’t do anything that’s not canonical in terms of Na’vi culture and what the RDA is doing on Pandora and all that sort of thing.” Cameron’s plan is to create a persistent Avatar universe, and the game fits perfectly into that idea: “Ubisoft on their side are likely to push back a little bit and I haven’t drilled down on exactly what the deal is with that but what we’re looking for now is to create a persistent, visitable world with a cadence of sequels,” he explained. “If we’re successful we’ll go ahead and we’ll have a movie every two years o

Suikoden 1 and 2: Konami's Cult Classic RPGs are Being Remastered

Suikoden 1 and 2, the beloved Konami RPGs, will return as HD remasters for PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and Switch in 2023. Announced at Tokyo Game Show 2022, the two games will be part of a single collection titled (deep breath) Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars. The collection definitely appears to sit somewhere between a remaster and a remake, with major improvements made to looks, new character drawings included, and game improvements such as auto-battling and more. You can check out an exclusive clip of the Neclord boss battle from the Suikoden 2 remaster below: According to Konami, these are the headline changes in the collection: Suikoden Remaster Collection Improvements Graphical Improvements Pixel sprites and environment art enhanced with new screen effects including lighting, clouds, and shadow animations Flickering flames, smoldering smoke, the movement of leaves and insects, all add up to a lively in-game atmosphere! Street Fighter 6: Hands-On TGS Preview

As what I’d consider the gold standard in fighting games, Street Fighter is never shy about reinventing itself, and with upcoming Street Fighter 6, Capcom is poised to do so once again. By combining many elements tried out in previous iterations, like Parry from Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, Focus Attacks from Street Fighter IV, and V-Skills from Street Fighter V, this fresh take on the popular brawler places the Drive System front-and-center to fantastic effect. Managing the Drive Gauge’s energy bar and making deadly use of all the powerful stunts it afforded me became as important to success as monitoring my health bar. That game of calculated risks and timely reversals stuck out as a killer feature that I could see myself losing countless hours trying to master. At the heart of Street Fighter 6’s intricate game of blitzkrieg chess is the aforementioned Drive System, which let me use powerful moves by expending energy in a finite bar called the Drive Gauge. With the right comman

See a New Card From the Magic: The Gathering and Warhammer 40,000 Crossover!

On October 7, two geek culture titans - Magic: The Gathering and Warhammer 40,000 - are coming together in a hugely exciting collaboration . It will see the characters, lore and world of Games Workshop's epic Warhammer 40,000 universe appearing in the form of playable cards that utilise Magic: The Gathering's gameplay architecture. A part of the "Universes Beyond" initiative, it's a brilliant idea to bring gritty sci-fi into Magic's normally more fantasy-oriented foundation, and to do so with a property as renowned for its incredible art as Magic itself. The crossover will be released in the form of four Commander decks, each led by a character capable of martialling the factions under their control. You can see art for the Commander of each deck in the slideshow below. Today we have a card to reveal from the Forces of the Imperium deck. Introducing, Sanguinary Priest: This card very much fits into the deck's overall strategy. According to Seni

Now That You’ve Played It, Do You Consider The Last of Us Part 1 Remake Essential?

The Last of Us Part 1 Remake has been out for a while now. While there are noticeable improvements to the graphics, animations, and accessibility, many of the other elements aren't as apparent. The accessibility alone is enough for the remake to exist as it extends the game's availability to entirely new audiences. However, all the new additions and improvements to the animations, enemy AI, and more make this the definitive version for hardcore fans and those finally playing it for the first time. Although this is the game's definitive version, I don't know if it's something I could recommend to someone who isn't the most hardcore of fans or a newcomer to the series. It still holds up pretty well, and it's relatively easy for anyone to play the PS4 remastered version, unlike Demon Souls, which was in dire need of a remake before it got the Bluepoint remake treatment. My question to everyone is -- now that you've played it, do you consider it essential

The Best Video Game Remakes of All Time

Image
Movies and TV shows get remade all the time, but there’s something extra special about a video game remake. Being able to revisit a beloved video game of yesteryear with modern revamped graphics and mechanics is always exciting, especially because it often introduces classic series to brand new audiences. To that end, here are our picks for the top 10 remakes of all time. 10. Shadow of the Colossus Shadow of the Colossus was a landmark achievement when it hit the PS2 in 2005. Team ICO built a lonely, desolate, deeply affecting world on some incredibly limited hardware, and while the core game stands the test of time, its technical performance and visual clarity were clearly held back. Fast-forward 13 years and Bluepoint Games, which previously remastered both ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, got its hands on the remake and completely modernized it. With a much steadier framerate, gorgeous graphics, and a commitment to keeping the soul of the original intact, Bluepoint hit it ou

Ashfall Showcase 2022: How to Watch and What to Expect

Ashfall is an upcoming adventure shooter MMORPG from Legendary Star Studio that is set in a stylized post-apocalypse wasteland that tasks player to leave their Vault in the aftermath of a nuclear war to search out the Core of Creation, which may be the only hope of ensuring the survival of the human race. One Piece Odyssey Will Arrive in January 2023

One Piece Odyssey will be released in the west on January 13, 2023 - slightly later than its planned 2022 release. Announced during a Tokyo Game Show showcase, the game will arrive on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC on January 13. Originally, the game was scheduled to arrive this year. Producer Katsuaki Tsuzuki (through translator), explained: "Before, we were planning to launch this by the end of 2022. However, in order to create an adventure where users can 'touch the world of One Piece,' we decided to have more time to make further development." The showcase showed off a chunk of the JRPG in action, shoing off its mixture of 3D environments and semi-cel shaded characters, combat, quests, and more. DLC was also introduced, including alternate costumes for major characters. One Piece Odyssey features an original story from Eiichiro Oda, author of the One Piece manga, and will see the Straw Hats transported to a mysterious island. we've called the JRPG genre a p

Deathloop Coming to Xbox, New Update Will Extend the Ending and More

Microsoft has announced that Deathloop, last year's PlayStation 5 console exclusive, is finally coming to Xbox Series X and S. Furthermore, it will come with a collection of upgrades that include a newly extended ending. Announced as part of the Xbox Tokyo Games Show stream, Deathloop will be available on Xbox Series X/S and via Game Pass on September 20, with pre-loading available now. While it is the same game released on PlayStation 5 last year, it comes complete with all the improvements made since it launched, including a photo mode and a suite of accessibility options. The big news, though, is that a free 'Golden Loop update' has been added, which includes a new weapon, new enemy types, new upgrades, cross-platform matchmaking for PvP, and a newly extended ending. These are all cool additions, but it's that ending that will be of interest to many: the abrupt conclusion to the story was one of the minor criticisms in our otherwise glowing review . If you

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - 18 Things to Pay Attention to in the New Trailer

The sequel to Breath of the Wild is inching ever closer and thanks to the newest trailer we now know a whole lot more. We know it’s officially called The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, we know it’s coming out on May 12, 2023, and we’ve been given some intriguing hints about the game’s story, world and mechanics. Here are 18 things we think are worth calling out in the new trailer . 1) Link Has Glowing Vials in Place of the Sheikah Slate As Link runs towards the ledge of a floating island, you can see his right arm has already been altered like in previous trailers. But what’s new is that he’s carrying something on his belt in place of the Sheikah Slate: a small set of vials, half of which are filled with a green glowing light. This object is extremely reminiscent of the Vessel of Light that Link and Midna used to collect Tears of Light in Twilight Princess, which would fit the new title nicely, though you do also collect tears in Skyward Sword. It could also just be a new t

Yakuza Developer Explains Why It's Probably Not Coming to Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch is one of the most popular consoles in the world, and it’s especially dominant in Japan — home of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s Yakuza series. But don’t expect to see the series on Nintendo’s platform any time soon. Speaking with IGN as part of a roundtable interview, RGG Studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama was blunt in his assessment of the franchise’s prospects on the Switch. “First of all, whether our games will run on the Switch is probably the first question. The second is, when people are doing things that they don't want to do, and you lose the morale and urge to do it,” Yokoyama said in response to a question from GameSpot, which first reported the story . “And when it comes to the Switch, it’s kind of a system for a younger audience…it's how we picture it in Japan anyway, for kids. So do we want to put a title, where we're going and picking a fight with the world, and doing all this Yakuza stuff, on a Switch? Will people be happy if we do that? And we&

Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2022: How to Watch Microsoft's Stream

It's safe to say 2022 has been a solid year for gamers when it comes to exciting events and conventions, from Gamescom to Summer Game Fest and everything in-between from Summer of Gaming . If you haven't heard yet, event "season" is still not over— Tokyo Game Show is back, baby! As part of this major gaming event, Xbox will be carrying its own livestream. Although we've seen so much already from Microsoft this year, including the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase (and Extended Showcase) back in June, with a breakdown of Starfall, a long look at Forza Motorsport, and extended Redfall gameplay; we can't wait to see what's coming next. When is the Xbox TGS Stream? The Xbox Stream at Tokyo Game Show takes place Thursday, September 15th, at 2:00am PDT. DDOS Attack Takes Major Activision Blizzard Games Offline for Hours

A DDOS attack against Activision Blizzard brought down the company's PC servers for hours, leaving many users unable to play games including Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and Overwatch. Activision Blizzard first acknowledged the issue in a tweet at 12:15am Pacific on September 14, saying it was investigating an issue affecting its authentication servers that was causing slow or failed login attempts for players. Around 40 minutes later, however, Activision Blizzard confirmed that its PC servers were down as a result of a DDOS attack. "We continue to actively monitor an ongoing DDOS attack which is affecting latency/connections to our games," it said in a follow-up tweet (below). Yakuza 8 Will Feature a Return for Series Hero Kazuma Kiryu, Out in 2024

Yakuza 8, now officially titled Like a Dragon 8, will be released in early 2024 and will unexpectedly feature a return for original series hero Kazuma Kiryu. Announced during a stream from developer RGG Studio , the game will also see the return of Yakuza: Like a Dragon heroes Ichiban Kasuga, Koichi Adachi, and Yu Nanba. We saw a teaser trailer featuring the Kasuga and Kiryu (who has a new, grey haircut) wandering through the fictional Kamurocho. The game will be released for PS4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Steam. Onstage, the game's producer and two voice actors appeared to tease the game, saying that this would be the story of both characters, both of whom will lead a party. It appears to be an RPG again, in the vein of Yakuza 7: Like a Dragon. The team also said it will be "the largest game to date" in the series. Kiryu will apparently also introduce a new fighting style in the game. As for why Kiryu is returning, the team was coy, but they said the game&#
