Marvel Snap Creator Responds to Single-Player Mode Possibilities

Ben Brode, the creator of Marvel Snap and co-founder of developer Second Dinner, has opened up about the possibilities of single-player modes for the multiplayer-focused card game. Speaking to IGN's Simon Cardy, Brode spoke on the team's thoughts toward PvE or similar single-player modes, saying so much of what makes Marvel Snap special revolves around multiplayer. "I don't know. The game is very different than other card games, right? And so a lot of the fun of the game is the mind games, and trying to kind of imagine what your opponent might do next," Brode said. "I don't know. I guess I would say we haven't done enough thinking about what that might look like to know for sure whether or not we'd be able to do something that'd be really fun in that space. "I do think there's a lot of room for new modes. We have a lot of cool ideas for new game modes that are multiplayer modes, but I don't know about single-player." N

Vampire Survivors 1.0 Review

Sometimes the simplest, silliest games sink their hooks into me and don’t let go even while bigger, flashier options cry out for my attention – and then they reveal themselves to be not quite so simple after all, exposing layer upon layer of challenges, secrets, and even more silliness. That was what happened with Vampire Survivors, which despite looking very much like hundreds of other tiny pixel-art games on Steam that come and go every day, enthralled me and countless others nearly a year ago when it came out in early access and has kept me coming back ever since. What’s novel about it is that it’s basically a twin-stick shooter that does away with one of said sticks and all other buttons, leaving you to worry exclusively about positioning yourself while it takes care of firing your ever-escalating collection of weapons at the thousands of increasingly spongy enemies that flood the screen. It’s a clever idea that’s stayed entertaining infinitely longer than I expected it to, and ev

Ash Ketchum Finally Becomes the World's Greatest Pokémon Trainer

After 25 years, perpetual 10-year-old Ash Ketchum has finally become the world's greatest Pokémon trainer. Ash's big moment took place in the latest episode of Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series , which premiered today in Japan. In it, Ash's Pikachu defeats a Charizard belonging to Leon, who video game fans will remember as the champion of Pokémon Sword and Shield's Galar region. Their battle was the final bout in the Pokémon World Coronation Series Masters Eight Tournament, which pits champions from across multiple regions against one another, including Cynthia, Iris, Steven, and Lance. By defeating Leon, Ash effectively proved himself the strongest of all the Pokémon League Champions, thus completing the dream he first set out to accomplish when he left Pallet Town in episode one of the original 1997 series. This is an especially big deal for Ash, who historically has had a tough run in tournaments like this. In fact, until 2019, he'd never managed to bec

Saints Row November Update Teased: 'It's a Beast!'

Saints Row is getting a huge new update, and it’s said to be "a beast." According to Saints Row’s Patch Hub , a new update is on its way in November, and it sounds as though it’s going to add a lot of new features. “We would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience while we got this update ready for release,” developers confirmed. “It includes over 200 fixes and quality-of-life updates, so it’s a beast!” The update includes plenty of new features, but most notably, improves co-op. That’s right – Saints Row’s co-op system is getting an upgrade, making it much easier for you to team up with friends and rain chaos upon Santo Ileso. “Co-op has been a huge priority for us,” they explained. “Significant effort has gone into ensuring that this is working as intended – including connectivity, mini-map issues, and proper credit of player rewards. Fun with a friend in Santo Ileso should be a much smoother experience going forward!” Additionally, pla

Marvel Snap Creator Shares 3 of His Best Decks

Image
There are a ridiculous amount of different decks to be built from Marvel Snap’s vast cast of characters. But which will help you win the most matches? That’s the golden question. We spoke to creator Ben Brode and asked him for the inside scoop on three of his best decks as well as what his favourite overall card is. Deck 1 - The “Omega” Deck “Okay, so the deck I was playing earlier today is an Omega Red deck, and it's a sneaky deck”, says Brode. “It has a combo. The combo is three cards. It's Omega Red, Iron Man, and Onslaught. With that combo you have just a humongous amount of power in a location because Omega Red is five power, Iron Man doubles it, and then Onslaught doubles the double again. So it's just like you're going to win that location for sure. But Onslaught also doubles Omega Red's power. Omega Red's ability is if you're winning by 10 or more, then you get plus four power to the other locations. With Onslaught, it's plus eight power to

Google Has Begun Processing Stadia Refunds

Google has begun the process of refunding customers for Stadia hardware, games, subscription fees and more as the demise of the cloud gaming service draws ever nearer. Back in September Google announced that it would shut down its short-lived Stadia video game streaming service on January 18. 2023, after the virtual console failed to gain the “traction with users” it had expected. In the same blog post that announced Stadia’s impending demise, Google also stated that it would be refunding all hardware purchases made via the Google Store and all game and DLC content bought through the Stadia Store. This includes hardware such as controllers, AAA open world RPGs like Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and Google’s own Stadia exclusive game Outcasters, which will cease to be playable when the service is terminated in January. In a new blog post and FAQ, the company announced that it has started automatically processing refunds as of November 9. Wherever possible Goog

It will also be compatible with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Tales of Symphonia follows Lloyd Irving and childhood friend Colette Brunel as they grapple with the horrors of living in a dying world. Along the way, they'll add charming new heroes to the party’s often tragic, but resilient, roster and introduce a new generation of Tales Of fans to one of the earlier games that popularized the series’ action RPG mechanics. Today’s announcement shared a second look at the remastered experience in a new trailer, which Bandai Namco says will feature “visual enhancements, gameplay improvements and new features.” The Chosen Edition will be its only physical print and includes a metalcase, art prints, and stickers. Tales of Symphonia originally launched for GameCube in 2003 but was later ported to PlayStation 3 and PC. Like in its initi

PlayStation Plus Game Catalog Will Include Skyrim: Enhanced Edition and All the Kingdom Hearts

Sony's revamped PlayStation Plus tier will add more to its Game Catalog offerings on November 15, including The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Special Edition and the entire Kingdom Hearts saga. PlayStation Plus launched its new tiered service back in June, and Game Catalog access applies to the Extra and Premium levels. November's update includes 16 new titles available to active subscribers, with a few major RPG and action titles thrown into the mix. It's not the fancier Anniversary Edition , but the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition for PlayStation 4 and 5 is one of the bigger titles joining the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog this month. It's missing some of the new content and graphic updates added in the Anniversary release, but the Skyrim Special Edition is still an improvement on the original. For those fine with the older upgrade, the IGN 8/10 Skyrim Special Edition review noted: "It still includes many of the original version’s bugs, ugly characte

A Dark Souls 3 2D Pixelart Metroidvania Was Pitched to Bandai Namco 6 Years Ago and It Looks Awesome

A 2D pixel art Metroidvania based on Dark Souls III was seemingly rejected by Bandai Namco. According to artist Thomas Feichtmeir ( via Twitter ), the side-scrolling Dark Souls 3 game was pitched to the company around 6 years ago… but, as we said, it was rejected. “A Dark Souls 3 - 2D pixel art Metroidvania was pitched to Bandai Namco [around] 6 years ago,” he said. “This is now finally out of NDA, so enjoy the visuals created back then.” A Dark Souls 3 - 2D pixelart metroidvania was pitched to Bandai Namco ~6 years ago. Dark Souls: Remastered on PC Has Its Online Features Restored

FromSoftware has restored online features for the PC version of Dark Souls Remastered after the servers were taken offline earlier this year due to hacking concerns. Online features for Dark Souls: Remastered, Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls 3 on PC were taken down in January this year after a “serious exploit” was discovered that allowed hackers to take control of player computers. Over the following months Bandai Namco and FromSoftware worked to remove the exploit , and in August the Servers for Dark Souls 3 were successfully brought back online. Multiplayer services for Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin followed in October. However, in the same Twitter thread FromSoftware revealed that, whilst Dark Souls: Remastered would eventually be brought back online, the original PC release - Dark Souls: Prepare to Die - would never have its online services restored . “We have determined that we will not be able to support online services for the PC version of Dark Souls: Prepare to

Street Fighter 6 Is Getting a Dynamic Control Scheme Meant to 'Help Button Mashers Excel'

Street Fighter 6 will be getting a new Dynamic Controls option that is meant to "help button masher excel." As reported by Game Informer, we already knew Street Fighter 6 would be getting a Modern control option that simplifies certain attacks into a single button press, but this third option - Dynamic Controls - looks to accomplish something more for a different type of player. Game Informer's Brian Shea was able to see Dynamic Controls in action, and he saw producer Shuhei Matsumoto tap face buttons one at a time to use all kinds of different attacks. As Shea puts it, "It quickly becomes apparent that Dynamic Controls aren't meant to test your skills as a Street Fighter player but rather to ensure every player is included in the fun." This could be a wonderful option for those who may play with a younger fighter and is another example of Street Fighter 6 attempting to be one of the most accessible entries in the franchise. "In a normal fighti

Horizon MMO Is Reportedly in the Works From Sony and NCSoft

Horizon is reportedly getting its very own MMO from Sony and NCSoft. According to MTN (via VGC ), the Horizon franchise, which includes Horizon: Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West , is heading online with an MMO from the makers of Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 . NCSoft is said to be currently recruiting for the project, which is referred to as “Project H” in the company’s job adverts. However, NCSoft has refused to confirm the existence of the game, stating: “It is difficult to confirm information about unpublished projects that are currently under development.” Horizon Zero Dawn launched in 2017 and begins to tell the story of Aloy – a young woman finding her feet in a post-apocalyptic, tribal world which is overrun by robotic creatures. The game was met with critical acclaim – IGN’s own review gave it 9.3/10 and said: “Across a vast and beautiful open world, Horizon Zero Dawn juggles many moving parts with polish and finesse. Its main activity - combat - is extremely sa
