Crusader Kings 3's First Paid DLC Is the Viking-Themed Northern Lords

Crusader Kings 3: Northern Lords is a Norse-themed flavor pack that is set to be released on March 16, 2021 as the game's first paid DLC. While this isn't a full-blown expansion to Crusader Kings 3, Northern Lords will still give players "dozens of new stories" and chances to "raid foreign shores, brave harsh winters, or establish a new Viking realm." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=crusader-kings-3-northern-lords-screenshots&captions=true"] Players will have a chance to found a new realm and establish power in foreign lands. Furthermore, Holy Norse warriors, shield-maidens, and poets will be available as new character roles. Since the Norse culture is the focus of this flavor pack, it will allow players to immerse themselves in that world by doing everything from erecting runestones to honor your ancestors to sacrificing prisoners in a sacred blot ritual. There will also be new Dynastic legacies, cul

EA Disables FIFA Discretionary Content Granting Indefinitely Amidst 'EA Gate' Scandal

EA has halted all FIFA discretionary content granting for an indefinite period of time as it investigates allegations that an employee, or at least someone involved with EA FIFA, has been selling rare FIFA 21 Ultimate Team items on a makeshift black market for real money. EA gave an update on this scandal, which the community has dubbed "EA Gate," and explained how it has launched a "rigorous investigation" on how this could have happened and how it is narrowing down which accounts received content through this "illicit method." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/06/fifa-21-review"] The company has also made clear that any accounts that have received items that were "transferred nefariously" will be permanently banned. These items, which are meant to be earned through gameplay or other engagement (i.e. a Twitch broadcast), were granted to other accounts by one or more EA accounts, which were "either compromised or

PixelJunk Raiders Review

In an era when Hades can win IGN’s Game of The Year award for reinventing the roguelike wheel, and more straightforward games like Dead Cells remain fun after countless runs, PixelJunk Raiders is a major disappointment. Despite a distinct visual style reminiscent of trippy synthwave albums or Moebius paintings, PixelJunk Raiders (perhaps the final Google Stadia exclusive ) fails to distinguish itself from the competition in any meaningful way. It does put forth some inventive ideas, but at the same time stumbles over the basics too much for them to matter. As a fresh-faced bounty hunter, it’s your job to rescue a bunch of desert-dwelling aliens from squid-faced baddies. But beaming down there in the flesh would be stupid, so you’ve got a limited number of digital avatars to complete your mission. It’s a thin setup, but certainly a familiar one. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really go anywhere, and you’ll often hear the same lines from your swarthy mentor congratulating you on nabbing s

Dead By Daylight Review

The rumors of its demise on the early morning of June 15, 2016 have been greatly exaggerated: Dead by Daylight has spent the last five years coming into its own as one of the best takes on asymmetrical multiplayer out there. Its very distinctive premise – a multiplayer horror game where one person is a monstrous killer who stalks, slashes, and attempts to capture a team of four survivors before they can accomplish objectives and escape – has been copied many times since, but never surpassed. Intricate but intuitive checks and balances and thoughtfully designed characters create an escalating back-and-forth that naturally recreates the tense arc of a horror movie, often ending in close calls. Part of what makes Dead by Daylight so unpredictable and deep is that it is, in a sense, two separate game modes happening at the same time. For the four survivors, it is an exercise in stealth and teamwork: at the start of each match, they must find and activate five of seven semi-randomly distri

Valheim: How One Player Bred an Army of Super Wolves

After you spend thousands of hours playing online survival games – even the newest, most popular ones like Valheim – it can be easy to become bored with the more repetitive tasks. Outside of any major quests or boss fights, you can only chop down so many trees and mine so many chunks of ore before you have to get creative. Since Valheim offers such a vast and dynamic game world (particularly thanks to its procedurally generated maps), you can't really ever know exactly what's around the next corner. That's why one intrepid survival game expert decided to test his luck against Valheim's current final boss not with an army of like-minded friends, but with a battalion of wild, ferocious wolves. Who Let The Wolves Out The road to overcoming Valheim’s most powerful foe in such a unique way wasn’t necessarily an easy task, and Calvin – or Alpaca, as he’s known online – explained how his journey toward beastmaster wasn’t an intentional one. “As for breeding the wolves, that

Skyrim, 4 Other Bethesda Games Get FPS Boost on Xbox Series X and S

You may have heard that Xbox Game Pass has now added 20 of Bethesda’s most popular games , thanks to the newly minted partnership between the companies. More good news: Some of them are getting an FPS boost courtesy of the Xbox Series X and Series S. The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Special Edition, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Dishonored: Definitive Edition, and Prey are all getting the option to boost their framerate. Xbox’s Larry Hryb and Jeff Rubenstein shared the announcement and details during Friday’s recording of the official Xbox podcast. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/03/12/xbox-bethesda-joins-the-xbox-family-trailer"] If for any reason you actually prefer to play the games at their original framerates, Rubenstein confirmed that players will be able to toggle the setting on their consoles. Rubenstein added that players can expect an “increase from 30 up to nearly 60 frames per second” when FPS boost is activated. The boost will require you to update your syste

Harvest Moon: One World Review

Somewhere in Harvest Moon: One World there's a really interesting seed of an idea for a new take on farming sims, which would be much appreciated after 25 years of very similar games. And in the right hands, turning a farming simulator series into a plot-driven, exploration-focused adventure game sounds like a brilliant idea. And yet One World fails in just about every way to do anything interesting or innovative with this new idea other than layer it on top of a deeply mediocre farming sim. Unlike its numerous Harvest Moon predecessors and competitors, One World does not have you inherit an old farm in a dying village and spend years rebuilding them, getting to know your neighbors, and generally settling down. Rather, you’re handed a portable farm (your scientist neighbor turns up on your doorstep and says “Look, I made you a portable farm” and that’s the end of the discussion) in the first 10 minutes and sent off on an adventure across its world, through five different towns wit

Crash Bandicoot 4: How Three Other Characters Became Playable Options

You’d certainly expect to play as Crash in a game named after the bandicoot, but Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time introduces three additional playable characters - Dr. Cortex, Dingodile, and Tawna - on top of Crash and Coco. Each comes with their own moveset and series of levels that test players with unique mechanics within the platforming framework of the Crash series. To coincide with Crash 4’s launch on PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch, IGN spoke with Crash 4 creative producer Lou Studdert about developer Toys for Bob’s creative process in bringing these characters to life. From the selection process to determining each character’s mechanical hook and more, read on for a behind-the-scenes glimpse of how Crash 4’s ensemble playable cast came to be. Zelda: Breath of The Wild Becomes a First-Person Game in Newly-Discovered Glitch

Image
Modders have already created some first-person camera for Breath of the Wild, but one player has managed to figure out a glitch that should (in theory) let anyone look at Hyrule from a totally different perspective. As reported by Kotaku , Twitter user A.xk managed to discover a specific button input that would trigger the camera to clip down to a roughly first-person view. Check out the gif below from A.xK's YouTube channel . Want to try it for yourself? Here’s A.xk’s instructions: New item hold glitch ↓ Camera ↓ Item hold ↓ Item hold cancel YouTuber Peco also managed to recreate the glitch if you want to see some longer clips of the first-person view. It remains to be seen if Nintendo addresses this glitch in a future patch, so make sure to check it out for yourself before too long. If seeing Hyrule from a new angle has you eager for more Zelda, the good news is that Nintendo says more Breath of the Wild 2 news will come later in 2021 . Unfortunately, it doesn’t se

Nintendo's Arms Graphic Novel Quietly Cancelled

Image
An Arms graphic novel coming from Nintendo has seemingly been cancelled, if the author's portfolio is anything to go off of. Ian Flynn wrote an introductory Free Comic Book Day 2018 issue of what was set to become an entire Arms graphic novel, but as reported by Video Games Chronicle  his  portfolio  now says the project was planned but "unfortunately canceled." The free comic book's cover literally reads "Graphic Novel Coming Fall 2018!" and when that Fall came without a trace of an Arms graphic novel, fans began to assume something was up. Perhaps it had been delayed, but as the years passed by, the general read was that it had probably been canned. Reddit user, Dr-Richie-74, noticed that on Flynn's portfolio page , it says the following under an Arms section: "Wrote the introductory Free Comic Book Day 2018 issue for a planned, but unfortunately canceled, graphic novel series based on the popular Nintendo fighting game franchise, ARMS." PS5 Is the Fastest-Selling Console in U.S. History for Dollar Sales

The PlayStation 5 is the fastest-selling console in U.S. history by dollar sales, but the second best-selling hardware platform in February 2021, with Nintendo Switch continuing to lead the market. The NPD Group released its monthly report covering best-selling consoles, video games, and more for February 2021 in the U.S. and the Nintendo Switch leads the charge as the best-selling console for the month, with the PS5 behind it in second. However, the PS5 did overtake a record previously held by the Switch when it became the fastest-selling console in U.S. history after the NPD Group tracked "total dollar sales after four months in market." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-best-ps5-games&captions=true"] The Switch's unit and dollar sales last month were the highest of any hardware platform in a February since the Nintendo Wii back in February of 2009. Halo Infinite Won't Have Dual-Wielding or Playable Elites

Halo Infinite won't feature some of the series' past features, such as dual-wielding or playable Elites, but it will include a very new feature – you can knock enemies off of the edge of the Halo ring itself. Developer 343 Industries held a fan Q&A , in which a number of questions were answered by members of the team. The most unexpected answer definitely came in the form of a response to whether enemies could be knocked off the new Zeta Halo setting. "The answer is yes," replied Troy Mashburn, gameplay director, who went on to offer an anecdote about just that: "I can tell you just recently I was playing in space, and I happened to be driving in with a Scorpion tank. I came around the corner and was face-to-face with a Wraith [tank], and just out of pure luck, pure coincidence, I managed to push the Wraith over the edge and just watched it slowly tilt back and just fall into the abyss, which was amazing, unexpected, and just such a cool moment that happened.

Call of Duty: Warzone Zombies Are Moving Across the Map

Zombies arrived in Call of Duty: Warzone just last month, and they've now begun migrating across the battle royale's map, and taken up residence in Verdansk's Prison. As teased in an 'in-universe' blog post , the zombies that washed ashore with the addition of a ghost ship to Verdansk's northern shore have now been found in the Prison Complex area nearby. Similarly to the ship, a terminal has been added to the Prison, which allows players to kick off a zombie-killing event, offering extra loot when 40 undead shamblers are dispatched. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/call-of-duty-updates-may-exceed-storage-capacity-of-base-playstation-4-ign-news"] The move could presage major changes for Verdansk, with some believing they'll slowly take over multiple areas, before the game's slowly-added nukes are deployed, triggering a radical change to the map. That's an idea supported by a leak that seems to point to a zombie-themed event called
