The Super Mario Bros. Movie Will Feature the DK Rap, Which Seth Rogen Calls 'One of the Worst Rap Songs'

Alongside revealing that the legendary DK Rap from Donkey Kong 64 will be featured in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Seth Rogen has also jokingly called it "objectively, one of the worst rap songs of all time." Rogen, who voices Donkey Kong in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, appeared on the film's official Twitter to share the exciting news and react to watching the original DK Rap from the opening of 1999's Donkey Kong 64. Movie (@supermariomovie) March 30, 2023 Rogen also confirmed that his version of Donkey Kong will be introduced with the DK Rap in the film before calling it, as previously mentioned, "one of the worst rap songs of all time." However, he finds more things to love as the song continues and even gives it a "10/10 bananas" rating at the end. The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog: New Sonic Game Gets Surprise Release on Steam

Sega loves to surprise Sonic fans, so they surprised everyone by releasing The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, a new murder mystery title featuring the Blue Blur and his friends, for free on Steam. The team wrote that the game "has been a labor of love from the Sonic Social team and a host of amazingly talented people who are just as passionate about Sonic as we are." Pokémon Go Is Raising Prices of Remote Raid Passes, and Fans Aren’t Happy

When the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020, Niantic introduced Remote Raids to Pokémon Go , which allowed people to access raids from the comfort of their own homes. Remote Raids allowed people to continue playing during lockdowns and kept Pokémon Go alive during a time when people weren’t really going outside at all . As players’ focus shifted away from the pandemic, however, Remote Raids remained a way to make Pokémon Go more accessible for all, especially for disabled people and those who live in rural communities. Three years after the pandemic began, Niantic is now hiking prices and putting caps on Remote Raid Passes to encourage people to play the game the way it was played before the pandemic — but the Pokémon Go community is pushing back. Yesterday, in a blog post , the Pokémon Go team revealed adjustments to the way Remote Raids work, including substantial price increases for Remote Raid Passes and rewards for players who participate in in-person raids. The update will also

Kirby and the Forgotten Land Developer Admits the Final Boss Difficulty Might've Been 'a Bit Too Steep'

In keeping with HAL Laboratory’s philosophy, Kirby games have gained a reputation as fun and approachable for the entire family. They’re full of cleverly hidden collectibles and the occasional biblically-accurate angel of a final boss to challenge folks who want something tricky, but you can also finish them easily enough with a kid riding shotgun as Waddle Dee. But maintaining the challenge and the approachability can be a difficult balance, perhaps as demonstrated in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Kirby franchise director Shinya Kumazaki tells me at the Game Developers Conference last week that he himself of a player of difficult games, and has his own personal standards of what’s fun and what’s not in terms of difficulty. But Kumazaki isn’t working with his own standards when designing Kirby games: Kirby is fundamentally intended to be extremely approachable for everyone , so you can’t expect it to be like a Dark Souls game. But that doesn’t mean they’re devoid of challenge, Kum

Forza Horizon 5: Rally Adventure Review

While on previous Forza Horizon games the wild, toy-themed expansions have come after a more grounded one, for Forza Horizon 5 developer Playground Games led with its terrific Hot Wheels add-on last year. However, after seven months of pounding the orange plastic high above the clouds, the team has taken us right back down to the desert and dust for some new rally-themed racing across a fresh slab of Mexican countryside. It admittedly isn’t quite as eye-catching – and it’s regressed from some key tweaks to the progression system introduced in Hot Wheels – but competing against the clock with a co-driver is a great new way to race in Horizon, and the excellent map is packed with far more technical routes than found in the main game. This map, which Playground has dubbed Sierra Nueva, is really the highlight of Rally Adventure – and perhaps deceptively so, considering it’s not as immediately distinct from the main game itself as, say, the snowy Blizzard Mountain DLC was from the co

How to Play The Legend of Zelda Games in Chronological Order

Image
The Legend of Zelda is one of the most beloved franchises in video game history, right next to Super Mario Bros., Pokemon, and Sonic the Hedgehog. For nearly 40 years, fans have enjoyed playing through the vast world and lore of Hyrule with various incarnations of Link, the mute green-clad knight sworn to protect the kingdom and Princess Zelda from the evil of Ganon. Now that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is approaching its release date in May, you may be looking play all the games in the series in release order or chronological order. If you’re going down the latter route and don’t know which Zelda game to start with, you’ve come to the right place. Read on for the full timeline. How To Play The Legend of Zelda Games In Chronological Order If you’ve been a hardcore Legend of Zelda fan since 1986, you may have noticed that Link appears as a young adult in one game, a child in another, and vice versa. The inconsistency in Link’s age is because Nintendo made the timeli

Live Service Games Are Exhausting

MultiVersus is closing its doors – well, early access doors – on June 25, and there’s been a lot of discourse about this move by Warner Bros. Games and Player First Games. I think the general consensus is that everyone sort of forgot MultiVersus was an Early Access game as it’s had not one but two seasons since it launched. A lot of games recently have been coming out as Open Beta, Beta, or Early Access, and they just kind of stay that way. DayZ is the biggest example I can think of; the game had been in alpha for five years but just came out as a beta in 2018. Now, this isn’t a great example since you can’t buy a battlepass or cosmetics for DayZ, and MultiVersus has a battlepass and cosmetics system in place, but you can still purchase DayZ to play this beta. Generally, if an early access game does close down for a bit, it’s not a big deal. But MultiVersus’ early access really appeared to be a fully released game. There were more than a handful of tournaments for MultiVersus at

ESA Head Blames E3 Cancellation on Wider Industry Challenges, Won't Say If Event Will Return

Following IGN's report earlier today that E3 has officially been canceled , GamesIndustry.biz has published an interview with ESA president and CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis in which he was asked about what went wrong with the show and whether or not the show would return in the future — though Pierre-Louis was fairly tight-lipped about the answers to these questions. When asked what went wrong with the show this year, Pierre-Louis pointed to larger industry challenges that proved "too large to surmount." "First, several companies have reported that the timeline for game development has been altered since the start of the COVID pandemic. Second, economic headwinds have caused several companies to reassess how they invest in large marketing events. And third, companies are starting to experiment with how to find the right balance between in-person events and digital marketing opportunities." Later in the interview, Pierre-Louis was asked if ESA members were no l

Exclusive: Etrian Odyssey's Devs on Adapting Its Touchscreen to Switch and Its $80 Price Point

When Nintendo retired the 3DS shortly after the release of the Nintendo Switch, one of the first questions fans asked was whether this meant the end for Etrian Odyssey. A popular dungeon crawling series that originally made its debut on the Nintendo DS, Etrian Odyssey was built around the dual touchscreen design that defined that platform. Technically, it could be replicated on the Switch, but it was apt to be far more unwieldy. In February, Atlus put some of those fears to rest with the Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection, a remastered collection that will bring the first three games to PC and Switch . In an exclusive new interview with IGN, Etrian Odyssey HD’s devs – who preferred to be identified as a team rather than individually – expanded on the challenge of bringing the franchise’s unique touchscreen controls to new platforms. They also talked about how it will be tackling difficulty, why they chose the games they did, and its somewhat controversial $80 price point. You can re

Crusader Kings 3's Royal Court DLC Comes to Consoles in May

Crusader Kings 3's critically acclaimed Royal Court DLC is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S on May 17. Royal Court is a major expansion to Crusader Kings 3, adding several elements including the Throne Room, Grandeur, an Inventory System, and more. The Throne Room is available to king and emperor characters as a visual representation of the player's royal court that reflects their success. The royal court can also be improved with the Grandeur feature that lets players bling up their residence to attract better guests and impress rivals. Similarly, Inspired People such as talented artists, craftspeople, and thinkers can work on new projects, adding further treasures and artifacts. The Royal Court update also adds hybrid creatures, cultural divergence, and more that resulted in the expansion being praised by critics. In our review of the PC version, IGN said it's "the best kind of strategy expansion, weaving in new features that make running a kin

Naughty Dog Releases First Patch for The Last Of Us Part 1 on PC

Naughty Dog has released its first patch for the troubled PC port of The Last of Us Part 1. The hotfix addresses "several performance and hitch-related issues," according to the developer. In addition to remedying some of its performance woes, The Last of Us Part 1 v1.0.1.5 adds "extra crash diagnostic information to assist in investigating shader building related crashes and other common reported stability issues", according to Naughty Dog . The studio notes it is "closely watching player reports and actively working on a patch with more bugfixes, to be released soon." The patch comes just two days after The Last of Us Part 1 was released on PC. Users have reported issues with excessive crashing and performance, specifically related to shader compiling, leading to a "mostly negative" rating on Steam with over 9,000 reviews. The PC port was developed by Iron Galaxy, which previously released the Switch remaster of Metroid Prime and the

Amnesia: The Bunker Feels Like A New Beginning For The Series

The Amnesia series from developer Frictional Games sits comfortably among the scariest horror games ever. Each entry tells a personal story about survival against supernatural forces, injecting a palpable sense of dread as you carefully move in near-darkness, constantly staying one step ahead of nightmarish monsters nipping at your heels or the growing anxiety that slowly chips away at the sanity of the protagonist. But the upcoming sequel, Amnesia: The Bunker, takes a unique approach to story-driven survival horror, focusing more on the moment-to-moment actions and choices you make taking that daring plunge into the unknown. After my hands-on time with it, I felt more unnerved and impressed with what tricks this series has yet to show off. Amnesia: The Bunker takes place during the height of World War 1. Playing as the French soldier Henri Clement caught in the trenches during a grueling battle, he finds himself in a seemingly abandoned bunker's infirmary, with little memory

PlayStation VR2 Reportedly Off to an Underwhelming Start

Sony's PlayStation VR2 is reportedly off to an underwhelming start with the virtual reality headset only expected to sell 270,000 units by the end of March. As reported by Bloomberg , the figure comes from research firm IDC and, while 270,000 is still a lot of headsets, reports last year indicated that Sony was looking to produce two million PSVR 2 units to be sold by the end of March . Vice president of data and analytics at IDC Francisco Jeronimo told Bloomberg that Sony would need to cut the price of the PSVR 2 to stop its launch being a "complete disaster". The headset, which already sits at $549.99, is made even pricier by the additional $499.99 cost of the required PlayStation 5. "Consumers around the world are facing rising costs of living, rising interest rates, and rising layoffs. VR headsets are not top of mind for most consumers under the current economic climate," said Jeronimo. "I suspect a price cut on the PSVR2 will be needed to avoid a

Horizon Forbidden West Expansion's Impressive Cloud Tech Is a Big Reason It's PS5 Only

Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores is right around the corner, but Guerilla rendered the expansion a PS5-exclusive because of clouds — literally. Senior community manager Narae Lee wrote on the PlayStation Blog that the developers upgraded the clouds system so that the game's open-world cloudscape would look more realistic — but only as much as the PS5 can handle. Principal FX artist Andrew Schneider and tech programmer Nathan Vos expanded on the cloud system they developed for Horizon Zero Dawn in 2015 with voxel technology, which supports not only changes to the time of day and realistic animations, but now in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores it will allow players to fly through the clouds and complete side quests on their Sunwing as if they're on Cloud 9. "The cloud systems that we developed for Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West were fast because they didn’t store clouds as 3D objects, but rather instructions on creating 3D clouds from limited

Resident Evil 4 Remake Is a Love(craftian) Letter to My Favorite Monsters

There are a lot of reasons to love Resident Evil 4, but something that jumped out at me while playing through the remake is how it feels like a medley of homages to some of the greatest horror movie monsters and antagonists of all time. There’s no way of telling how many of these actually are deliberate nods to other fiction, and how much it’s my own brain jumping to conclusions, but it’s still fun to dissect the many weird parts that make up this masterpiece of a game. It’s pretty safe to say The chainsaw-wielding burlap sack-wearing Dr. Salvador takes some inspiration from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s Leatherface, and quite possibly Jason Voorhees’ baggier, less athletic look from Friday The 13th Part 2. Del Lago might be more salamander than shark, but that whole boss fight would be right at home in the third act of a Jaws movie. The lumbering El Gigante bears a striking resemblance to the cave troll in The Fellowship of the Ring. This seems even more apparent in the remake, a
