The Witcher: Vesemir Explained - Who Is Geralt's Mentor in Season 2

Season 2 of The Witcher kicks off in December, bringing a significant expansion of the show’s cast of characters and notable casting that includes Bridgerton’s Adjoa Andoh as the priestess Nenneke and Game of Thrones’ Kristofer Hivju as the cursed noble Nivellen. One of the most significant new characters is Vesemir, who will be played by Kim Bodnia of Killing Eve (despite rumors at one point that the role would go to Mark Hamill ). During Netflix’s Tudum presentation, the streaming giant released a new Witcher franchise trailer , with never-before-seen footage from Season 2, including our first up-close look at Bodnia’s portrayal of the famous Witcher. Netflix has built anticipation for his appearance and provided viewers with a way to get to know the character better by giving him a starring role in the anime prequel The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf , where a younger version of the character was voiced by Divergent’s Theo James. But who is Vesemir, exactly? Read on or wat

2K Wanted BioShock on Phones, Here's How One Dev Team Pulled it Off

The mid to late 2000s featured a particularly prevalent trend of extending a game’s reach by porting it to as many platforms as possible, regardless of whether or not those platforms were a good fit. Games like Need for Speed: Most Wanted, 007: Quantum of Solace, and Cars 2, alongside so many more, saw releases on consoles and PC, as expected, but also saw downgraded or drastically different versions hit handhelds like the PSP, Nintendo DS, and even mobile phones. The trend hit a number of major console and PC games of the era. Perhaps, most surprisingly, the acclaimed first-person adventure BioShock saw the release of a mobile port known as BioShock 3D . Though there’s a tendency to wave away the handheld or mobile versions of console games like BioShock, its mobile development is a fascinating example of the work that went into such an adaptation. According to Tridev, the developers of BioShock 3D who spoke to IGN about its creation, such a port included any number of technical,

World War Z: Aftermath Review

With the Aftermath expansion, World War Z is a much different game than when it debuted in 2019, and overwhelmingly for the better. With more episodes to rampage through, a greater selection of playable classes, and dozens of major quality-of-life improvements (like zombies no longer being able to pull you off ledges and devour you in the most unfair manner imaginable, for example), there’s a lot to love about it these days. Aftermath is the next major step for this sleeper hit and one that mostly succeeds at moving the zombie-filled shooter in the right direction. That said, with ongoing online issues, forgettable stories, and some gameplay growing pains, it still has plenty of room to grow. One of the more noteworthy things Aftermath adds is two excellent new campaigns that take you to reclaim Vatican City in Rome and to the utterly dismal wastes of Kamchatka, Russia. As with previous episodes, these episodes are challenging, heart-pounding nightmare scenarios that pit you and up

Spider-Man Fan Recreates Classic Movie Posters Using Only Images From Insomniac's Games

A graphic designer has recreated multiple Spider-Man movie posters using only assets from Insomniac's Spider-Man games on PlayStation 5 to do so. Twitter user @ursRockrider has so far recreated the posters for Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 2 with impeccable accuracy. By the use of PS5 in the hashtags, it's safe to assume the PlayStation 5 versions of Spider-Man (2018) and Spider-Man: Miles Morales were used over the PlayStation 4 versions. The recreation of the Amazing Spider-Man poster was published by Rock Rider on Tuesday. Within hours of publishing, the official Insomniac Games Twitter account responded by calling the fan art, "Simply Amazing." Hearth & Home - Valheim's Long Voyage Through Early Access

Valheim took the gaming world by storm when it hit early access in February this year. A complex survival game crafted by the (then) five-person strong Iron Gate Studio out of Sweden, the launch nabbed a 9/10 review and by March had more than one million players per team member . Seven months later, and it's streaking back up the player count charts on Steam again thanks to the release of "Hearth and Home", Valheim's first major update. The content drop brings with it an array of changes for all facets of the game — new building possibilities, new items to find (particularly in the Mountains), new food to cook and more. For some, seven months is a long time to wait between drinks, though veterans of other survival games like Subnautica and The Forest will probably think nothing of it. And for Iron Gate Studio, it was a question of priorities. "Basically, the amount of people playing made it really important for us to fix a lot of bugs pretty immediately

The Shadowrun Trilogy is coming to Nintendo Switch in 2022. The collection of cult classic RPGs feature turn based combat, branching narrative paths, and more. They take place in a dystopian future, and are described as, "cyberpunk-meets-fantasy." Paradox Interactive's trilogy includes Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun Dragonfall - Director's Cut, and Shadowrun Hong Kong - Extended Edition. The trilogy is already available on PC. The games take place in locations across the globe, including Seattle, Berlin, and Hong Kong. The trailer showed off combat reminiscent of XCOM. In our original Shadowrun Returns review , we called the game "good," saying, "the light tactical combat has enough depth to make it a worthwhile adventure." The series was originally created as a tabletop RPG more than 30 years ago. About a decade ago, the series came back in the form of new, single player RPGs. The games were released originally in 2013, 2014, and 2015. For

Bayonetta 3 Gets Release Window and Gameplay Reveal

Bayonetta 3 has finally gotten a gameplay reveal, and a release date. Nearly four years after its original announcement, we finally got to see Bayonetta's new moves, new enemies, and her new hairstyle. Shown during today's Nintendo Direct, we were treated to Bayonetta going head-to-head with a massive kaiju monster. The trailer also provided glimpses of new areas and monsters, including a subway train and a monstrous spider. All of this takes place in a devastated Tokyo, which seems to be one of the game's key settings. The final shot of the trailer gave us a glimpse of a character that some are speculating to be Vergil from Devil May Cry, or at least someone who looks a lot like him. Could we be in for a big crossover? We shall see. After a teaser and announcement in 2017 , we've heard very little about Bayonetta 3, and seen even less. Director Hideki Kamiya said that it would be safe to expect news on the action game this year, and we're delighted that

Project Triangle Strategy Gets 'Fine-Tuned' Ahead of March Release

During today's Nintendo Direct presentation, it was announced that Square Enix and developer ArtDink have been working on "fine-tuning" the game based on feedback from a survey that went out alongside the game's free demo back in February. These updates include adjustments to difficulty, improvements to on-screen visuals like the UI, camera controls, the ability to review prior dialogue, and streamlined game flow and loading times. Project Triangle Strategy was announced earlier this year , and is a turn-based tactical RPG in the same visual style as Octopath Traveler. It follows a story of conflict between three nations and its aftermath, where a group of heroes travel the world and engage in various battles on different terrain, where elevation plays a role in tactics. During today's Nintendo Direct presentation, we got our first proper look at Yoko Taro's upcoming card-based RPG, Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars, which we also learned is coming to Nintendo Switch on October 28. The game is a turn-based RPG where everything, from characters to shops, towns and environments, is represented as cards. It's all represented on a tabletop, with characters clearly having different stats and certain rules dictating the outcomes of battles, which the trailer advertises as leaning on both skill and luck. Aside from Taro's involvement, he's assembled a pile of Nier series veterans to work with on this new endeavor. Yosuke Saito is on board as executive producer, Kimihiko Fujisaka joins as a character designer, and Keiichi Okabe is directing music. Voice of Cards was previously announced by publisher Square Enix earlier this month , with Taro at the time saying the project was “difficult to explain,” and a “somewhat unusual game.”

Final Fantasy 14 Players Are Asking For Better Cyber Safety Features

Final Fantasy 14 players are asking Square for better cyber safety features to prevent harassment in the game. A Reddit post on Thursday that has gathered almost 4,000 upvotes at the time of writing outlines several issues Square could take to prevent in-game stalking. Primarily how character names are easy to find on Square's Lodestone database, which can reveal a character's location, server, appearance, and more. Unfriending a user also only removes them from the person who unfriended them. So, any unfriended user can visit the Lodestone database to find the user who wants to unfriend them. Users can also be matched with players who they have blacklisted. Final Fantasy players are simply asking for the option to make Lodestone profiles private. "I love this game dearly, but it's an MMO, and stalkers and harassment is [sic] plentiful," the Reddit user wrote in the initial post. "I've heard so many horror stories, had to console friends who'v

Diablo 2: Resurrected Review in Progress

Activision Blizzard is currently facing serious ongoing allegations of harassment and mistreatment of marginalized workers . To learn more, please visit our timeline as well as our in-depth report on the subject . Diablo 2: Resurrected has arrived, and I've had a couple of days’ head start. I've been smashing demons aside for enough hours that I’m now breaking into Act 3 and I am absolutely not bored – I'm honestly delighted. I probably played hundreds (but I'd wager less than a thousand) hours of Diablo 2 between 2000 and 2007, and Resurrected absolutely scratches an itch for a style of game that's not really made anymore – not just aesthetically, but mechanically. It’s all coming back. I mean, the mood of this game is just superb. The updated graphics do so much more than a simple homage to the original game, adding environment details that were just out of the question in 2000. Locations like the Monastery Gates in Act 1, an outdoor area that was alway
