Xbox Working Closely With Palworld Developers to Enable Faster Updates, Dedicated Servers, and More

Palworld, playfully dubbed as "Pokémon with guns" on account of its similar-looking monster designs , has experienced a meteoric rise in the three weeks since its launch as one of the biggest releases in gaming history. While the argument over whether Palworld is a rip-off of Pokémon is still being debated among fans and Nintendo's lawyers , what's not up for discussion is that the game's overwhelming success has garnered it Microsoft's support moving forward. In a recent blog post on Xbox Wire , Xbox announced that it will be working directly with Pocketpair, the developers of Palworld, to assist in supplying the resources necessary to keep the momentum of the monster survival game going strong. "On Xbox’s part, we’re working with Pocketpair to help provide support for Xbox versions of the game," Xbox said in the blog post. "We’re providing support to enable dedicated servers, offering engineering resources to help with GPU and memory opti

Obsidian Explains Why Avowed Won't Let You Romance Your Companions

With games like Starfield and Baldur's Gate 3 last year having players wax poetic about which of their video game besties they most want to smooch, it can sometimes feel like romance systems are becoming a staple of AAA party-based RPGs. But that's not going to be the case with Avowed, which is opting to forego a dedicated romance system for a focus on "building thoughtful relationships" with companions instead. This comes from an interview IGN did with Avowed game director Carrie Patel, where she confirmed Avowed would not feature romance options, and why: "We are building thoughtful relationships with our companion characters," she said. "Ultimately, I personally am a fan of making that an option, but I feel like if you're going to do it, you really, really have to commit and make sure that you're giving all to fulfilling that in a way that feels both true to the character, but also creates an engaging player experience. So not something w

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Isn't Kevin Conroy's Final Batman Performance

Following Kevin Conroy's death in 2022 , it's been widely assumed that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League would mark the last time we heard the actor reprise his famous role as the Caped Crusader. But, while Kill the Justice League is indeed his final video game voice appearance as the character, he has two other posthumous performances coming up in Batman film and television, IGN has learned from a source with knowledge of the situation. One of them will be in Bruce Timm's Batman: Caped Crusader, an upcoming animated series that was picked up by Prime Video . While we've confirmed that Conroy did record for the show before his death, we're not entirely sure if he'll be voicing Batman specifically. The other, however - Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part Three - will indeed have Conroy reprising Bruce Wayne/Batman from Batman: The Animated Series. The first part of the Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy was released earlier this month, and w

Starfield Patch 1.9.51 Features Some Drastic Lighting Changes

After a brief time in Steam Beta, a significant update for Starfield in 2024 is now live , and one of the most significant changes coming to the update focuses on improving the lighting for in-game locations. Spotted by various members on ResetEra and Reddit , Starfield's Update 1.9.51.0 makes some tweaks to lighting. Specifically, the patch notes mention that Bethesda Game Studios has improved lighting at 73 locations. While it does not go into specifics, Starfield players online have begun posting before and after the update was installed in several locations. Most notably, Reddit user DinDisco posted a gallery of these images showing what Starfield looked like in a few locations before and after. Pictures of specific areas, such as the Red Mile and mining caves, have drastic differences in lighting. The latter, for example, shows one cave replacing the greyish brown color scheme with blue minerals in favor of the entire lighting having a cool blue hue inside. According t

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Has the Yakuza Series' Best Steam Launch

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth has logged the Yakuza series' biggest ever launch on Steam, with more than four times the player count of previous mainline entry Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Infinite Wealth, which arrived January 26 as the eight mainline Yakuza game, achieved a peak concurrent player count of 46,161 during its launch weekend, compared to the seventh mainline entry's peak of 9,535 concurrent players, according to SteamDB . The previous record was held by spin-off Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name , which launched in November 2023, but even this was at just 13,737 peak concurrents and therefore blown out of the water by Infinite Wealth. These are the only comparable numbers for the Yakuza series, however, as all previous games only launched on Steam after their initial releases on console. But the growth from Yakuza: Like a Dragon to Infinite Wealth certainly suggests a huge boost in popularity of the series overall. Infinite Wealth takes the se
