The Nier: Automata Mod That Fooled the World | IGN Inside Stories

Image
In June 2022, a new Reddit user named SadFutago joined the Nier Automata subreddit to ask what might seem to outsiders a fairly innocuous question: "How do you open the church?" Their post was short and sweet, seemingly coming from a confused, not-exactly-internet-savvy gamer who wanted to know how to access a building in Nier: Automata that, they claimed, was closed off for their friend, but open for them. The problem? There was no such church in Nier: Automata, to anyone's knowledge. Dataminers had never heard of it. It didn’t exist in any guide, or video, or older build known to anyone in the audience. And as more information, and later images and clips came out of this location no one had ever seen before, the Nier subreddits, Discords, and eventually wider gaming communities went into a frenzy trying to solve the mystery of the never-before-seen church. SadFutago kicked off a beautiful mess of a multi-month storyline that twisted the community, media, and even e...

Blizzard Reveals Diablo 4 Will Have Over 50 Individual Accessibility Features

Blizzard has revealed that over 50 accessibility options will be available in Diablo 4 and how making this latest entry in the legendary franchise as accessible as possible was a "flame that guided them all through development." Some of Diablo 4's accessibility options were shared on a blog from Blizzard, and the post began with lead accessibility designer Drew McCrory stating that, "the only limitation to adventuring in Sanctuary should be interest, not capability." The team began their accessibility journey in Diablo 4 by building off the foundation created with Diablo 2: Resurrected and ensuring they make the game open to as many people as possible while also "being careful not to mar gameplay for others." As previously mentioned, Diablo 4 will launch with over 50 individual accessibility features, and the team took time to focus on some of the aids to dexterity, reading text, and vision in the announcement blog. Dexterity Assistance The fi...

Tears of the Kingdom's NPCs Really Just Want Link to Put Some Clothes on

Image
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is full of little details and easter eggs that make exploring the world an utter delight. And one specific feature that carried over from Breath of the Wild is the way so many different characters react to Link behaving in unusual ways. More specifically, to Link being naked. Okay, so Link technically can't ever be totally naked. He's got a pretty snazzy looking pair of shorts he wears no matter what. But if he avoids a shirt and pants combo, loads of characters will comment on his appearance with remarks ranging from amused to confused to scandalized. Here are just a handful we found: Even the robotic Zonai Constructs don't understand why Link is acting this way. A lot of people seem to really want Purah's attention, and I don't think this is the best way to get it. Poor Paya. She's already awkward enough around Link - why do we have to make things even harder for her? Some characters don't respond at all...

China's State Administration has approved Microsoft's attempted $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, joining a total of 37 regulators including the EU and Japan. The news was first surfaced today on SeekingAlpha via a Dealreporter item, and has since been confirmed via a statement from a Microsoft spokesperson sent to IGN: China's unconditional clearance of our acquisition of Activision Blizzard follows clearance decisions from jurisdictions such as the European Union and Japan, bringing the total to 37 countries representing more than two billion people. The acquisition combined with our recent commitments to the European Commission will empower consumers worldwide to play more games on more devices. This news comes just a few days after the European Commission approved the deal in the EU. The one opposing voice thus far remains the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which blocked the deal on the basis of its potential to let Microsoft mo...

LEGO 2K Drive Review

Image
LEGO 2K Drive may sound like it was named at 5:40 on a Friday afternoon – seriously, if blending the publisher’s name and a five-letter verb describing what you’ll be doing most is all it takes these days, I look forward to the next Call of Duty being christened Activision Shoot – but hey, don’t hold that against it. Highly charming and imaginative, 2K Drive fuses confident kart racing with a virtually unlimited custom garage, making it a place where you can spend just as much time fastidiously building vehicles as you do frantically racing them. LEGO 2K Drive cribs from a lot of existing racers, which makes it fairly easy to explain. Forza Horizon 4’s dearly-loved LEGO expansion rates as an automatic mention as a fellow open-world, LEGO-themed racer (and they certainly both share the idea of having races and challenges spread out across the map to organically discover as we explore). However, despite that obvious LEGO link, 2K Drive is arguably more in-line with Ubisoft’s The Crew...
