Demon's Souls on PS5 Has a Mysterious Door That Wasn't in the Original

Image
Players have seemingly discovered a mysterious locked door in World Level 1-3 of the Demon's Souls remake on PS5 that wasn't in the original PS3 version. As spotted by Twitter user @VaatiVidya, Reddit user OrganizedBonfire found this illusory wall in the Tower Knight Archstone of Demon's Souls on PS5 while exploring its tight corridors. After stumbling upon the door and trying to open it, a message appears that says "It appears to be locked." There's a mysterious new door in the Demon's Souls Remake, and no one knows how to open it https://t.co/TdpHLuIRsR pic.twitter.com/MwYjcNy7ed — Vaati (@VaatiVidya) November 14, 2020 As of this writing, what lies beyond the door, and even if it can be opened, remains a mystery. Reddit user Cosmic-Vagabond discovered that, by using photo mode, you are able to see that the door appears to lead to a terrace with an item sitting on a dead knight. PS5's DualSense Is Now Supported in Steam Client Beta

For those with a brand new PlayStation 5, or even those with a DualSense waiting on one, Valve has announced that the DualSense is now supported in Steam Client Beta. As revealed in the Steam Client Beta's latest patch notes, initial input support for the PS5 DualSense controller has been added, but "features such as rumble, trackpad, and gyro are not yet supported." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/06/ps5-dualsense-controller-review"] This means that, while you are able to use the DualSense, official support is not ready for its Haptic Feedback, Adaptive Triggers, or gyro motion control. It is promising that Valve chose to use the words "not yet," so there is hope that PC developers may one day get the chance to experiment with the DualSense's unique features for their games. In our DualSense review , we said "With the DualSense, Sony has both made a more comfortable gamepad for traditional gameplay, and introduced some very...

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies Review in Progress

[Editor’s Note: This review is focused exclusively on the Zombies mode for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Read our review of the Cold War single-player campaign and our  multiplayer review in progress .] Zombies mode hasn’t changed all that much since the undead first invaded Call of Duty in World at War back in 2008. You and up to three friends mow down horde after horde, and only survive the higher levels by being smart about what to pick up and what to leave behind. The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War version hasn’t done a great job with that dilemma; its gunplay is strong and it looks great on PlayStation 5, but it skimps on content by recycling the original Zombies map and takes a step backward in overall depth, dropping some features that I miss in the process. Connectivity In Flux Before launch, online performance and connectivity was great as I played with other reviewers, but once the servers went live I started having issues on PlayStation 5. Frequent disconn...

Star Wars: Battlefront 2's Janina Gavankar Cameoed in The Mandalorian, And You Definitely Didn't Notice

Image
The Star Wars galaxy might be far, far away, but it’s composed of a surprisingly tight-knit group of collaborators. For example, Janina Gavankar, who starred as Iden Versio in Star Wars: Battlefront 2, had a small part in the most recent episode of The Mandalorian. But not as Iden. Instead, Gavankar helped puppeteer a Mon Calamari's nostrils. The most recent episode of The Mandalorian finds our stoic Baby Yoda dad hanging out with some new acquaintances and a Mon Calamari. This is where you’ll — well not "see" per se — but see Gavankar's work as the second puppeteer of the nostrils on this Mon Calamari. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-actor-and-character-in-the-mandalorian&captions=true"] In a phone call with IGN, Gavankar shared how she wound up on the set of the most recent episode of The Mandalorian, "The Heiress," where she helped puppeteer a special effect on the show. As it turns out, the e...

Xbox Series X|S: 4 Things We Love & 3 Things We Don't

As with any new hardware, new game consoles have their strengths and weaknesses. Several of our staff have now spent more than a week with the Xbox Series X and S, and have put together a list of the things they love on Microsoft’s new systems as well as where both new Xboxes have room to grow. Check out the video below, or scroll down for the full list! What the Series X|S Does Well Here's what we really like about the new iteration of the Xbox experience. Presentation The presentation when you open the Series X packaging is honestly, genuinely the best I’ve ever seen in any console. It really feels like you’re opening up something special. It’s Apple-level good, if not better. – Ryan McCaffrey, Executive Editor Setting up a console shouldn’t be a pleasure, but somehow Series X makes it one. After a quick sync-up, the entire set-up process can be handled through the Xbox app. It’s simple, seamless, and feels somehow futuristic – not to mention lets you check in on other sett...

CoD: Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer Review in Progress: Launch Impressions

Image
[Editor’s Note: This will be our last update to this review in progress from our reviewer, Simon Cardy before he finalises his thoughts and issues a score early next week. Make sure to check out our review of the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War single-player campaign if you haven’t, and stand by for our review of Zombies.] My time with Cold War’s multiplayer since launch has been rocky. Not due to the gameplay itself, which largely feels unchanged since the Beta, but mostly down to the state of the online servers. I’ve had numerous disconnections, a fair bit of lag, and one hard crash back to the PlayStation 5’s home screen so far. When it does work (which is rarely at this stage) it provides solid if unspectacular gunplay with the new maps failing to impress and some balancing still needing to be done. Yes, it’s launch day in a nutshell. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/black-ops-cold-war-multiplayer-gameplay-pc"] It’s easy to tell early on that although snipers ...

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Main Location Is a Huge Historical Coincidence

Image
Ravensthorpe, the Viking settlement that players build and customise in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, is a fictional place invented by Ubisoft’s writers. Except it isn't all that fictional after all: Ravensthorpe is actually a real place in England, and the developers had no idea until a few months before the game launched. In AC Valhalla, the fictional settlement of Ravensthorpe is located in the middle of England’s central kingdom, Mercia. "We chose the name Ravensthorpe because Eivor's clan was the Raven clan, and Thorpe means 'farmland'... and we set the settlement in the middle of Mercia so it was centrally located on the map,” explained Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Narrative Director, Darby McDevitt, in a thread about the discovery on Reddit . The real Ravensthorpe, meanwhile, is a village in Northamptonshire. It may not have originated as a Viking settlement, but in its position just slightly south east of Coventry, it is pretty much in the middle of England. ...

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Campaign Features a Hidden Grenade Launcher Pooped Out By a Mascot

A campaign mission in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War features a mascot that poops out a hidden grenade launcher. Players on the Black Ops Cold War Subreddit found the, er, cheeky Treyarch Easter egg in the campaign mission Redlight, Greenlight. You can check out footage of the feat here  – it seems you need to press the button on the Burger Town animatronic mascot until he has no more voice lines to say. After which he has some bowel trouble and releases an M79 grenade launcher from his noob tube. Poor guy... [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/13/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-campaign-review"] We're sure this isn't the only Easter egg in the Black Ops Cold War campaign, given Treyarch is notorious for including strange little touches, like the Ray Gun found in the Little Resistance mission in Call of Duty World at War. If you spot any yourself, feel free to let us know in the comments below. We recently reviewed the campaign of Call of Duty Black Op...

Spider-Man PS4's Terrifying Boat NPCs Get An Easter Egg In Spider-Man Remastered

Image
The terrifying boat NPCs found in Marvel's Spider-Man on PS4 have received a cheeky easter egg in Spider-Man Remastered on PS5. If you didn't spot them on your first playthrough, you can see the haunting, half-rendered monsters in their original form via  our video from 2018. These beasts of obvious burden return in Spider-Man Remastered on PS5, but Insomniac has slipped in a nod to their meme-worthy potential in-game. Beyond the lighting improvements making the top of their hedronic heads look even more gruesome, one of the NPCs now totes a sticky note on his chest which says "Did you miss us? <3" We've gone looking for Boat NPCs in Spider-Man: Miles Morales too, but sadly we haven't been able to find a boat close enought to shore to check out its passengers. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/09/12/spider-man-ps4s-boat-npcs-will-haunt-my-dreams"] Fair play to Insomniac for having some fun with the reference. The Ratchet and Clank d...

PS5 Suffering From a Download Queue Bug

PS5 is suffering from a bug that causes games and apps to be caught in a "Queued for Download" or error state, with the only current fix seemingly to factory reset the console. The bug – which has been suffered by at least three members of IGN staff, among many reports popping up – appears to occur when a product is first set to download. The bug can then seemingly take two forms, either listing the game/app as Queued for Download, or as having suffered a download error. Both will prompt you to check the Downloads menu, which then shows nothing. The upshot is that your game is stuck in limbo - it won't download, and it can't be cancelled and redownloaded. In all cases among IGN staff, the PS5 library will show that you own the game/app, but checking the PS5 Store will say that you don't, asking you to purchase it. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/ps5-4-things-we-love-4-things-we-dont"] Large numbers of reports have centred on the bug hitting the...

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War – Campaign Review

[Editor’s Note: This review zeroes in exclusively on the single-player campaign for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Look for our multiplayer and zombies reviews in the next few days.] For a series known for virtually non-stop shooting, it’s surprising how much time you spend in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s single-player campaign with your weapons holstered. Certainly more than any other game in the franchise’s 17-year history. But whether it’s walking around your safehouse and getting to know your covert ops crew or sneaking around KGB headquarters as a Russian double agent trying to figure out a way to smuggle your American friends into the ultra-secure building, the latest COD puts that quiet time to good use. Sure, it’s got plenty of loud parts too – there are high-speed shootouts, rooftop chases, and assassination missions – you know, the usual stuff. But this time around, it reaches its peak without any weapons drawn. Black Ops Cold War really sells its, um, black ops...
