PS5 Lets You Automatically Turn Subtitles On for All Your Games

The PlayStation 5 comes with a variety of accessibility options, including the option to create custom presets so all your games play similarly when you first boot them up. That means, for example, if you prefer playing with subtitles on, you can make it so that subtitles will be turned on by default for each new PS5 game. Sony revealed the preset options during a tour of its UI and settings earlier this week. Now that we can talk more in-depth about the PS5, we know exactly how presets work and what players can change. To configure your PS5 presets , players can go to Settings, then Saved Data and Game/App Settings then to Game PResets. From there you’ll have the option to change Subtitles and Audio that will let you turn subtitles and preferred audio options on by default for any new game. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=confirmed-playstation-5-games&captions=true"] The other options also include “Difficulty” so you can preset

Insomniac Details Accessibility Features In Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Insomniac Games has detailed some of the major accessibility features coming to Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The news arrives in the form of a detailed Twitter thread , in which Insomniac ran through a number of important accessibility options including the ability to auto-complete QTEs, change button taps to button holds and remap controls. Players will also be able to enable assist features for the game's chase sequences and increase the auto-aim and dodge window in combat. Accessibility is something that is very important to Insomniac Games, @PlayStation & @MarvelGames . The Medium Delayed to January 2021

The Medium has been delayed to January 28, 2021, due to COVID-19 and, most likely, Cyberpunk 2077's new release date. The game was originally due to be released on Xbox Series X, S and PC on December 10. Announced on Twitter, the delay is down to COVID-19 related production issues and "the current schedule of other titles on the market". That presumably means Cyberpunk 2077, which was itself delayed to December 10. It's not the first game to push back release due to CD Projekt Red's RPG - we've seen Everspace 2 and the Path of Exile end-game expansion  shift dates explicitly because of Cyberpunk before this. GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 Next-Gen Backwards Compatibility Announced

Rockstar has announced that Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as numerous other older games from the developer, will be backwards compatible on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. The PS4 and Xbox One versions of GTA 5 and RDR 2 will be playable on the new next-gen consoles. Progress can be carried across, either through the use of cloud saves or manual transfer via USB storage or LAN/wi-fi transfer, for campaign save games. Progress in the Online components of GTA and RDR will be carried across via your Rockstar Social Club profile, provided you sign in with the same PSN/Xbox Live account you used previously. PT Reportedly Has PS5 Backwards Compatibility Removed By Konami Before Release

After hope for backwards compatibility , PT appears not to work on PS5 through any means. But strangely, it seems that hasn't always been the case, with Konami reportedly removing compatibility ahead of the new console's launch. As reported by Polygon , the now-iconic horror game teaser for Silent Hills was seemingly playable on PS5 using a file transfer in October. However, after an update, the game can no longer be played on the new console - something IGN Japan has confirmed . Polygon reports that, when contacted for comment, Sony said the change was a "publisher decision", meaning Konami would have specifically blocked the game from being played on new hardware (and effectively making it even harder for the game to be preserved, after it was made non-downloadable on the PS Store ). [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/04/25/how-pt-became-a-modern-urban-legend"] Interestingly, Konami told us in October that it was "testing" its PS4 gam

Godfall Is a Six-Month PS5 Console Exclusive

Godfall is a console exclusive on PS5 for six months after launch, at which point it is free to head to other platforms. Godfall will be available on PC as well as PS5 at launch on November 12, but this news suggests that it may also come to Xbox or other platforms after the timed exclusivity deal is up on May 12, 2021. EA Sports to Release 'Multiple New Franchises' in the Coming Years

EA says its Sports division plans to release "multiple new franchises in the years ahead", adding to its existing portfolio. In the latest EA financials , CEO Andrew Wilson discussed the continuing growth of its FIFA, NHL, Madden and UFC franchises, but added a brief mention of new series, saying, "We also have plans to add to our core EA SPORTS portfolio with multiple new franchises in the years ahead." Wilson didn't go into more detail about those mooted franchises. It may be that he means brand new sports games, more diverse versions of existing EA sports (college football or street soccer, for example), or returns to abandoned franchises –EA Sports has previously made golf, boxing, cricket, and snowboarding games, among others. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/fifa-21-review"] EA clearly has big plans for EA Sports in general, with Wilson explaining that the division will see a "significant expansion that will span new games, more geo

PS5's Activity Cards Explained: Our Pre-Launch Experience

One of PS5’s new UI features comes in the form of Activity Cards, a series of game-specific and more general panels available in the PS5’s Control Center. While we saw some specific-use cases in the PS5 UI reveal, we’ve now had a bit more hands-on time with them in multiple games, and can better explain how they work. Specifically, we can speak about using them in conjunction with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Astro’s Playroom. And of course, you can see more of the PS5’s UI in our full PS5 review . [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/06/playstation-5-review"] PS5 Overall Use No matter what game we’ve played on PS5, some Activity Cards are a constant. A newsfeed card has been apparent whenever pulling up this feature. It has changed somewhat in our pre-launch experience - when Insomniac revealed new videos for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, for example, that took the prominent featured spot on the newsfeed card. As of right now, it’s unclear what

What PS5's Create Button Actually Does

Of the many changes Sony’s new PS5 controller, the DualSense, brings with it is an alteration to the Share button on the DualShock 4, which has let us post clips of Fall Guys wins and Spider-Man photo mode pics for years. But what, if anything, does the Create button actually bring differently to the PlayStation experience? Well, now that we have had time with the PS5, we can share a bit more about what the new button actually does differently, and what has stayed the same. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/first-look-at-the-ps5-ui"] For all its newness, the Create Button actually brings up a rather understated UI - as opposed to the PS4’s Share UI that came in from the side, the Create button temporarily fills the bottom of your screen with a minimal black bar and a few icons. Far more quickly – and with no lag compared to the slow-moving PS4 UI – you're able to share your current screen as a screenshot, capture recent gameplay, or start a recording for future pl

Astro's Playroom PS5 Review

For a free game that comes with the PlayStation 5 , one largely designed just to showcase all the bells and whistles of Sony’s next-gen DualSense controller , Astro’s Playroom is surprisingly fun. It’s not just a great toybox to experience the DualSense’s haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, microphone, and more, it also delivers the best proof-of-concept pack-in I’ve played since Wii Sports. This is a truly joyous homage to PlayStation history, as well as an experimental platformer I can only hope to see turned into a larger experience during the PS5’s lifetime. Developed by Team Asobi, Astro’s Playroom follows in the impressive footsteps of its excellent PSVR exclusive, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission . Much like that adventure crafted its levels and challenges around the concept of viewing a platformer in VR, here Team Asobi has really considered what it means to build one around the DualSense. You could technically play these levels without any of the DualSense’s new functionality, but li

PS5 UI Does Not Have Custom Themes

The PlayStation 5’s UI brings with it a host of changes that evolve what players experienced on the PS4, and while things like Trophies, Account Avatars photos, and more have made the transition, one notable piece of the PS4 UI has not made the next-gen leap - themes. Themes have played a big role in the life of the PS4 as a way of customizing the console’s UI. Both static and dynamic themes have been available by the hundreds for players to purchase or grab for free, some reskinning the icons to a game-specific look, or adding music from your favorite games to your PS4 hub. Other, more static themes just change the look, but still let players add an additional personal touch. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/ps5s-ui-the-5-biggest-gamechangers"] The PS5, as of our pre-launch experience, has no themes. IGN has reached out to Sony about the decision to not have themes for PS5, and whether it’s a feature the company is considering adding back in. We’ll update this stor

How Long Is Astro's Playroom for PS5?

Astro’s Playroom will be a free pack-in for PS5 owners, a chance to test out all the new functionality of the DualSense controller - and have something to play while bigger games and install and download. But given its pack-in nature, and PlayStation not really having as much of a precedent (PS4’s The Playroom was arguably more of a showcase for the additional PS4 camera, and was basically a collection of virtual toys), many may be wondering if Astro’s Playroom is a full game, a minigame suite, or something else. To help answer these questions, here is the experience of some of IGN’s staff about their time with Astro’s Playroom. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/06/astros-playroom-review"] [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jonathon Dornbush, Reviewer and Senior News Editor First off, I’m happy to confirm Astro’s Playroom is a full game, particularly because of one notable inclusion - a Platinum trophy. But whether you’re a trophy hunter, Astro’s Play

PS5 Has 667GB of Usable Storage Space

PlayStation 5 will allow for 667GB of usable storage space on its 825GB SSD. IGN can confirm that the console, when totally emptied (including having deleted pack-in game Astro's Playroom), offers 667GB, meaning 158GB is reserved for the operating system and essential files. With game sizes continuing to grow, that 667GB may not go too far - as an example, the PS5 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War takes up 135GB of SSD space alone (seemingly without installing Warzone). [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/06/playstation-5-review"] You will be able to expand the storage on a PS5 relatively easily by installing off-the-shelf NVMe drives, which can be plugged in by popping off the consoles' removable faceplates. By comparison, Xbox Series X offers 802GB of usable space (from a 1TB drive) and Xbox Series S offers 364GB  (from a 512GB drive). By a very small margin, PS5 does offer the most efficient use of a solid state drive out of the next-gen

PlayStation 5 Review

After a generation of figuratively towering above its rivals with the monstrously successful PlayStation 4, one thing is certain: Sony’s next-generation contender will also loom large over its peers... literally. This thing is massive. However, what the PlayStation 5 lacks in subtlety it more than makes up for in potential, thanks in part to its amazingly fast SSD but mostly to its truly remarkable new controller, the DualSense. While a good deal of what folks are going to be able to squeeze out of 2020’s salvo of shiny new hardware may be bottlenecked to some degree by the screen that they own, the PS5’s unique DualSense democratises a next-gen gaming experience for all, delivering an amazing new level of haptic feedback that really needs to be felt to be believed. How Long Is Spider-Man: Miles Morales?

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales follows up Insomniac’s beloved PS4 exclusive with a new entry on PS4 and PS5 at launch. Only revealed earlier this year, there’s been some confusion and differing discussion around how big a game Miles Morales would be compared to the original, including comparisons to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, a shorter spin-off from the mainline Uncharted series. But how long does it actually take to beat the game? We asked those on the IGN staff that have beaten the game for their experience with how long it took (and don’t worry, there won’t be any story spoilers! ). [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/06/marvels-spider-man-miles-morales-review"] [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jonathon Dornbush, Miles Morales Reviewer, Senior News Editor I would put my time with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ story somewhere in the 8 - 10 hour range.
