The Last of Us HBO Show: Season 1 Will Cover the First Game

The Last of Us on HBO will directly lift dialogue from the original game, says executive producer Neil Druckmann, but will see some episodes “deviate greatly” from the events we’ve played previously. The Last of Us is the first of several planned PlayStation adaptations into film and television , and with both Ellie and Joel’s roles cast , one of the biggest questions remains how closely will the HBO series adhere to the original’s story. Speaking to IGN during SXSW 2021, The Last of Us game director and show executive producer Neil Druckmann, spoke about his and showrunner Craig Mazin’s approach to adapting the acclaimed original game. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/03/20/the-last-of-us-hbo-series-will-cover-the-first-game"] “We talked at length [that season 1 of the show is going to be [the first game],” Druckmann explained, noting that for him and Mazin, “the philosophical underpinnings of the story” were the essential thing to get right about the adaptatio...

Now that things are "calming down since launch," Iron Gate is able to spend more time focusing on Hearth and Home. While not much is known about this new update, Valheim's lead artist did share a small sneak peak, which you can see below; Hearth and Home is said to "focus on the house building aspect of the game" and will provide "more building pieces and stuff to do in and around the house." This is one of the many planned updates that Iron Gate has planned for Valheim's 2021. Speaking of sales, Valheim has reached this impressive six million milestone in just a little over six weeks since its launch. Although it is already a huge success, the game is still in Early Access and the team is hard at work at fixing high priority bugs and many of the problems that have been reporte...

Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Wrath of the Druids Release Date Announced

Fall Guys: Squads Mode Adds a Whole New Team Element to the Game

Fall Guys Season 4 is introducing Squads mode, a new way of playing the game with a 4-player team who win (and probably more often lose) together. Initially available for two weeks to judge player reaction, Squads mode will bring together 15 teams (which can be put together manually, or matchmade), and will include almost all of the game's existing events - although they'll be scored differently to their normal versions. "The crucial difference between Squads Mode and normal Fall Guys," explains lead game designer Joe Walsh, "is that being eliminated does not completely eliminate you from the game. You only get eliminated if your entire Squad perform poorly on any given Round. We've all been in that situation where our teammate gets eliminated in the first Round and they have to sit there and watch you compete. And there's this pressure to be like 'Well, maybe we should all just back out and go to the main menu and have another go.' This allows yo...

Devotion Developer Red Candle Games Teases Its Next Game

Devotion developer Red Candle Games is teasing its next project, and it appears to be a non-horror, stylish 2D action title. Red Candle Games shared a short video of its new project on Twitter, and it doesn't seem to be a horror game like the studio's previous games, Devotion and Detention. Work in progress pic.twitter.com/yPiNIWEOv6 — redcandlegames (@redcandlegames) March 19, 2021 Devotion was in the news recently as it was finally made available after being delisted for more than two years following the controversy that occurred when users found an in-game Winnie the Pooh meme mocking Chinese President Xi Jinping. In 2020, Devotion was set to return via CD Projekt's GOG distribution platform, but GOG posted a message later that day saying, "after receiving many messages from gamers, we have decided not to list the game in our store." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/02/26/devotion-review"] Red Candle Games took matters into its own ...

Control Developer Says Sony Was 'a Bit More Ready' for Next-Gen Than Microsoft

Developing games for next-gen consoles is challenging, especially if you're simultaneously developing them for current-gen, as Control developer Remedy was . But the PS5 and the Xbox Series consoles were not equally challenging to develop for, according to Remedy's Thomas Puha. On Next-Gen Console Watch, Puha said that Sony was "a bit more ready" with its PS5 early tools for developers, and said that it was easier initially to get games like Control working on the PS5 than it was for the Xbox Series X and S. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/03/19/why-ps5-series-x-games-have-yet-to-blow-us-away-next-gen-console-watch"] He did go on to say that both machines were still great to make games for, and while they're both still working out system-level issues, this is normal for new hardware and things will ultimately get better with time. "Sony stuck what worked, their development software and tools were pretty stable and good pretty early on...

Control Developer: Making Games For Two Generations of Consoles at Once "Sucks"

Turns out, making games is hard. Who knew? And it gets way, way harder when you have to make a game function on two completely different generations of consoles at once, according to Control developer Remedy's communications director Thomas Puha. On Next-Gen Console Watch, Puha outlined the struggles developers go through to bring games like Control from one generation to the next, especially when the studio doing the work is a smaller one with fewer resources (like Remedy). [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/03/19/why-ps5-series-x-games-have-yet-to-blow-us-away-next-gen-console-watch"] "Whenever you're in this cross-generational point, to be blunt, it sucks," Puha said. "You have to support the previous gen, make sure that sings, and then whatever you bring to next-gen is still limited by the choices you made years ago for the previous generation. It's not a very realistic thing, that this old game, we're just going to remake everyt...

Every Game Delay Announced in 2021 (So Far)

Game delays became more prevalent in 2020 due to the spread of COVID-19, as studios adjusted to the logistical challenges and limitations of working from home. And with the pandemic still affecting how studios operate for the foreseeable future, that trend will likely continue throughout 2021. To track the pandemic’s continued impact on game development, we’ve compiled a list of every game and notable DLC delay announced this year (so far). This article will be updated as more release dates and windows are inevitably pushed, but for now, these are all 16 delays announced in 2021. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-game-delay-announced-in-2021&captions=true"] Outriders Delayed from February 2 to April 1, 2021 Developer People Can Fly announced the delay in early January, saying, “We have decided to move the release date of Outriders to April 1st 2021 (no joke!). Six Days in Fallujah is Complicated and Painful For Those Connected to the Real Events

The Second Battle of Fallujah, which took place in 2004 during the Iraq War, resulted in the deaths of an unknown number of Iraqi civilians -- at the time estimated around 800 but likely many more -- as well as over 100 US and British troops. The battle was violent, tragic, and has been extremely controversial, in no small part due to the US’s motivations for being in Iraq at all, most notably around the now thoroughly discredited rationale of “weapons of mass destruction." But in particular, the Second Battle of Fallujah was criticized for numerous civilian casualties, as well as the US military's attested use of white phosphorus against civilians and other alleged violent acts by the military forces against non-combatants. Though the US military has denied violence against civilians, numerous accounts appear to contradict their claims [Warning: Link includes graphic content]. Nearly two decades later, there's a video game being made about the battle, and a number o...

Cyberpunk 2077: Patch 1.2 Set To Fix Police Response Times and Driving Issues

CD Projekt Red has revealed a handful of changes that it will implement as part of the currently undated patch 1.2 for Cyberpunk 2077. Its most notable feature is a change to how police respond to crimes, but there are also adjustments to driving and movement controls promised. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/03/19/cyberpunk-2077-whats-new-in-night-city-patch-12-part-1-trailer"] In a new development insight post on the Cyberpunk 2077 website, CDPR explains that patch 1.2 will adjust the time taken for police NPCs to respond to reported crimes. Previously, the police would very quickly spawn in behind players and begin reacting to the situation, which broke immersion as there was no sense of the police having to make their way to the scene. It also meant fleeing the scene before cops could arrive was difficult. A delay on the police’s arrival, plus a new recon drone that assesses the situation ahead of the police turning up, should make this feel more realistic...

Marvel's Avengers Fans Impressed By PS5 Loading Times, But Not PS5 Upgrades

Marvel's Avengers received its next-gen versions yesterday, bringing upgraded versions of the game to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The PS5 version in particular has received praise and condemnation since that release, with loading times seemingly drastically reduced, but a convoluted upgrade process to go with it. As Digital Foundry  points out, the PS4 Pro version of the game takes around 62 seconds to load one of the game's chapters, with the PS5 managing the same feat in just 4 seconds. The game's community is impressed, with one of the top-rated posts on the game subreddit at time of writing titled, "I know that everyone is talking the Roadmap and Hawkeye, but seriously bro, I'm losing it over the PS5 load times bro". Fans in the comments are reacting very well to an explanatory video attached to that post (which shows a player booting all the way from the PS5 home screen to playing the game in around 34 seconds), with PC players commenting that even their h...

Gotham Knights has been delayed until 2022. WB Games. Montreal’s co-op Batman game was originally meant to be released sometime this year, but that will no longer be the case. According to a statement released on the official Gotham Knights Twitter account, the team says the title will launch worldwide in 2022. WB says the delay is so the team can have “more time to deliver the best possible experience for players.” This is the latest in a series of new game delays announced in 2021. pic.twitter.com/O1U4T0gK3u — Gotham Knights (@GothamKnights) March 19, 2021 Gotham Knights is a co-op take on the open-world Batman action game. Players can choose to play as either Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood, each of whom has their own playstyle . The reason why players will be taking on one of Batman's trusty allies rather than the dark knight himself is because in Gotham Knights Bat...
