How to Play the Wolfenstein Games in Chronological Order

Whether it’s id Software’s iconic rendition of Castle Wolfenstein or MachineGames' modern reinvention of the series, the Wolfenstein franchise has long been one of gaming’s most influential shooters. The series has cemented itself a defining action staple that helped forge the FPS genre as we know it today. Its world and story have evolved dramatically over the years too. From battling “Mecha-Hitler” in the dungeons of Wolfenstein 3D to holding off hordes of zombified mutants in Return to Castle Wolfenstein, the franchise has strayed far from its humble beginnings as a World War 2 stealth-action game, veering into high-concept sci-fi and even the occult. For those wondering how each entry in the series fits together, we’ve got you covered. Below, we’ll list all of the Wolfenstein entries in chronological order, so newcomers won't miss a single piece of BJ Blazkowicz’s story. June’s IGN First is focused on Final Fantasy 16. With less than a week until the game finally makes its way to the PS5 on June 22, it is time for our final Final Fantasy XVI exclusive. It might sound like we’re getting ahead of ourselves, but we asked the game’s developers to talk us through New Game Plus, where the higher difficulty Final Fantasy Mode offers returning players a whole new challenge. In our exclusive gameplay video (see it above), Director Hiroshi Takai and Combat Director Ryota Suzuki explain how the enemies you fight will change on your second playthrough. “On your first playthrough, you can choose between the Action Focused mode and the Story Focused mode,” explains Takai. “After you beat the game in either of these modes, New Game Plus unlocks, and you can carry protagonist Clive’s level, gear and abilities over to your next playthrough. Dog Actor Who Played Cain in Red Dead Redemption 2 Has Passed Away

The dog actor Einstein, whose motion capture performance was responsible for bringing to life companion Cain from Rockstar Studios' Red Dead Redemption 2 , has passed away. “Einstein was truly one of a kind. From the moment we met, we formed a deep bond, and it was clear that we were destined for countless adventures together,” wrote Einstein’s owner Jason Barnes in a touching Instagram tribute announcing his friend’s passing. “You possessed an uncanny intelligence, earning you the name Einstein; even if, at times, the name felt like a joke.” Players are introduced to Cain in Red Dead Redemption 2 soon after the Van der Linde gang sets up camp at Clemens Point, at which point the former stray wanders his way into the motly gathering. In a brief cutscene, Dutch allows John Marston’s son Jack to keep the dog, who later goes missing under mysterious and unpleasant circumstances after the gang moves their camp to Beaver Hollow. Rest in peace to the goodest boah Einstein, motion ...

Diablo 4 Streamer Rages After 172-Hour Hardcore Character Dies During Loading Screen

A Diablo 4 player flew into a rage after his 172-hour, level 91 Hardcore character died during a loading screen. New Zealand-based streamer Quin69 uploaded a video to YouTube of the moment he saw the dreaded Hall of Fallen Heroes on-screen message after Diablo 4 appeared to crash while teleporting his character to the town of Kyovashad following the completion of a dungeon. The only option open to Quin69 is to click "acknowledge." “I finished the f**king keystone and portaled to town,” Quin69 said as realisation set in. “In the loading screen of me porting to town my character has died.” What appears to have happened is Quin69’s character, which was standing inside a protection bubble during the portal to town, somehow died to an innocuous attack from a nearby floating device. This shouldn't happen, of course. As Diablo 4 streamer Octavian ‘Kripparrian’ Morosan suggests in the video, the port to town loading may have made Quin69's vulnerable to the attack while ...

Starfield Interview: Todd Howard Answers All of Our Questions After the Xbox Games Showcase

At IGN Summer of Gaming, we were able to sit down with Starfield director Todd Howard for an exclusive interview about the upcoming Bethesda RPG. After years of rumors, teases, speculation, and a high-profile delay, Bethesda is finally ready to launch Starfield into the stratosphere on September 6, 2023 . Howard visited IGN and Ryan McCaffrey after the Xbox Showcase and Starfield Direct to go in-depth on what was announced and to try and explain the sheer breadth of all that was revealed during the show. During the interview he discussed its delay, its performance on Xbox, the surprising influence of Red Dead Redemption 2, and much more. "[W]e have put so much into this game, and it is, as you said, our first new IP in over 25 years," Howard said. "It's our first major release in about eight years. So for us, we have just put so much into it that we're just doing everything we can to make the best game that we can. Hope that everybody loves it. Howard's...

Diablo 4 Players Are Hunting for a Secret Cow Level Blizzard Insists Doesnt Exist

All Diablo games have a secret cow level, right? According to Blizzard, Diablo 4 doesn’t, yet. But that hasn’t stopped players from joining forces in an attempt to uncover the mythical space. In the run up to Diablo 4’s record-breaking launch , development chief Rod Fergusson insisted the action role-playing game does not include a secret cow level, or any secret level for that matter, because Blizzard wanted to keep the tone and feel “grounded”. "We've been really focused on trying to keep it as grounded as possible," Fergusson told Kinda Funny Games . "And because of that, there's no secret level in Diablo 4 that people might be looking for." Now Diablo 4’s out in the wild, it seems an entire chunk of the playerbase simply refuses to believe Blizzard. It's deliberately misleading players, they insist, trying to throw them off the scent. That’ll keep the secret cow level a secret for longer and make its eventual discovery more of a surprise. Who ca...

Starfield 30fps Debate Has People Talking About Virtual Sandwiches

As IGN exclusively revealed during Summer of Gaming , hotly-anticipated space epic Starfield runs at 30 frames per second on Xbox Series X and S. The news sparked a vociferous debate about the performance of Bethesda Game Studios’ next big title, and challenged the expectation from some that big first-party games should run at 60fps on Xbox Series X no matter what. But why does Starfield run at 30fps? In an interview with IGN, BGS boss Todd Howard said the development team decided to lock Starfield at 30fps on console to ensure “consistency” of performance. “I think it'll come as no surprise, given our previous games, what we go for,” Howard said. “Always these huge, open worlds, fully dynamic, hyper detail where anything can happen. And we do want to do that. It's 4K in the X. It's 1440 on the S. We do lock it at 30, because we want that fidelity, we want all that stuff. We don't want to sacrifice any of it. “Fortunately in this one, we've got it running great...
