D&D: Icons of the Realms Tabletop Miniatures (2021 Series) Review Impressions

While the return to in-person TRPG sessions may be taking longer than many of us would like, there are still plenty of great accessories being produced for both Dungeon/Game Masters and the players at their table. If your group uses miniatures, odds are you’ve at least eyeballed some of the pre-painted figures available, in lieu of spending the considerable time and effort it takes to assemble and paint custom minis. If your table plays D&D, this would be WizKids’ Icons of the Realms series - a collection inspired by adventures and stories set in the default Forgotten Realms setting. The sets aren’t limited to just FR games, of course, as plenty of monsters appear in other official realms and the only real limit of these creatures and characters is your own imagination. That said, there’s a lot to consider when weighing the decision to invest in a collection of tabletop miniatures, and while the WizKids series mostly delivers on many fronts, there are also some drawbacks to t...

Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker Expansion Delayed By Two Weeks, Launch Trailer Released

Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker has been delayed by two weeks and will now be released on December 7, 2021. To help with the wait, the team also released the expansion's launch trailer. The news was announced by FF14's producer and director Naoki Yoshida, who wrote a letter to the fans explaining the decision and apologizing for the delay. "There are several reasons for the postponement, but as I’m the one overseeing all aspects of the title as the head of the project, the responsibility falls solely on me," Yoshida wrote. "Allow me to convey my sincerest apologies to our players, our Warriors of Light around the world who have been looking so forward to the release of Endwalker. I am truly sorry." As we previously mentioned, Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker will now launch on December 7, while the expansion's early access period will begin on December 3. There will also be two scheduled patches - Patch 6.01 and 6.05 - that will be released on December 21,...

Mass Effect 3 Legendary Edition Review

Having finished Mass Effect 3 Legendary Edition, it’s hard to fathom why this excellent action role-playing game was quite so controversial when it came out in 2012. Granted, the endings were revised to be both clearer and a bit more nuanced since – and they still aren’t all that good. But the bulk of its 50+ hours are the same, and on the whole it’s as much of a gut-punching, head-scratching continuation of the trilogy as ever. Is it the best Mass Effect? No, not quite – as I said the first time I played it, Mass Effect has followed the same pattern as Star Wars: the original trilogy’s second episode was the high point and the third. While still very strong and visually impressive, didn’t quite stack up (and everything after was questionable at best). Its final moments may not quite stick the landing, but just about everything up to that point is stellar. As far as the remastering goes, Mass Effect 3 Legendary Edition has seen the fewest changes of the Legendary trilogy. It looks r...

Animal Crossing Happy Home Paradise DLC Players Warned Of Remodel Bug

"Don't remodel your neighbors' houses when the airport is open" sounds like one of those bizarre, antiquated laws that was put on the books for a very specific reason a hundred years ago and was then forgotten about, but right now it's a very real rule you should follow in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. A tweet from the official Nintendo UK account warns players not to go to resident services and request to model a neighbor's home while the airport gates are open, lest they experience unintended "gameplay bugs." The same tweet was made by the official Nintendo of Australia and New Zealand account, though notably Nintendo of America hasn't said anything about it yet. #AnimalCrossingNewHorizons players who own the Happy Home Paradise DLC may experience gameplay bugs if they visit Resident Services and ask to remodel a resident’s home while the gates at their airport are open. The Retro And Cryptocurrency Booms Intersected In One Wild Pinball Auction

I can't explain how Jim Blasko made his money. His Facebook page proudly touts that he once spent 50 Bitcoin on a canary yellow Lamborghini. That same car is emblazoned across his Facebook header image, complete with three models in black negligee emerging out of the doors somewhere in the Nevada desert. Blasko is a crypto guy, and crypto guys, in my experience, are famously ambiguous when it comes to their wealth and influence. What I do know is that Blasko purchased 37 machines at September's Museum of Pinball auction in Banning, California. He topped out at an $8,000 purchase of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pinball machine, and claims to have had a huge bid in for Computer Space — widely regarded as the first commercial video arcade machine ever made — before getting out-maneuvered by another patron. "I may have missed out on it," says Blasko. "That piece might be worth $100,000 in a couple of years." The arcade collecting community was anticipatin...

Halo Infinite Multiplayer Battle Pass Plans Revealed - IGN First

Image
The play for attention in the live game space, let alone the competitive shooter space, has only gotten more competitive with each console release and gaming trend. With Halo Infinite, developer 343 Industries is attempting to make its multiplayer more attractive to stick with for the long haul while delivering what could be considered a consumer-first business model through its flexible battle pass system and emphasis on player feedback. IGN sat down with Halo Infinite's Head of Design Jerry Hook and Lead Progression Designer Chris Blohm to discuss how Halo Infinite's approach to free-to-play is different from others on the market and how they hope to keep players of all kinds returning to the storied FPS. Halo Infinite's Battle Pass Plan Hook and Blohm know we play other games — as Blohm said, it'd be "ludicrous to think otherwise." With this and the understanding that some battle passes can encourage unhealthy player habits, they decided Halo Infinite...

Nintendo Isn't Ruling Out Acquiring Companies, But Will Prioritise Investing In Its Existing Studios

Nintendo has said that it won't rule out acquiring new companies in the future, but has stated that it is currently prioritizing investment in its existing studios. As part of a recently published Company Management briefing , Nintendo spoke about its investment strategies going forward and how it will look to spend in the future. The publisher noted that due to the success of the Nintendo Switch exceeding its expectations across the last few years, it has been left in a position where it is able to "reconsider how to most effectively utilize [its] cash in a variety of strategic and meaningful ways". With money to invest, the company says that its mid-to-long term plan revolves around two broad areas: building software assets and developing ways to expand its relationships with consumers. Where those software assets include games, Nintendo has stated that its "first priority is to organically expand [its] own organization to continue Nintendo's creative cult...

Forza Horizon 5 Will Add an On-Screen Sign Language Interpreter

Image
Forza Horizon 5 contains a ton of wonderful accessibility features to help make the game as inclusive as possible, and a post-launch update will add another great one - an on-screen sign language interpreter that will sign either American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL) during the game's cinematics. As detailed in an Xbox Wire blogpost and an accompanying video about Forza Horizon 5's accessibility features, the interpreter will appear in a picture-in-picture display near the bottom of the screen and either ASL or BSL can be chosen depending on the player's preference. This is a great addition to Forza Horizon 5, a game that we gave a rare 10/10 to and said is "the result of a racing studio at the peak of its craft and the best open-world racing game available." It is also one of the few games to feature sign language in such a prominent way. There have been games like Oculus Quest and PlayStation VR's Moss that saw its main char...

Nintendo Promises to 'Improve and Expand' the Switch Online Service

Nintendo has said that it will continue to improve and expand on its Switch Online service as well as its recently released premium Expansion Pack – possibly in response to the poor reception to its pricing and recent additions. As part of its latest Corporate Management Briefing , Nintendo has stated that it will "continue to improve and expand both Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack" in order to provide services that satisfy its fanbase. The pledge to improve comes shortly after the company experienced a rocky start to the launch of its premium Expansion Pack subscription service . The service, which launched last month, adds a new membership tier to Nintendo Switch Online that gives players access to an expanding catalog of Nintendo 64 and Sega Mega Drive games, as well as paid DLC (currently in the form of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Happy Home Paradise pack). However, following its release Nintendo received backlash from som...

Nintendo Is Still Discussing What Its Next Console After the Switch Might Be

Nintendo will seemingly be sticking with the Switch for several years yet, with internal discussions for a next-generation console still taking place around a release window, and even what its concept will be. As you'd expect, Nintendo does plan to one day replace the Switch with a new gaming system, with the company's latest financial presentation making clear that new hardware was part of its wider plans to expand the business (alongside expanding IP, and adding services to the Nintendo Account system). However, the presentation only gave a date of '20XX' for that hardware's release. During a financial results Q&A – as attended, translated, and reported by analyst David Gibson – Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa was asked what he could say about the next-gen device. Furukawa was clear that he could say very little, and it seems even what the next console will be is still up for debate within the company. "On next gen, we are not saying right now,...

The Update That Makes eFootball a Full Game Has Been Delayed to 2022

Konami has delayed the 1.0.0 update for eFootball from November 10 until Spring 2022 – effectively pushing back the launch of the full version of the game. Announced on the eFootball website , the developer says that it "concluded that more time is needed to deliver the product in the quality that will meet the expectations of our users and have decided to postpone the delivery." The current version of eFootball has been described by Konami as "basically a demo" , with 1.0.0 set to add the game's Creative Teams mode , multiple new ways to play (including normal online matches), new player types, microtransactions and more. That update was also set to add mobile versions of the game, but Konami now says it will "announce details of further updates and schedule for the mobile version later." Effectively, the launch of the intended, full version of eFootball has been pushed back – another difficult moment in what has been a truly disastrous launch . ...
