Hitman 3 - Cloud Version Coming to Nintendo Switch This Month

Hitman 3 - Cloud Version for Nintendo Switch will be released on January 20, 2021 - the same day as PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia. Announced on Twitter by IO Interactive, Hitman 3 - Cloud Version is the exact same version as the other platforms, but is a cloud-based version that requires a persistent internet connection to play. Hitman 3 - Cloud Version was revealed at the Nintendo Direct Mini in October 2020 and follows Control's Cloud Version that was released following that same Nintendo Direct Mini. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/28/hitman-3-nintendo-switch-announcement"] Ahead of its release, we were able to get one final preview of Hitman 3, in which we said "Hitman 3’s sandbox is vast and filled with many toys. Sure, it still has some cheesy dialogue and voice acting, as well as some goofy animations, but overall I’m extremely impressed by what I’ve played so far." Hitman 3 is the end of the trilogy that

Cyberpunk 2077: CD Projekt Responds to Report About Fake E3 Demo and More

Adam Badowski, the studio head of CD Projekt Red, has responded to a recent report regarding Cyberpunk 2077's alleged fake E3 demo and development issues. Badowski took to Twitter to respond to certain points of a report by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier about Cyberpunk 2077, and first addressed the claim that the E3 demo was "entirely fake." "It's hard for a trade show game demo not to be a test of vision or vertical slice two years before the game ships, but that doesn't mean it's fake," Badowski wrote. "Compare the demo with the game. Look at the Dumdum scene or car chase, or the many other things. What the people reading your article may not know is that games are not made in a linear fashion and start looking like the final product only a few months before launch. If you look at that demo now, it's different yes, but that's what the 'work in progress' watermark is for. Our final game looks and plays way better than what t

Cyberpunk 2077 Developers Did Not Believe It Was Ready for Launch in 2020

Cyberpunk 2077 was 2020’s hottest game, and it was shaping up to be a good enough launch when reviews for the PC version began trickling out a few days before its December 12 release date. But once players got their hands on Cyberpunk 2077, especially the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, excitement turned into frustration as players encountered bugs, glitches, and more. In a report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier , developers at CD Projekt Red knew the game was not ready for launch in 2020. According to one developer, "they expected the game to be ready in 2022," based on the progress the team was making back in 2019. Beyond just bugs and glitches, Cyberpunk 2077’s overall performance and playability on consoles like the base PS4 and Xbox One have been reviled. IGN gave the console versions of Cyberpunk 2077, specifically, a four in its review . This news comes by way of  The Hollywood Reporter that states Kolstad is penning the series for Paramount and Hasbro's entertainment studio, eOne, which is the same studio developing a Dungeons & Dragons movie starring Chris Pine . Kolstad's series isn't the only series in the works as eONe is already working with and looking for more writers to pen multiple projects set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe, according to the report. The Last of Us HBO TV Series Gets a New Director

HBO’s The Last of Us Series officially has a new director. The Oscar-nominated  Beanpole director Kantemir Balagov will direct the adaptation of Naughty Dog’s hit post-apocalyptic adventure game, according to The Hollywood Reporter . Beanpole, a drama focused on two women in post-WWII Leningrad, was selected as Russia’s entry for Best International Feature Film for the 92nd Academy Awards in 2019, but ultimately lost to South Korea’s Parasite. Beanpole earned Balagov the Cannes Film Festival’s best director award in 2019. Balagov also directed 2017’s drama Closeness, a drama centering on a kidnapping of a young couple and the subsequent ransoming. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/14/tom-holland-says-uncharted-has-a-solution-to-the-video-game-movie-problem"] Balagov’s somber aesthetic is likely a factor in HBO’s decision to hire him, likely ensuring a dark tone congruent with the original game’s harrowing tale, and likely pairs well with writer and executi

Rust Guide: How to Play With Friends Online

Like a lot of online games, Rust is much better with friends, but unlike a lot of online games, it’s not straightforward to find them. That said, there are a few ways to make sure you’ll always find your friends in the game. How to Play Rust With Friends First off, you need to make sure you’re all on the same server. To do this, one of you will need to join first, and let your friends know which server to search for. Once you’re all on the same server, you need to craft a sleeping bag. To do this, you’ll need to find hemp and/or kill animals until you have the 30 cloth required to craft it. Whoever gets the sleeping bag first should assign it to a friend by holding E on the bag, then choosing "Give To A Friend" in the menu that comes up. Either click on your friend’s name or type it in. The friend then needs to choose to "Respawn In Sleeping Bag", which will bring them close to you. If you have multiple friends playing, you just need to keep reassigning the sleepin

An original Pokémon Trading Card Game Booster Box has sold at auction for a record-breaking $408,000. The shrink-wrapped booster box, a First Edition Base Set from the original 1999 launch, sold at a Heritage Auctions event in Dallas, Texas this past Thursday. The box includes 102 base cards, including the similarly rare original Charizard card, copies of which have recently sold for anywhere between $150,000 to $220,000. The First Edition Base Set is increasingly rare thanks to its limited printing. The box also contains 36 booster packs, each with 11 cards, for a grand total of 396 cards, all of which are likely gem mint condition thanks to its shrinkwrap. Nintendo Switch Pro: Analysts Conflicted on a 2021 Release

It’s a new year, and a new cycle of game announcements are on the horizon – and many think one of the biggest will be the release of an updated Switch model, the Switch Pro. With rumors continuing to swirl, IGN asked several industry analysts for their predictions on this. The Nintendo Switch is approaching its fourth year in production, but rumors of multiple Switch upgrades have dogged Nintendo since at least 2019 when multiple reports claimed Nintendo is working on new, upgraded Switch models beyond the base unit and the Switch Lite . The Wall Street Journal reported in 2019 that Nintendo had plans for further Switch updates to keep the life cycle of the system long, and supply chains have suggested there are plans for “improved” models with better features and screens This doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a “Switch Pro” – after all, Nintendo has already released an updated Switch SKU with longer battery life , but similar components and features as the base model. Elden Ring Trailer Artist Posts Concept Art, Says There's No Hidden Meaning, Elden Ring Community Goes Wild Anyway

Image
An artist that worked on the Elden Ring teaser trailer has posted concept art made for it – and made very clear that he has no intimate knowledge of the game. Of course, this being Elden Ring, the community has gone wild with delight nonetheless. It's been genuinely lovely. Posted on his Artstation account , Gabriel Björk Stiernström showed off several concept pieces, along with observations about why they weren't eventually used in the game's E3 announcement trailer . On the Elden Ring subreddit , Stiernström posted a statement to contextualise the work – and cool any speculation about potential new details hidden in the art. He ends that statement by saying, "You can read into the concept art as much as you like, but I really have no knowledge of the game." The images include various takes on the hammering scene we see in the trailer – including a version of the scene covered in tree roots that was described as "too much Dark Souls" – different takes o

Persona 5 Strikers: Why We Love its New Combat System

Persona 5 Strikers may be the closest thing to a Persona 5-2 we will ever get, and though the Koei Tecmo co-developed follow-up eschews the turn-based battles of the acclaimed original RPG for something more akin to the Dynasty Warriors series, my experience with the opening hours of Strikers promises a worthy follow-up for the Phantom Thieves of Hearts. It’s one that retains all the style, character, and deep lore of the original that has this returning fan thrilled to see more adventures of Joker, Morgana, and the gang, even as I grapple with just how many new options the real-time action throws your way right from the start. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=persona-5-strikers-screenshots&captions=true"] As a returning fan, so much of the thrill of Strikers is getting to experience an all-new story with the returning cast, so rather than focus on the story beats of the opening six or so hours I played in Shibuya, I’ll limit myse

Nintendo Switch: 2020 Sees the Second-Highest Annual Dollar Sales in US Console History

Nintendo Switch was the number one console in the US in 2020, for both units sold and dollars made – and had the second-best year for dollar sales in US console history, only trailing the Wii's spectacular 2008. The NPD's Mat Piscatella revealed the facts on Twitter , as part of a breakdown of December 2020 video game sales. During last month, spending across hardware, content and accessories hit $7.7 billion – a 25% rise, year-on-year – with $1.35 billion of that coming from hardware. Piscatella revealed that Switch was the best seller in both units sold and money made during that month, capping off an incredible year for the Nintendo handheld, which gives it the second-highest yearly dollar sales in US history. US NPD HW - Nintendo Switch was the best-selling hardware platform in units and dollars for both December and the 2020 year. Annual dollar sales of Switch hardware were the 2nd highest for a platform in U.S. history. Only the 2008 dollar sales of Nintendo Wii were hig

Battle.net Has Had a Major Overhaul for the First Time in 8 Years

Image
Blizzard has given its game launcher, Battle.Net, a new visual design, marking its first major overhaul in eight years. It’s available now for some players in North America, and will be gradually rolled out to other users over the coming weeks. The new design repositions games from the left-hand sidebar to a row of icons across the top of the window, allowing for more space to be taken up by the game page, which features the latest news and updates on the relevant title. The friends and social bar has also been permanently affixed to the right hand side of the window, rather than being a separate app that opens akin to Steam’s friends list. Interestingly, Blizzard’s screenshot of the new ‘Battle.net 2.0’ interface shows the blue Battle.net logo in the upper left corner of the window. Back in 2017, Blizzard renamed Battle.net to Blizzard App, and replaced the logo with the Blizzard logo. Just months later the company did a bit of a U-turn on the name and rebranded the launcher as Blizza

A Way Out's Josef Fares on Why He's Making Games in a Genre He Had to Invent

Amid the games industry’s constant push-pull between contained single-player stories and sprawling multiplayer experiences, Josef Fares and his studio Hazelight keep making things that sit somewhere in the middle. 2018’s A Way Out, and 2021’s It Takes Two are both well-presented, start-to-finish stories built around set protagonists, just like the titans of the single-player world. But they can also only be played in co-op (whether in-person or online), enforcing some of the competitive camaraderie of multiplayer onto that familiar structure, and adding new challenges and ideas that single player games simply can't. Fares has, in effect, created a new genre of game to work within - narrative co-op adventures might be a suitable name. A Way Out was his first true tilt at the idea, but you can see the first sketches of that approach in Fares' first game, too – the wonderful Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons was effectively a co-op game designed to be played by a single person , or by

Bungie's Halo Player Files Archive Is Going Offline Next Month

Bungie has announced that it will close its Halo archive in February, which will mean player stats, screenshots, and files from the developer’s Halo games will be gone forever. Detailed as part of the studio’s weekly update blog post , Bungie explained that on February 9 the halo.bungie.net website will be taken offline permanently. Player stats, files, and screenshots from Halo 2, Halo 3, ODST, and Reach are currently stored on the website, although those archives have not been updated in almost nine years. For the best part of a decade, the website has effectively been in stasis, acting as a memorial for Bungie’s pre-Destiny years. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2016/07/07/bungie-25-years-in-25-seconds"] Players now have until February 9 to save their stats and files, should they wish. Bungie notes that this only applies to player data; news articles, forums, and groups from the Halo-era were imported into the current Bungie.net website in 2013, and so will remai

Why Diablo Immortal's Alpha Was a Hell of a Good Time

Image
Ah, Sanctuary. It’s good to be back. Adventuring through Diablo’s bleak, harrowing and evil-infested world in the recent alpha was just the respite I needed from our own bleak, harrowing and evil-infested world. Anyway, after spending a dozen or so hours with it, I can report that Diablo Immortal is absolutely a game to be hyped about. It’s great – a proper new entry in the series, and not – as some feared - a watered down mobile lookalike. Not only that, but while Diablo Immortal may be a free-to-play game, there are no gameplay roadblocks tied into that; you can play every class, take on every mission, find every piece of loot and max out all your characters without spending a cent. I felt no impetus to spend at any point during my time with it.[poilib element="quoteBox" parameters="excerpt=Diablo%20Immortal%20is%20a%20proper%20new%20entry%20in%20the%20series%2C%20and%20not%20a%20watered%20down%20mobile%20lookalike."] With that out of the way, here are some of th
