Destiny 2 Players Are Gathering In the Tower to Honor Lance Reddick

Image
Destiny 2 players have been gathering en masse at the Tower to honor the late Lance Reddick, who passed away yesterday at the age of 60 . After the news broke yesterday, Guardians began flocking to Commander Zavala, who Reddick famously voiced, to pay their respects. News traveled quickly in the Destiny community as Reddick was not only an avid fan of Destiny , but would occasionally engage with players on social media as Commander Zavala . Although it's a bit quieter in the Tower today, just about every instance had Guardians standing stoically in a circle around Zavala yesterday using the "Humanity's Sheild" emote to signify his character's larger-than-life presence, or sitting amongst their fellow Guardians while attending a impromptu candlelight vigil. Over on the /r/DestinyTheGame subreddit, the post honoring Reddick quickly rose to become the 2nd most popular post across all of Reddit, with plenty of community members and former Bungie developers sha

Magic: The Gathering's Most Sought After Card Sells For Record $540,000

A Black Lotus, arguably the most sought after card in Magic: The Gathering, has sold for a record-breaking price of $540,000 at a recent auction. As reported by Polygon , the Black Lotus has been topping its own record each time it's been available for auction. In 2019, a Black Lotus sold for $166,000 on eBay, followed by another purchase just two years later in 2021 for $511,100 — more than triple the price. Now, with the recent auction held by PWCC Marketplace , the Black Lotus cements its position as the most expensive Magic: The Gathering card ever sold. “This record sale reinforces the Alpha Black Lotus as an investment-quality asset, fortifies its claim as a true work of art, and shows exactly how important Magic: The Gathering is to the culture of gaming and trading card games," said Jesse Craig, Vice President of Sales at PWCC Marketplace. "It’s extremely unlikely we see one of these signed copies available for purchase again in the near future. They are cro

Diablo 4 Beta Players Are Experiencing Long Wait Times and Server Issues

Those hoping to get an early start on slaying the queen of Succubi have had to wait longer than anticipated, as many players logged on to the Diablo 4 beta servers today to discover long queue times and error codes preventing them from jumping into the ARPG . Today marks the start of the early access beta available to those who preordered the full game or got a code by eating Kentucky Fried Chicken , while next weekend will host anyone looking to start their adventures early in the open beta. But many players were greeted by long wait times to log into the server, error codes, and other issues . Taking to Twitter while facing wait times of upwards of an hour, players took the opportunity to warn their fellow demon slayers and make light of the situation. Final Fantasy 16's Story Takes 35 Hours to Complete, 70-80 to Do Everything

The developers of Final Fantasy 16 revealed that it will take players roughly 35 hours to beat the game's story and 70-80 hours to do everything else alongside it. In an interview with Famitsu (translated by Twitter user @aitaikimochi ), director Hiroshi Takai and producer Naoki Yoshida said they thought out the play time for Final Fantasy 16's story mode to take into account that gamers have busy lives outside of video games, so they wrote it in a way that allows players to do just the bare minimum if they're too busy to do any side quests. The team aimed for 20 hours at first, but the extra content they put into it brought the story time to 35 hours. "When the game development was just starting out, I had the idea in mind that gamers these days are really busy with other things, so I wanted them to be able to at least aim to complete the story," Yoshida said. "I thought making the game something you can complete in about 20 hours would make sense, but

People Are Freaking Out About KFC's Diablo 4 Beta Codes

Blizzard fans are freaking out about the only current way to access the long-awaited Diablo 4 beta: ordering KFC. As the beta kicks off today, March 17 , hopeful players are taking to the game's Reddit to express their surprise, frustration, and amusement over the KFC beta code promotion. Players could previously preorder Diablo 4 to get a beta code, but this is no longer available now that the beta has begun. Some users are ordering KFC simply for the beta code, with no intentions to eat the chicken sandwich, while some are protesting it altogether. Hyperkin's Xbox 360-Style Controller Gets Release Date on Xbox Series X|S

Hyperkin, the company that makes retro-inspired gaming accessories for modern-day consoles, is at it again. Instead of making an original Xbox controller this time, the company has decided to jump a generation and create an Xbox 360-style controller for the Xbox Series X|S called the Xenon. The Xenon is set to come out on June 6 and will be priced at USD 49.99. You'll be able to buy the controller in black, white, pink, or red. Additionally, the 360-inspired controller will come with precision analog impulse triggers, a view and share button allowing you to take screenshots and record gameplay, vibration feedback, a 3.5 mm headset jack, and a detachable Type-C cable so you can charge/update your controller. The controller was announced last November and is named after the original codename given to the Xbox 360's first console iteration. This isn't the first time Hyperkin has decided to pay homage older Xbox consoles. On its website, you can purchase a Duke wired co

PlayStation Superman Game Reference in Activision Blizzard Case Sparks Confusion

Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard has been confusing global officials for over a year. What's even more confusing is a reference to PlayStation's Superman in a case underway in the U.K. The legal team representing Microsoft referenced a PlayStation Superman game in a document responding to the Competition and Markets Authority's (CMA) provisional findings regarding concerns the company's nearly $70 billion acquisition of the publisher may render Activision Blizzard games exclusive to Xbox should the merger go through... but that reference was most likely a typo. In Section 2.20, where it discusses the impact the merger will have on PlayStation exclusive titles on Xbox console sales, it wrote, "This applies for 'big titles' like God of War and Superman. There has never been evidence that exclusivity of one single franchise can drive console sales." The problem is, a Superman game hasn't been made for the PS5 or PS4. In fact, t

Gladiator Sequel Looking to Cast Barry Keoghan as a Real-Life Historical Figure

Barry Keoghan is in talks to star in the upcoming Gladiator sequel directed by Ridley Scott, and he could be playing a real-life historical figure. According to The Hollywood Reporter , Keoghan might be cast as Emperor Geta, a Roman emperor who ruled from the year 209-211. Although he's playing a real historical figure, the upcoming sequel won't be based on real-world events. It was previously reported that Scott had announced that the script for the Gladiator sequel is complete and has a release date of November 22, 2024. In addition, it was announced that Paul Mescal had been cast as the lead in the upcoming film. Mescal is best known for his work on the Hulu series Normal people and for starring in the acclaimed movie Aftersun. Not much is known about the Gladiator sequel plot other than Mescal will be playing Lucius, the son of Lucilla and nephew to Commodus. The original Gladtior film was released in 2000 and featured Russell Crowe as Maximus and Joaquin Phoenix a

The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR Review

I’m not exactly sure why a developer best known for quiet, choice-filled games that border on interactive movies is so interested in turning them into arcade-style rail shooters, but Supermassive Games is taking another crack at exactly that – this time with the help of the new PlayStation VR2 headset. Like Until Dawn: Rush of Blood before it, The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR focuses less on storytelling and more on action to mixed results. While it’s fun to blast through ghouls and bats in my path, this spinoff is plagued by many of the same issues as its predecessor, including a disappointingly short runtime. Switchback VR’s story feels like an afterthought, putting you in the role of an unnamed protagonist on a hellish rollercoaster ride across ten different stages. Most are locations featured in the first season of The Dark Pictures Anthology, but you’re never really told much about why the protagonist is visiting them or any of the few supporting characters they meet. That’s pa

Fortnite's Unreal Engine 5 Editor Arrives Next Week

Content creators will finally be able to try their hands at the Unreal Engine 5 Editor for Fortnite starting next week. Epic Games already released Unreal Engine 5 to game developers last year , but now the company will be releasing the beta version of Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) to everyone on March 22, according to the DLC's page on its website. The UEFN works a bit like the game editor in Roblox, only it's more advanced because, aside from Fortnite being 3D in the first place, it works in tandem with the pre-existing Fortnite Creative feature, providing teams of creators the ability to work together to create new games and experiences within Fortnite using all the tools at their disposal. This includes the new programming language called Verse to design gameplay, Niagara to create visual effects, Control Rig and Sequencer to animate their custom characters, World Partition to create bigger gameplay experiences (like the virtual concerts we've been seeing as of

Why Hitman Developer IO Interactive Should Be Xbox’s Next Target

Danish developer IO Interactive made a name for itself over two decades ago when it released Hitman: Codename 47, the first in a long line of games starring everyone’s favorite sardonic assassin with a barcode tattooed on the back of his bald head. The series has spawned over half a dozen games, two major motion pictures, and lots of commercial success and critical acclaim. Now, however, with the most recent Hitman game trilogy completed and all folded together under the Hitman: World of Assassination umbrella, IO Interactive is moving on to two other projects: a James Bond 007 game – of which little is known about so far – as well as a new online fantasy-RPG, which looks like it will come after Bond and we know even less about. Hitman, the studio says, is on hiatus for now. All of this preamble is to set up what I’m about to say, and that is this: Microsoft, if it isn’t already, should be taking a long, hard look at IO Interactive as its next potential acquisition target – regard

Disco Elysium Update Adds Fan Art Creation Tool 'Collage Mode'

Image
Developer ZA/UM has announced Collage Mode for Disco Elysium; a photo mode-like addition that allows you to arrange your own scenes and dialogue using the game’s characters and locations. Launching today on PC and coming to consoles in the coming days, Collage Mode can be found on Disco Elysium’s main menu. Unlike a photo mode, it is not a system to take screenshots of moments within the game. Instead, Collage Mode gives you full access to every character, location, and effect used across Disco Elysium’s story, and allows you to create a scene from scratch. Think of it as a fan art tool rather than an in-game camera and you’ll be on the right track. The tool is pretty simple to use, with drag-and-drop controls that allow you to easily place items in the world. Characters can be set in a large variety of poses, and even rescaled to tiny or huge proportions. A collection of stickers, including cute emoji-like faces or items of clothing, can then be layered over the scene. You can al

Lady Gaga, Beyoncé Collaborator Bloodpop Launches Game Studio Featuring 'Ambitious' AAA Shooter

Award-winning music producer Bloodpop who's worked with renowned artists such as Lady Gaga and Beyoncé, has announced Genpop Interactive with the help of former DeNA and Bandai Namco executive Aubrey Tennant. GenPop Interactive is a new studio that will be working on AAA games focusing on "music, fashion, and gaming culture." The studio has more than 25 developers who worked on titles such as Halo Infinite , Cyberpunk 2077 , The Sims, and more. GenPop Interactive's first game will be a third-person shooter featuring "novel movement and combat mechanics." The upcoming shooter will be marketed toward Gen-Z, and CEO and game director Bloodpop said the following about the upcoming game. "Gen-Z is eager for new IP that speaks to them and has a long legacy that defines their generation. Major studios have become complacent, relying on giving the Weekend at Bernie's treatment to their old IP with their publicly traded necromancy. We aren't just o

Destiny 2: Lightfall Review

On the chitin-covered heels of the impressive Witch Queen expansion and a relatively strong year of live-service support overall, it seemed like Destiny 2 was finally gaining momentum as it headed toward the conclusion of its epic saga. Sadly, my optimism for a game I’ve put thousands of hours into has come crashing down like a Cabal drop pod after spending 80 hours with its latest expansion, Lightfall. The story is so shockingly incoherent that even someone who has spent countless hours reading Destiny’s lore like me couldn’t understand its nonsense, the new destination on Neptune feels as lifeless as the real planet, and the passable endgame/seasonal activities have so few surprises that they give me deja vu in the worst possible way. Thankfully, there are a number of things Lightfall excels at as well, like the new Strand subclass, which is an excellent addition to Destiny’s sandbox. Many of the expansion’s new campaign activities and Nightfall Strikes are refreshingly challenging

PlayStation Plus March 2023 Game Catalog Update Highlighted by Ghostwire Tokyo

Sony has announced a new batch of games coming to its PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, with Ghostwire: Tokyo, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, and Immortals Fenyx Rising headlining this month. As noted in a recent PlayStation Blog post , these games and fourteen others will be available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members at no additional cost. Here are some of the highlights. Earlier today, we learned that Ghostwire: Tokyo is getting a major update and launching on Xbox Series X/S and Game Pass next month. In our review of Ghostwire: Tokyo , we praised its visual design despite its "one-dimensional combat and uninteresting mission design." Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is a remastered compilation of Uncharted IV: A Thief's End and The Lost Legacy, released on January 28,

Deal Alert: Save $45 Off This PS5 God of War Console Bundle at Dell

The PlayStation 5 console is much easier to find now than ever before. Unfortunately, even with the more sustainable inventory, it's still very difficult to find a PS5 that's actually discounted. Fortunately, that changes today. Dell is offering a PS5 Disc Edition console , bundled with the God of War: Ragnarok game and a second DualSense (Cosmic Red) controller, for only $589.99. If you were to buy the PS5 God of War bundle alone, it would run you $559. The DualSense controller in Cosmic Red costs an additional $75. That means instead of paying $634 for both, you're paying $589.99. That's a savings of about $45, or 7%. PS5 God of War Bundle with 2nd DualSense Controller God of War: Ragnarok is the latest God of War game and we gave it a 10/10 "Masterpiece" rating. If you liked the last God of War game, then you'll enjoy Ragnarok. It continues the story of Kratos and Atreus as they take on the nine realms of Norse mythology. God of War: Ragnarok IG

Remnant 2 - Introducing the Handler: Surviving The Root with Man’s Best Friend | IGN First

The supernatural wastelands of Remnant 2 can be a lonely place. But for those who would rather not go it alone, there’s the Handler archetype: a character class that gives you an incredibly reliable dog companion. My trusty mutt and I chewed our way through countless baddies, and even a few bosses, before I commanded principal designer Ben Cureton to “sit” and tell me all about the Handler archetype himself. “The fantasy with the Handler is: I always have somebody that has my back, and we're cooperating, we're working together, we're taking down big enemies. I can draw aggro for it. It can draw aggro from me,” Ben explained. "Every time I toggled between these options, the dog’s bandana would change color to reflect which role he currently had equipped." Designed primarily for those who wish to play through Remnant solo, the Handler is a support class that made me a little better at everything with the help of an extremely handy dog. Not only did the dog have

Ghostwire: Tokyo Coming to Xbox in April Alongside Major Update

Ghostwire: Tokyo’s PlayStation console exclusivity is ending as developer Tango Gameworks has announced the game will hit Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass on April 12. A major free update for Ghostwire: Tokyo, called the Spider’s Thread update, will be released on the same day for all users (on PS5, Xbox, and PC) and adds a new game mode, extended story cutscenes, new areas, and more. The Spider’s Thread game mode puts players through a gauntlet of 30 stages, pulled from a selection of 120 hand-crafted levels, with the sole goal of reaching the end. Progressing through the levels lets the player earn in-game money, unlock more skills, and gain upgrades. New parts of Ghostwire: Tokyo’s map are also being opened up, headlined by the local Middle School area, and each new location comes with new missions and mysterious to uncover. A variety of new enemies are also being added to the game including the invisible Silent Gaze and elusive Retribution, and players can unlock new skills des

The Last of Us: Predicting Season 2

Image
This article contains full spoilers for The Last of Us Part 2. If you have not played the game and want to remain spoiler-free for HBO’s TV show stop reading now! HBO’s The Last of Us has been an undeniably successful television adaptation of the beloved Naughty Dog game. Now the challenge for creators Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin will be how to tackle the emotionally complicated beast that is The Last of Us Part 2. So, I’ve (perhaps foolishly) had a go at planning out the show’s second season and sketching a rough outline of what could happen in each episode. The video game sequel is over twice as long as its predecessor, so cramming it all into one more season of TV seems like a bit of a stretch to me, so let’s assume this is going to be a story told over two. Alongside issues of length, there’s also no doubt that Part 2 is in need of more of a tinkering with than the mostly straight adaptation that was Part 1. Despite being a masterpiece in my eyes, Part 2 relies more heavily
