Weird West Review
In this alternate universe, the West was won by trying a bunch of ideas so crazy they just might work… and if they don’t, hitting the quick-load button to revert to an earlier save and trying something even crazier until you pull it off. Thanks to that freedom to experiment with its world as you explore, Weird West is one of those games that feels like a stealth and combat playground even as it tells five mostly serious, well-written stories with interesting decisions throughout and a thoughtful conclusion. And with so much ground to cover and replayability to investigate, it’s well worth putting up with some quirks and underwhelming loot. What ties Weird West’s plot together is a group of shadowy figures using a magical brand to force your character’s consciousness into the bodies of various unsuspecting people. It’s a clever play on the way so many games have us take control of a character who already exists in that world but still need to bring us up to speed on their identity: h...
Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader – How Did it Take This Long to Get a Warhammer CRPG?
It’s truly bizarre that across the nearly 30 years of Warhammer video games, we haven’t had a single one that attempted to channel the tabletop Warhammer experience by utilizing the genre that feels best suited to do so: CRPGs. But that’s all about to change, as Pathfinder developer Owlcats has been cooking up something to fill this void. During an extensive hands-off demo of Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader, I checked out its extremely chunky turn-based combat system, drowned in its plethora of dialogue options and social skill checks, and nodded approvingly at its lovingly faithful depiction of Warhammer’s morbid universe. While it’s still very early, so far this CRPG is shaping up to be everything I’ve wanted from a Warhammer video game. If you’ve ever played (or even glanced at) a game of Warhammer 40K, then you probably know it’s designed for a hyper-specific kind of nerd who loves calculations, large-scale drama, and an incredibly detailed world one could easily get lost in. Warham...

If you need a bit of a refresher, you can check out this comparison of the scenes right below! We noticed some familiar scenes in that Omni-Man #MK1 trailer. pic.twitter.com/LYsL2VDTaq — Skybound Games (@skyboundgames) October 14, 2023 During the reveal at Skybound's 20th anniversary panel at NYCC, Robert Kirkman and Ed Boon shared that "every moment of Omni-Man in Mortal Kombat 1 is inspired by a piece of the show." At least one Nintendo fan would still like to play the Wii U, the troubled console that lasted just over four years before making way for the Switch. Circana analyst Mat Piscatella took to X on Friday to reveal that Nintendo sold one new Wii U in the U.S. in September. It's apparently the first Wii U to be sold since May 2022 according to Circana's data. The new unit was apparently purchased from a retailer that reports individual store level sales data to the company, which video game industry sales data on a monthly basis. 1 new Wii U was sold in the US in September. First time a new Wii U sold since May 2022. Last time a new Vita unit sold was in November 2021, when 3 (!!) were purchased. Is any of this at all meaningful? No. Sales fun facts that do not matter. — Mat Piscatella (@MatPiscatella) October 13, 2023 "We acquire and process individual store level sales data for every sku across most retailers, which combined account for about 97% of the hardware mar...

With All Hallows' Eve just a couple weeks away, spooky season is officially here. Of course, the scares started creeping up the calendar much sooner at Universal Orlando Resort, where the park's annual Halloween Horror Nights event has been raising goosebumps and chilling spines since September 1. That month-plus of frights has mostly come courtesy of the celebration's 10, elaborate haunted houses, including an especially terrifying take on acclaimed PlayStation game The Last of Us . But while Joel and Ellie's inclusion on this year's roster has fueled its fair share of nightmares, HHN's other walk-through attractions also deserve your screams. As any horror enthusiast worth their weight in spilled entrails knows, however, those cries of terror can be triggered by any number of very specific elements – from the monster lurking beneath your bed to the clown peering through your window. With that in mind, we braved this year's slate of mazes and broke them ...

Who is Mario, really ? It's a question the internet has been asking since the retirement of long-time Mario voice actor Charles Martinet, as they pondered who might be replacing him as the voice of the iconic Nintendo plumber. And it's a question I've been obsessed with for the last 12 hours or so. Earlier today, both the internet and I thought we had finally found the answer in an actor named Mick Wingert. But Wingert's denial of his own potential Mario-ness has once again thrown me (and now all of you) into total bafflement, and now I'm just begging Nintendo to 'fess up and tell us who could possibly be taking over for Martinet. The rumors about Wingert and Mario kicked off very early today, with the circulation of an as-yet-unconfirmed list of voice actors supposedly from the credits of upcoming game Super Mario Bros. Wonder. As reported by VGC , this list is allegedly pulled from a kiosk demo and lists all the game's voice actors. However, the list s...
