Marvel Snap Will Get Its Long-Awaited PvP Battle Mode in Late January

Marvel Snap will be getting its long-awaited PVP Battle Mode on January 31, assuming there are no "last minute issues." The news was revealed on Marvel Snap's official website, and developer Second Dinner's associate design director Kent-Erik Hagman also took to Unity Blog to further detail what players can expect. Marvel Snap's Battle Mode arrives as part of the Version 1.0 update, and it will see two opponents facing off against each other through multiple rounds. Both players will start with 10 health and the goal is to cut the other player's health to 0 before they do the same to you. Additionally, decks are locked throughout the entire battle, so it will benefit players to pay attention to what cards are played so they can know what they'll be up against in future rounds. Another strategy is to hold a card back until a future round to surprise surprise your opponent. Battle Mode went under multiple iterations during development, including ti

John Carpenter Hints at an Upcoming Dead Space Film, But He's Not Involved

Horror film legend John Carpenter really, really loves Dead Space. The director of The Thing, Halloween, and Escape From New York has talked about it extensively in the past. And amidst his love of the series, Carpenter may have just inadvertently teased a film adaptation before it was ever officially revealed. In an interview with Variety, the publication nudged Carpenter on his past remarks about wanting to make a Dead Space film. In response, Carpenter backpedaled pretty significantly on the idea that he might be involved, but at the end let slip that "another director" was involved...implying such a thing exists in the first place. "I’m a big video game fan, so I played all the [Dead Space] games," Carpenter said. "I was down looking at the new digital cameras, the RED, and happened to mention to them that I would love to do a 'Dead Space' film. That just went around, and everybody said, 'Oh, when are you gonna do it?' I’m not gonna d

Demacia is one of the kingdoms in League of Legends, ands has often been depcted as a kingdom in turmoil. Sylas is a champion who was added to League of Legends back in early 2019. Also known as Sylas the Unshackled, the character's basic attack in League of Legends whirls chains around him, damaging nearby enemies. His equipment could lend itself nicely to an action title, with chain whip

One Piece Odyssey Review

A classic turn-based RPG in the style of Dragon Quest is not exactly the first place my mind goes when it comes to thinking of game genres that would pair well with the action-heavy world of One Piece, but as One Piece Odyssey proves, it’s actually kind of a great fit. The Straw Hats make for one hell of a party of RPG characters; Eichiro Oda’s one-of-a-kind art style lends itself well to filling the world with fantastical and amusing creatures; and the over-the-top nature of battles from the actual manga and anime gives plenty of material for some of the coolest (and funniest) special attacks I’ve seen in any turn-based RPG. Those fights would’ve been better if they were a more consistent challenge, and I could’ve done with less backtracking through areas I’d already explored, but this is still a surprisingly satisfying JRPG that’s not quite by the numbers. The story begins with Luffy and crew suddenly finding themselves marooned on the mysterious island of Waford. It isn't lon

The Callisto Protocol: Former Striking Distance Developers Say 'Key Folks' Were Left Out of Credits

Striking Distance Studios is under fire for reportedly leaving developers out of The Callisto Protocol's credits . Now, IGN's own reporting corroborates the accounts that key names were left out of the game's credits, and IGN has heard that issues with crediting on games directed by Glen Schofield date further back than just The Callisto Protocol. In a report from gamesindustry.biz earlier this week, sources told the publication that an estimated 20 developers were omitted from The Callisto Protocol's credits. IGN spoke to two former employees of Striking Distance Studios, both of whom worked at the company during The Callisto Protocol's development, and have confirmed details from the report. One of the employees we spoke to was included in the credits, despite working with the company for less than a year of Callisto Protocol's development time. However, they told IGN that "some key folks weren’t added" to the credits. "I can tell two peo

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Will Get Another Patch...Late Next Month

The Pokémon Company International said that there were will be a new patch for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet coming in February. “Update Ver. 1.2.0, which will include bug fixes and add functionality, is planned to be released in late February. Please look forward to more details soon,” says The Pokémon Company in a statement on its official website . Shortly after launch back in November, Patch 1.1.0 was pushed out and added features such as Ranked Battles and fixed some “select bugs” such as the music not being played correctly during battles against the Elite Four. However, the patch didn’t seem to address many of the various technical and performance issues that have been plaguing the games. Unfortunately, The Pokémon Company hasn’t provided any specific details on whether the upcoming patch will alleviate performance problems. So far, it seems like it’ll just continue to fix more bugs and include additional features. Despite how the numerous glitches and performance

Why You Should be Afraid of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty’s Bosses – IGN First

Image
“When first facing a boss, you usually start out in despair, thinking there is no way you can beat it. Figuring out when a boss is open to attack and finding clues on how to beat it through trial and error by yourself is what I see as the most enjoyable part of a boss battle. Not giving the player too many hints is something we’ve been conscious about since the Nioh series, and that hasn’t changed for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.” So says Fumihiko Yasuda, the brand head of Team Ninja and the producer of Wo Long. While the design philosophy of Wo Long’s bosses is very much in line with that of Nioh – the developer’s first Soulsborne title – there are also quite a few elements that are unique to Wo Long’s Chinese martial arts based combat. The most distinctive feature of Wo Long’s more fast-paced, smooth combat is Deflect, a move that can be activated by pressing the dodge button at the right moment to parry an enemy’s attack. Deflecting attacks lowers the enemy's Spirit, ultimately a

After Immortality, Sam Barlow Is Thinking About 3D Game Development Again

Despite key credits on franchises like Silent Hill, Serious Sam, and Legacy of Kain, for the last decade Sam Barlow has been mostly known as that guy that makes the “FMV games.” Barlow went indie in 2014 and published Her Story the following year before forming studio Half Mermaid and releasing Telling Lies and 2022’s Immortality. With all three, Barlow took a very different approach to video game storytelling — filming scenes with real actors and playing with variations on central mechanics that have the audience searching for information through hours upon hours of footage. For this, Barlow and Half Mermaid have received numerous awards and accolades, with Immortality nominated three times at The Game Awards for best performance, best narrative, and best game direction respectively. I spoke with Barlow the day after The Game Awards, who said he went “all out” with Immortality — which leaves him “slightly scared” to consider what he and Half Mermaid might follow it up with. “Do

Why Sam Barlow Is Designing ‘Mental Metroidvanias’

“Occasionally boggles my mind and martian postcards me that 90% of the games that are the critical and popular mainstays of our medium revolve around remote controlling a little toy person about like a human scalextric.” That’s a tweet from Sam Barlow , founder of Half Mermaid and director of Immortality, posted in late November of last year just a few weeks after The Game Awards nominees were announced. Immortality itself was up for recognition in three categories: best game direction, best performance (Manon Gage as Marissa Marcel) and best narrative. While it deserved nominations for all three, Immortality is a curious contender: even a glance at its fellow nominees in any of the three categories immediately threw into sharp relief just how different Immortality was from any of the competition. Bluntly: every other game it was up against (and the vast majority of all the other award nominees) is about “remote controlling a little toy person about.” Immortality is, well, not. A

Deal Alert: Save 40% Off the Wingspan Board Game from Stonemaier Games

For a limited time, Amazon is offering the excellent Wingspan board game for only $38.81. That's a substantial 40% off the original retail price of $65. If you missed the deal on Black Friday, this is another chance for you to pick up a highly rated and very accessible board game for a deal-worthy price. Wingspan Board Game for $38.81 Wingspan from Stonemeier Games is an incredibly good board game. So good in fact that we deemed it the best board game of 2019 . Wingspan looks like a deceptively simple game; the endgame goal is to attract as many birds as you can to your wildlife preserve and help them proliferate. There are only four actions you can perform: draw a bird card, play a bird card, get food, and lay eggs. Sounds simple enough, right? Well let's just say these four actions mask an incredibly complex engine-building game with which you will have to juggle between bringing new birds into the fold and keeping your existing birds well stocked and in a breeding frenz

Every Ubisoft Game in Development

Image
Ubisoft is a massive company. According to its own data , the video game publishing giant owns over 45 development studios and employs over 20,000 people — significantly more than competitors such as EA — though Ubisoft is reportedly dealing with an exodus of talent . Despite its ongoing struggles, Ubisoft continues to focus on producing new entries in its stable of established franchises — Assassin’s Creed, Tom Clancy, and Far Cry, to name a few — while intermittently experimenting with new franchises like Immortals Fenyx Rising and Riders Republic . It’s a one-two punch that makes Ubisoft and its development decisions interesting to follow, even if those experiments don’t always pan out . To give you a better idea of the company’s current production pipeline, we’ve created this list of every Ubisoft game we know to be in development for consoles and PC. (Rumored projects and mobile games, such as Assassin's Creed Jade and The Division Resurgence , are not included.) Click
