Respawn is Working on Building a New Franchise 'From Scratch'

Respawn, the studio behind Apex Legends, Titanfall, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, is working on building a new franchise from scratch. This news comes by way of Vince Zampella, the head of Respawn Entertainment, who quote-tweeted a tweet announcing that a small team at Respawn was hiring for a new intellectual property. The team is currently made of up five individuals, but it's looking to hire a coder to make it six. Looking for an exciting new opportunity? New Respawn project, super exciting stuff. Get in early! https://t.co/48UOhXhq7e — Vince Zampella (@VinceZampella) April 23, 2021 As you can see in Zampella's tweet above, the new project is early in development and while the tweet is about hiring, it also doubles as news that Respawn is working on a brand new IP. This means it isn't Titanfall 3, something fans have wanted for years as you can see in the tweet replies to Zampella's tweet, and it isn't a sequel to 2019's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

The Best PS5 Games

Image
PS5  is the  fastest-selling console  in U.S. history based on dollar sales – an impressive feat considering Sony's next-gen machine has rarely been in stock since it was released last November. If you were lucky enough to secure a PS5 and are wondering where to dive into its already-vast library, IGN is here to help with a curated list of the ten best PS5 games you can play right now. Between exclusive launch titles, third-party games, and  backward compatibility on PS5 , there's a lot to choose from, and with a few big releases in the beginning of 2021, we've updated our list to feature all PS5 games, no PS4 backward-compatible games. Our main qualifier now is that, given how many cross-gen games there are, games on this list  have to have a dedicated next-gen version available. There's plenty to choose from and more exciting games to come, and thanks to the new external hard drive support from the latest PS5 update  you'll be able to store them all. Some games

It Takes Two Selling 1 Million Copies Shows That Players Want Co-op Only Games, Josef Fares Says

It Takes Two has officially sold over one million copies, and its writer and director Josef Fares says that this proves there are players who want to play co-op only games. It Takes Two developer Hazelight Studios shared the news on Twitter, saying, "Wow!!! Just found out #ItTakesTwo has sold over 1 million copies and is still going strong! Thank you so much for all the love you've shown our game, it means the world to us." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/04/10/josef-fares-responds-to-ign-comments"] Fares Quote Tweeted that message, adding that "this shows that there definitely is players that also wants to play co op only games! Thank you everyone and I hope we see more games like this." This milestone arrives after many in the gaming community, including IGN, praised the game's beautiful, fun, and inventive world. In our It Takes Two review , we said it "is a spectacular co-op adventure that lays down a path of great gamepla

All of Resident Evil Village's Villains Revealed

Image
The Internet is already obsessed with Resident Evil Village’s towering Lady Dimitrescu – but she will be only one of four main Lords who serve Mother Miranda in the game. Today, IGN can exclusively reveal the full roster of these villainous boss characters, as well as a little info on the horrific locations they each inhabit. After playing the main game for five hours , I was still in Castle Dimitrescu, but the game’s map – which we revealed last week – shows that this is only one area in a much larger game. Each area is not just unique from a visual standpoint, but also comes with different enemy types, gameplay mechanics and boss fights. The village, located somewhere in Eastern Europe, is ruled by a figure known as Mother Miranda. She comes across as a type of cult leader, and the villagers can be seen worshipping her like a deity. New Pokemon Snap Website Gives a Tour of the Lental Region Ahead of Launch

Image
New Pokemon Snap has received a snazzy new website dedicated to helping players learn the basics before jumping into the Lental region when the game launches next week. The game will be released on April 30 and this new website is perfect for those excited for what awaits them in New Pokemon Snap. The website, aptly named ExploreLental.com as if it were the tourism site for a real place, will require you to log in with your Nintendo account before gaining access to it. That's because you can earn My Nintendo Points while exploring the site. When you make it to the actual site, you'll be shown an overview of the Lental region and you'll see eight different icons on the map. By "visiting," as it were, the eight icons on the map, you'll earn My Nintendo Points. From left to right across the map above, they are the Nature Park, Nighttime, the Desert, the Jungle, "Using Items," the Beach, "Photodex & Album," and Daytime. Returnal: Gameplay Time Loop Explained

Returnal’s core gameplay loop can be confusing to wrap your head around without having played it yourself. Sure, it may be familiar to those who have played the likes of Hades, Rogue Legacy and Dead Cells, but it varies enough from those to warrant explanation. Here, we try to succinctly as possible, and without spoiling any of the story, describe just what you’ll be doing in a loop of Returnal. The First Loop Returnal opens with protagonist Selene having crash landed on the alien planet of Atropos. With communications down and no help on the way you’re given the mysterious main objective of “Locate the White Shadow Broadcast”. With only a semi-automatic pistol to help protect you (unless you get lucky and find a new weapon) you’ll likely not get far, and end up dying to either one of these razor-fisted Titanops, or maybe these teleporting tree aliens. Don’t worry though, dying is very much part of Returnal and it won’t be the last time that you live, die and repeat. [ignvideo url=&qu

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Team Acknowledges Recent Updates Haven't Met Expectations

Image
The team behind Assassin's Creed Valhalla has acknowledged that recent updates haven't met expectations, and committed to longer testing periods for updates going forward. In a  blog post about the update pipeline for Assassin's Creed Valhalla , a spokesperson wrote: "Our community is at the heart of everything we do, and we always strive to provide you with great experiences. That said, we recognize that some of our recent title updates may not have met your expectations or been up to our standard." Updates to Valhalla have brought fan-requested features, but many players have reported new bugs appearing within those updates. Recently, Ubisoft added a fan-requested transmogrification feature to Valhalla, but  its implementation didn't go down too well with fans.  Other title updates have brought crashes and glitches to the game too. In response, Ubisoft is changing its production pipeline to deliver "more robust updates," and are shifting from a 4-w

Sega Starts a Judgment Countdown Clock, and Fans Want a Sequel

SEGA has revealed a ‘Judgment Day’ countdown clock, and fans are keen to see if it’s going to lead to a sequel to the publisher’s 2018 detective-themed Yakuza spin-off. The timer is currently ticking down on the Ryu Ga Gotoku website , and will stop on May 7, 2021 at 7am Pacific / 10am Eastern / 3pm UK (that midnight, May 8 AEST). A trailer is attached to the reveal, and you can join the waiting fans on YouTube. Of course, many fans are speculating that this is going to lead to a sequel. A Japanese SEGA trademark for “Lost Judgment” was found in March , which could very well be its title. ”Fingers crossed for a reveal of Judgment 2” said Yakuza fan @PrinceWhatever on Twitter. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/03/29/judgment-announcement-trailer"] “I'm guessing this is Judgement 2's announcement. Glad we're getting more from this spin off. Call of Duty: Warzone Will Never Return to Its Original Map

Call of Duty: Warzone saw a major map refresh yesterday – and developer Raven says it will never return to the original map, Verdansk. Despite being the same fundamental part of the game's world,  introducing Verdansk '84  changes a lot of what we know about Warzone's map, and that's seemingly a permanent change. Associate creative director Amos Hodge used a studio broadcast to say: "Players don't know it, but current day Verdansk, they'll never play in that state again. Current day Verdansk is gone and it's not coming back." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/call-of-duty-warzone-7-minutes-of-verdansk-84-gameplay-with-commentary"] That change hasn't been made simply for narrative reasons – the team's using it to fix some legacy problems with the original Verdansk. Speaking to PC Gamer , Hodge explained that the switch fixes some common buggy areas that cause players to fall under the map: "This is a good chance for u

MotoGP 21 Review

We haven’t regularly covered the MotoGP series in the past but the motorcycle specialists at developer Milestone have been quietly iterating on it for over 15 years. With all that experience, it should probably come as no surprise that the latest edition, MotoGP 21, is a deep, satisfying, and sometimes unflinchingly tough modern motorsport simulation. It’s packaged fairly similarly to Codemasters’ F1 series and KT Racing’s WRC games, only with 50% fewer wheels and 500% more terrifying crashes. Of course, if you’ve been keeping close track of its progress you’ll find that MotoGP 21 is a lot like MotoGP 20 – identical even, in some areas – although there have been a couple of welcome tweaks that do genuinely improve the bike handling and the racing. [ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://ift.tt/3sK56BN] MotoGP 21’s sensation of speed is quite remarkable, especially in first-person, and the feeling of weight is also excellent. On track the racing is aggressive and dangerous: relativ

MLB The Show 21 Players Are Recreating Tiger Stadium And Other Classic Ballparks

Image
The mid-century modern baseball stadium is a bit of an endangered species these days. Most teams have moved into ballparks designed to evoke the sports glory days, or into hulking monstrosities like those in Milwaukee and Miami. The exception, perhaps, is the Oakland Coliseum, a memorable dumpster that has hosted Athletics games for more than 50 years. But with this week's release of MLB The Show 21, classic ballparks are suddenly back in style thanks to the new stadium creator. Users have been using the feature to create detailed replicas of familiar stadiums and posting them to Reddit. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/04/21/mlb-the-show-21-review"] Reddit user SomeLadyNamedRuth has been one of the platform's most prolific creators. Naraka: Bladepoint Is a Battle Royale for Fighting Game Fans

Image
The battle royale genre is evolving at a fast pace, with games like Fall Guys, Tetris 99, and Spellbreak proving that you don’t need guns to pull off the “Last One Standing” concept in a giant multiplayer game. Naraka: Bladepoint, from Chinese studio 24 Entertainment, is the latest large-scale multiplayer game to try and make its mark on the battle royale genre, with the hook being literal grappling hooks and an incredibly deep melee combat system that makes it feel almost like a battle royale version of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. After playing two full matches and getting a crash course on the combat system, the results so far are extremely promising. Let’s start with the familiar: Like just about any traditional battle royale, in Naraka every match begins with you and your squad dropping into a map of up to 60 other players and scrounging for loot of increasing tiers in order to prepare for the inevitable clashes with other players. There are encroaching bubbles at given interv

Call of Duty: Warzone Season 3's New Maps Rewinds the Clock to 1984

The newest season of Call of Duty: Warzone is officially out and it comes with a major overhaul of its Verdansk map. Now, it’s Verdansk ‘84. This week, Call of Duty: Warzone began to ramp up towards its new season starting with the Destruction of Verdansk event. This ended with the map being nuked , putting the future of Verdansk in doubt. From this rubble, Warzone travels back in time to Verdansk back in 1984, a new version of the map where every building and object has traveled back in time. The run-down buildings are newer, the streets more vibrant, and there’s grass and flora everywhere. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/04/22/call-of-duty-warzone-verdansk-84-trailer"] The new Warzone map has a fully-revitalized Airport (destroyed in the previous Verdansk map) a new Airport control tower, an in-construction Verdansk Stadium, a newly accessible Gora Summit, the new Airplane Factory, Radar Array, and more. Call of Duty began the groundwork for Verdansk ‘84 for

Destiny 2 Finally Adds a Transmog System, and It's a Hassle

Destiny 2 is finally adding a transmog system that will let players change an armor's appearance to another desired one, but it's a bit of a hassle. As detailed by Bungie, Destiny 2's upcoming transmog system arrives in "a few short weeks" and is called Armor Synthesis, but it takes a bit of work to actually use it. The first step in the process requires players to collect Synthstrand from defeating enemies. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=destiny-2s-armor-synthesistransmog-system-screenshots&captions=true"] Once 150 Synthstrand is earned, players can visit Ada-1 in the Tower to acquire class-specific bounties that reward Synthcord upon completion. There will be five categories of Armor Synthesis bounties, including Vanguard, Crucible, Gambit, Destinations, and Raids and Dungeons. A few examples of these bounties are as follows; Complete playlists strikes using specific subclasses.(Vanguard) Accumulate po

PlayStation Delisting Cyberpunk 2077 'Influenced' Sales on Other Platforms, CDPR Says

CD Projekt says its Cyberpunk 2077 sales figures should take into account the decisions made by Sony to delist Cyberpunk from the PSN store. In the company’s first investors call after the incredibly troubled release of the sci-fi roleplay game, a CDPR executive implied that Sony’s decision to pull Cyberpunk 2077 off of the PlayStation Store influenced sales on other platforms. “In general I would say that the sentiment about Cyberpunk and the situation with the Sony digital storefront — the fact that we were cut off from large portions of the market which may have also indirectly affected gamers’ decision to purchase the game on other platforms — definitely influenced the sales,” the CDPR executive said. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/03/30/cyberpunk-2077-update-12-the-biggest-changes-and-updates"] Sony took Cyberpunk 2077 off of its storefront on December 17, 2020 , following widespread criticism of the role-playing game’s dismal performance issues on con

CDPR Issued Some 30,000 Refunds for Cyberpunk 2077

In the first earnings call since the release of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red revealed that it processed approximately 30,000 refund requests for the struggling sci-fi RPG. CDPR calculated the number based on the roughly $2.23 million spent on its "Help Me Refund Program," which it launched soon after the release of Cyberpunk 2077. Refunds were issued in response to complaints of poor performance and a heavy number of bugs , particularly on base consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The process proved chaotic, as customers had to navigate different refund portals depending on the version they purchased. This was on top of Sony removing Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store entirely . [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/07/cyberpunk-2077-review"] All things considered, it's a fairly low number given how much attention was given to Cyberpunk 2077's various issues, especially given that CDPR was able to sell some 13.7 million copies
