Weird West Review
In this alternate universe, the West was won by trying a bunch of ideas so crazy they just might work… and if they don’t, hitting the quick-load button to revert to an earlier save and trying something even crazier until you pull it off. Thanks to that freedom to experiment with its world as you explore, Weird West is one of those games that feels like a stealth and combat playground even as it tells five mostly serious, well-written stories with interesting decisions throughout and a thoughtful conclusion. And with so much ground to cover and replayability to investigate, it’s well worth putting up with some quirks and underwhelming loot. What ties Weird West’s plot together is a group of shadowy figures using a magical brand to force your character’s consciousness into the bodies of various unsuspecting people. It’s a clever play on the way so many games have us take control of a character who already exists in that world but still need to bring us up to speed on their identity: h...
Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader – How Did it Take This Long to Get a Warhammer CRPG?
It’s truly bizarre that across the nearly 30 years of Warhammer video games, we haven’t had a single one that attempted to channel the tabletop Warhammer experience by utilizing the genre that feels best suited to do so: CRPGs. But that’s all about to change, as Pathfinder developer Owlcats has been cooking up something to fill this void. During an extensive hands-off demo of Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader, I checked out its extremely chunky turn-based combat system, drowned in its plethora of dialogue options and social skill checks, and nodded approvingly at its lovingly faithful depiction of Warhammer’s morbid universe. While it’s still very early, so far this CRPG is shaping up to be everything I’ve wanted from a Warhammer video game. If you’ve ever played (or even glanced at) a game of Warhammer 40K, then you probably know it’s designed for a hyper-specific kind of nerd who loves calculations, large-scale drama, and an incredibly detailed world one could easily get lost in. Warham...

505 Games has announced that, apart from content that has already been submitted, there will be no more production on Indivisible following the controversy surrounding developer Lab Zero Games. 505 Games released a statement that clarifies this unfortunate decision, revealing that there will be no Guest Characters or Backer-created characters added to the game, even though they were previously promised. There is currently an update in submission for Nintendo Switch that will add Razmi's Challenges, New Game+, and Couch Co-Op, which will bring all platforms to the same level of development. Amazon's free-to-play team shooter Crucible is shutting down on November 9, 2020, just months after its official launch on May 20, 2020. The Crucible team shared their final developer update and discussed what lead to the decision following the team pulling the game back to Closed Beta in July. The team made a list of features that were meant to enhance the player experience and, with the exception of custom games (which is slated to arrive in the coming days), it completed them all. However, after shipping those features and evaluating the feedback from fans, paired with the data collected, the difficult choice to discontinue development was made. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/27/crucible-review"] "That evaluation led us to a difficult decision: we’ll be discontinuing development on Crucible," The Crucible team's statement read. Moon Studios on the Potential of a New Ori Game, Prequels, Spin-Offs, and Ori in Smash

Moon Studios doesn't have any new Ori games planned right now, but has "left the door open" for a return to the series – perhaps in a prequel or spin-off. One spin-off the team doesn't have much control over, but would very much like to see, is Ori making an appearance in Super Smash Bros. With Ori & the Blind Forest and Ori & the Will of the Wisps now complete, the studio has said previously that it's happy with how Ori's story ended . In a new interview with IGN, the team made clear that was still the case, but it doesn't necessarily mean Moon won't return to the world it created. Moon is now working on a brand new action-RPG for publisher Private Division, with no connection to its Ori games. "We are still in the pretty early stages of development," said lead artist Daniel van Leeuwen, "but a lot of the things we already have are very exciting!" FIFA 21 Legacy Edition (Switch) Review

Seeing as EA copy and pasted last year’s FIFA onto Switch again this year – once again saying it has the same gameplay “without any new development or significant enhancements” on its store page for the full price of $49.99/£44.99 – I’ve decided to do the same and copy and paste my review of FIFA 20 on Switch below as my review of FIFA 21: There’s honestly no genuine reason I could give you to purchase FIFA 20 on the Nintendo Switch if you already own FIFA 19 on Switch. I don’t generally share the sentiment of the crowd that labels sports games as the same every year, but when it comes to FIFA 20 Legacy Edition, all of the comment section tropes are valid. For a series already drowning in microtransaction debate, the Switch version really doesn’t help EA’s case in currying gamers’ favour by essentially offering nothing but a barebones roster update for nearly the price of a full game. A ‘macrotransaction’, if you will. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters=...

Warhorse Studios and former Netflix executive Erik Barmack have announced that they are developing a live-action adaptation of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the popular open-world RPG that is set in the medieval time of the Holy Roman Empire. Just a Piece of Cyberpunk 2077's Japanese Script Is Basically the Size of a Coffee Table

If you wanted a visual representation of quite how much voiced dialogue there'll be in Cyberpunk 2077, look no further than a section of the Japanese script, which is, not to put too fine a point on it, massive. To celebrate the game going gold , CD Projekt Red's Japanese localization manager, Yuki Nishio, showed off what he says is just a part of the Cyberpunk dub script - making up four stacks of paper that each look to be 2 or more feet tall. It's basically a coffee table: #サイバーパンク2077 無事ゴールドマスターです!ひとつの大きなマイルストーンに到達しましたが、これからも引き続きブラッシュアップしていきます!まだまだやれることはある! そしていい機会なので(あくまでも一部ではありますが)、日本語吹き替え台本の写真をどうぞ。 pic.twitter.com/Rg5PNu3aDF — 西尾勇輝 (@Nishio_EE) October 5, 2020 It's not clear quite how much of the script this section makes up, but it's more than clear that there's going to be a lot of voiced dialogue in the course of CD Projekt Red's long-awaited RPG. Ken Kocienda, a former Apple software engineer and creator of the autocorrect feature, has released his first iOS game, Up Spell . Appropriately (and perhaps sinisterly) enough, it requires spelling words correctly. As reported by Tech Crunch , Up Spell challenges players to use a Scrabble-like collection of letters to spell out as many words as possible in two minutes. You can check out the trailer on YouTube . Kocienda, who has never made an iOS app before Up Spell, fixated on creating a word game that would acknowledge proper names and slang. “Many games accept words like PHARAOH and PYRAMID, but not NILE or EGYPT. This doesn’t make sense to me. These are all words!,” Kocienda told Tech Crunch. An example of how Kocienda’s work influences gameplay is that a player can spell “s’ mores,” which involves an apostrophe, something many word games may not support. Morris Lupton is like no lead character I’ve played before. It’s not because he’s dead (because if you think about it, a surprising number of video game characters are dead), it’s his voice. Played by David Shaughnessy – whose velvetine English West Country tones are thoroughly unusual for any game character other than ‘fantasy yokel’ – Morris’ voice is your vehicle through I Am Dead’s short story, a narrator who basically knows as much as you do at any given time. He’s charmingly useless enough as to become an absolute delight, floating through the plot on a cloud of good vibes and light befuddlement, without ever really knowing what’s going on. In a way, Morris is a bizarre reflection of decades of video gaming’s amnesiac antiheroes – he too is on a quest to find out what’s really going on around here, possibly even to save the world (or at least a piece of it). Except, instead of some spurious revenge motive, he’s doing it because he was a curious old museum owner who’s quite surp...
