Smash World Tour Players Speak Out After Tournament Cancellation

All year, professional Super Smash Bros. Melee and Ultimate players have been competing in events across the globe to earn a spot in the Smash World Tour Championships, where the top players were supposed to compete with $250,000 on the line. But on November 29, a year of buildup and hype came crashing down. The organizers of the Smash World Tour posted an article on Medium saying that the 2022 Smash World Tour Championships and the 2023 Smash World Tour events must be canceled. As professional Smash player Axe tells IGN, this event meant a lot to the Smash community. "So, the Smash World Tour was almost like the Super Bowl of Smash tournaments," Axe said. "[The finals were] going to happen this upcoming weekend, and a lot of players — including myself — planned on attending specific events throughout the entire year to try to get enough points just to qualify for this one event." Pro football players don't worry about the Super Bowl getting canceled. G

Dead Space: How a Single Scene Was Created - IGN First

The Dead Space remake is a faithful recreation of the 2008 sci-fi horror classic. Well, mostly faithful. EA Motive has seized the opportunity to improve on the original, and so some sequences play out differently than you remember. An early example is the moment in which protagonist Isaac Clarke watches a corpse transform into a necromorph for the first time. To find out how the new version of this sequence was created, we spoke to several members of the Dead Space team to explore their roles in bringing the moment to life. As with every individual moment in every video game, the final result is the product of people working together. This IGN First video reveals how multiple people across several different departments combined their skills to create one of the game's most horrifying sequences. For more from Dead Space, check out how the story has been re-written for the remake , how the weapons have been redesigned , and a comparison between the graphics of the original game

World of Warcraft Veteran Chris Metzen Rejoins Development Team

Blizzard has announced that Chris Metzen, a veteran Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo designer, has returned to the company as a creative advisor after several years away. Chris’s focus initially will be on World of Warcraft, then his work will expand to other projects across this growing franchise. pic.twitter.com/Mwi6pXUcPi — John Hight (@JHight_Gamer) December 15, 2022 “Chris was one of the original team members working on the Warcraft universe back when it began in 1994, and we are so happy to be reuniting him with the world he helped create.” Metzen left Blizzard in 2016 after an almost 23-year career with the company. He was instrumental in the creation of the Warcraft universe back in the mid-90s, and has since served as creative director on numerous Blizzard projects, includi

But come on, we all know which of the two you're planning on getting! Sephiroth's popularity in gaming is undeniable. Go to any gami

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight Review

Most recent World of Warcraft expansions started with a tightly scripted, story-heavy, and somewhat bothersome on-rails scenario. Dragonflight seems to have remembered that this is an MMORPG and I should be deciding what kind of adventures I want to go on. Right off the boat onto the expansive, beautiful Dragon Isles, you'll be met with only minimal handholding and four huge, exciting zones to explore. But at the same time, Dragonflight feels like a creative step backwards from the experimental – though not always successful – spirit of Shadowlands . There's no denying that the new zones are downright gorgeous. The contrast between volcanic wastelands and verdant river valleys in The Waking Shores is a breathtaking introduction to the expansion. And these locales feature some of the best side quest writing I've seen in WoW in a long time. One of my favorite quests involved sitting and listening to a red dragon, shapeshifted into a humble dwarf, talk about all his regret

Death Stranding Movie in the Works From Kojima Productions and Barbarian's Hammerstone Studios

Hideo Kojima's Kojima Productions has partnered with Barbarian executive producer Alex Lebovici's Hammerstone Studios to develop and produce a movie based on Death Stranding. As reported by Deadline, the film is being fully financed by Hammerstone Studios and Kojima and Lebovici will serve as producers on the project. PlayStation Reveals 5 Japanese-Developed Launch Games for PS VR2

Sony has unveiled five Japanese-developed games including The Tale of Onogoro and Fantasvision 202X coming to the PlayStation VR2 at launch. Revealed on the PlayStation Blog , the games are the latest to join the PS VR2's launch line-up on February 22 . The Tale of Onogoro is a cooperative action game that sees the player join forces with Hal, a shrine maiden who embarks on a journey to stop the five raging Kami living on Onogori Island. Teamwork is essential as the player must solve riddles and battle with Hal while sharing health. Fantavision 202X is a remake of the original PlayStation 2 game, bringing back the bright and colourful firework-themed puzzles in the world of virtual reality. Also coming on launch day is Altair Breaker, a multiplayer sword-fighting action game that, as you'd expect, puts the player in control of a sword-fighting master as they cut through an army of killing machines. The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Includes a Wild Easter Egg Relating to Cyberpunk 2077's Biggest Mystery

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's next-gen update includes a bizarre Easter Egg relating to Cyberpunk 2077's biggest mystery. YouTuber xLetalis, who has discovered just about every other Easter Egg and secret hidden within The Witcher 3, posted a new video that outlines how to uncover the mystery and how it relates to a Cyberpunk 2077 secret that still has players scrambled more than two years after the game launched. The mystery - known as FF:06:B5 - revolves around a complicated set of numbers that appear within Cyberpunk's Night City. This particular number kicks things off as it's found on a statue worshipped by monks, and later connects to a handful of other numbers hidden throughout the city. CD Projekt Red has now seemingly extended the quest to The Continent, as a new inclusion in The Witcher 3 sees Geralt teleporting to mysterious ruins that host more of the strange code. By visiting the south east of Velen, which previously hosted the Ursine Witcher Armour

Amazon to Support and Publish New Tomb Raider With Crystal Dynamics

Amazon Games has signed a deal with Crystal Dynamics to support the development of and publish the next mainline Tomb Raider game being made in Unreal Engine 5. The companies announced the partnership today, December 15, saying they "have reached an agreement under which Crystal Dynamics will develop a new multiplatform Tomb Raider title, with Amazon Games providing full support and publishing the game globally." The game in question is the next-gen Tomb Raider that was announced in April 2022 . Crystal Dynamics, which was purchased by Embracer Group in August , noted that the acquisition has allowed for more unconventional publishing agreements such as the deal with Amazon. "Crystal Dynamics has an extraordinary opportunity following our acquisition by Embracer to redefine what a publishing relationship is for Tomb Raider," said head of Crystal Dynamics Scot Amos. "Transformative is what we’re looking for, and with Amazon Games, we found a team that sh

Resident Evil Village’s VR Mode Launches February 22 as Free DLC

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's Next-Gen Update Causing Major Performance Issues for Some PC Players

Developer CD Projekt Red just pushed its next-gen update live for The Witcher 3, but the upgrade seems to be doing a bit more harm than good for some PC players. After today's free next-gen update, PC players are reporting significant frame rate drops and bizarre texture and model rendering throughout The Witcher 3. Posts over on The Witcher subreddit commonly reference hardware chugging along, but it doesn't seem like Geralt's adventure is simply fixed by expensive upgrades—plenty of users with high-end graphics cards report the same issues. Some frame rate woes include drops below 60fps on cards from NVIDIA's 30 Series , noting performance pre-update outpaced The Witcher 3's latest version. Those complaints appear relatively common, along with whatever is going on with this grass. At least the grass is giving folks a good laugh. The subreddit even has a Witcher 3 troubleshooting mega thread going for the update, trying to crowd-source answers for those f

Dragon Quest Treasures Review

An adorable Kitty Shield smiles up at me from my latest treasure haul. The local appraiser, unmoved by its cute design, may say it’s not worth much, but that just means I get to proudly hang it on display in my vault instead – it’s not the most valuable piece of my hoard, but I look on it with satisfaction nonetheless. That Kitty Shield is a suitable metaphor for Dragon Quest Treasures as a whole: It’s far from the richest jewel in the Dragon Quest crown, but a laid-back structure, charming world, and endless stream of rewards make it a relaxing RPG still worth admiring. Treasures stars Erik, your thieving companion from Dragon Quest XI , and his sister Mia, but it takes place long before the Luminary stepped into their lives, when both pint-sized pickpockets lived with a crew of Viking marauders. After finding a flying pig and a talking cat (like you do), Erik and Mia fall through a magic portal into another dimension, which conveniently means that nothing they do or see has any be

New Hogwarts Legacy Gameplay Highlights Flight, Customization, and Murder

A new gameplay showcase has highlighted a number of new features in Hogwarts Legacy, including flying around the castle, customizing the Room of Requirement, and murdering other people with the killing curse. The first segment of gameplay shows the extent of flight on both a broom and a hippogriff, which can be used to travel outside of Hogwarts to other villages and places where quests might be available. We also see the seasons change during this section. Later in the showcase, we get an in-depth look at the customization of gear, magical creatures, and the Room of Requirement, a space that can be customized through conjuration spells obtainable through gameplay. But maybe the wildest part of the showcase for those keenly aware of the Harry Potter franchise is a middle segment where the player travels to the Dark Arts Battle Arena. In this section, we see the player - who is a student at Hogwarts and thus a teenage child still - immediately perform the Avada Kedavra killing cur

God of War Live-Action Series Officially Announced for Prime Video

Prime Video has announced that it will officially order a God of War live-action series, in co-production with Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions. Amazon’s Prime Video service says that the live-action series will be an adaptation of the Santa Monica Studios sequel series, following Kratos in the Norse realm of Midgard following his quest for vengeance in ancient Greece. Like in the game, the series will follow Kratos as he journeys with his son to the highest peak as a final request from his late wife. It was reported earlier this year that Prime Video was in talks with PlayStation on a potential live-action series, but today's direct-to-order announcement confirms Prime Video is serious about the adaptation. The Wheel of Time’s Rafe Judkins will serve as showrunner and executive producer, while Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, who’s worked on Iron Man and Children of Men, have boarded the series as writers and executive producers. Cory Barlog will also serve

River City Girls 2 Review

The Kunio-kun series is so old and spans so many consoles that you may have stumbled across one of its games without even knowing it’s part of a connected universe of beat-’em-ups. The best-known of them – Super Dodge Ball, Double Dragon, and River City Ransom – are all separate stories revolving around how there never seems to be a deficit of faces to punch in River City. River City Girls 2 is both a sequel to the excellent 2019 beat-‘em-up and the final form of the action-RPG design that River City Ransom pioneered in the late ‘80s. It’s only marginally different from the one before it, choosing to refine systems and expand in size instead of entirely overhauling how anything works. But when you kicked so much butt the first time, why change your technique? The details of how and why the Yakuza that Kyoko and Misako thought they’d chased out of the city in the previous game are back are shaky, but they and their punchable faces have taken over the school and all the local hangout

Microsoft Exec Says Xbox's Activision Deal Is Fair Because PlayStation Has Way More Exclusives

Microsoft president and vice chairman Brad Smith has said Xbox's acquisition of Activision Blizzard is fair because PlayStation has significantly more exclusive games. As reported by Bloomberg , Smith said during an annual shareholders meeting that Microsoft would present Sony's dominant position in the market as one reason for why its $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard should go through. The company will defend its colossal deal in court after The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced earlier in December that it would seek to block it . "The FTC’s case is really based on a market that they’ve identified that they say has two companies and two products, Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox," Smith said. "If you look at the global market, Sony has 70% of that market, and we have 30%. So the first thing a judge is going to have to decide is whether the FTC lawsuit is a case that will promote competition or is it really instead of case that w
