We’ve scoured the galaxy far and wide in order to put together this helpful list of the 8 Best Side Quests that we’ve found in Starfield so far: These Starfield Side Quests (or Side Missions) can be easy to miss, so make sure you seek them out for a cool reward: Either a good story or a good ship , weapon , a crew member , or just lotsa credits. Note that while much of Starfield is randomly generated, what we’ll point you to here is not – you should be able to start these quests by simply going to the right place. The missions we’ve selected either reward you with something great or involve interesting characters and storylines that you might miss if you don’t know where to look. We’ll tell you how to start each quest as well as what makes them so noteworthy, but we’ll try to keep spoilers to a minimum so that you can enjoy the surprises that they have in store for you when you play them for yourself. Pacific Drive's Stylish Looks Mask a Terrifying Survival Adventure

As I veer off-road towards a long-abandoned gas station, my heart skips a beat. Was that… a person? No, I tell myself, it couldn’t be. I kill the engine. Shutting the car door and walking sheepishly down the once unassuming dirt road, I clutch my crowbar tightly as my mind begins to race. While I’ve spent the last half an hour happily scouring abandoned cabins along the forest, this quiet summer night didn’t seem eerie, just still. Now as I sneak through the trees just a few feet further down from where I was moments ago, that sense of calm evaporates, overtaken by a creeping unease. When I sat down to play Pacific Drive at WASD , I mistook it for an atmospheric walking simulator. In reality, Ironwood Studio’s forest opus is something far more sinister. Part survival game, part narrative-led horror, you may recognise Pacific Drive as “that weird nightrider car game from E3”. Yet while the slightly beat up set of wheels took centre stage in all the trailers, this first-person project

Mortal Kombat 1 Review

If there was a Mount Rushmore for fighting games, you can be sure that either Scorpion, Sub-Zero, or Liu Kang’s face would be on that rock. For more than 30 years, Mortal Kombat has been ripping spines and severing heads, and the latest, Mortal Kombat 1, represents perhaps the most dramatic gameplay shift the series has ever seen. The new Kameo system offers an unparalleled level of player expression for the series, allowing you to essentially break the usual rules of the game by giving characters tools that they weren’t designed to have, resulting in a uniquely dynamic fighting system that allows for some truly wild combos and set ups. Everything built around that system apart from the predictably excellent story mode could’ve used some more polish and refinement, but even with those blemishes, Mortal Kombat 1 more than lives up to its gory legacy. If there’s one thing you can applaud Netherrealm for in recent years, it’s how each new Mortal Kombat game since MK9 has played dramati

Ape Out Creators' Next Game, Baby Steps, Gets a Release Window of Next Summer

The next game from the Ape Out creators, Baby Steps, just got a narrowed release window for next year during today's State of Play - it's coming out in the summer of 2024. Baby Steps is the most literal interpretation of a walking simulator possible: you play as Nate, a man who, well, walks. And wears a onesie? The game features "fully-simulated physics-based walking" where you control every aspect of Nate putting one foot in front of the other in minute detail as he puts one foot in front of the other. Everything he does is fully physically simulated though, so he'll probably fall down a lot as you take Nate on a trek up a "mountain-sized mountain" with a dynamic soundtrack and "soilage system" ensuring your onesie gets fully and appropriately dirty. The whole thing is narrated over by the developers in what the team is calling a "seat of your pants" approach in its description of the story with "unconventional editing.&qu

Hades 2 to Hit Early Access in Spring 2024

Hades II will be released in Early Access next spring. Supergiant Games announced in a blog post today that the sequel to the award-winning 2020 indie roguelite dunegon crawler will be released in Early Access exclusively on Steam and Epic Games Store in Q2 of 2024, so sometime between next April and June. The anticipated sequel released its first trailer during its reveal announcement at last year's Game Awards and in its blog post today, Supergiant anticipated responses along the lines of "the game looked pretty far along in the first trailer!" "The reason [for the wait] is, Hades II will have at least as much content from day one in Early Access as the original game did back when it launched in Early Access on Steam," Supergiant said. "And, even though Early Access inherently means a game is not yet complete, we still want to do everything we can to make sure Hades 2 is worth your while as soon as you can play it in any capacity." Unity Acknowledges 'Confusion and Frustration' Among Developers But Won't Walk Back Install Fee Plan

Game developers are still furious about Unity's planned install fees , but the platform holder is holding fast to its new policy, arguing that "90 percent of [Unity] customers will not be affected by this change. Ackowledging the "confusion and frustration" stemming from the proposed runtime fees, Unity sought to clarify questions about how the company defines and counts installs — one of the major sticking points around the new policy. Unity has previously said that it will charge $0.20 per install for any game with more than 200,000 installs, raising questions about multiple installs, Game Pass, and other issues. We want to acknowledge the confusion and frustration we heard after we announced our new runtime fee policy. We’d like to clarify some of your top questions and concerns: Who is impacted by this price increase: The price increase is very targeted. In fact, more than 90% of our… — Unity (@unity) September 13, 2023 Unity claims it will only count &

Mortal Kombat 1 Review in Progress

I just got my hands on Mortal Kombat 1 a few days ago, so a full review won’t be ready for a little bit, but it’s already making a strong impression. If there’s one thing you can applaud Netherrealm for with regards to the gameplay system of each new Mortal Kombat game since MK9, it’s that each one plays dramatically different from the last without sacrificing that very distinct Mortal Kombat feel. So it’s not surprising that, even before we get to the crazy Kameo system, Mortal Kombat 1 makes some drastic changes from MK11 that really set it apart. For starters, it returns the meter management to just one meter that governs enhanced special moves, breakers, and now jump cancels out of uppercuts; fatal blows are still around, but are no longer invincible on start up; krushing blows are gone completely; character variations are gone; wake up attacks and wake up rolls are gone; every character is now able to do much more damage without even spending any meter thanks to a new air comb

Starfield Gets Nvidia Update to Improve PC Performance

Nvidia has released an update that aims to improve Starfield performance. The update targets performance on RTX 30 and 40-series cards. In a blog post , Nvidia said internal tests showed 40-series GPUs see on average a 5% increase in performance. “Today, Nvidia is releasing a Resizable BAR profile for Starfield which increases performance on GeForce RTX 40 Series and GeForce RTX 30 Series desktop and laptop GPUs,” Nvidia said. “In our testing scenario, GeForce RTX 40 Series desktop GPUs see on average a 5% increase in performance. The Starfield Resizable BAR update will be pushed via an Over-The-Air (OTA) update from NVIDIA and will be automatically applied for gamers running the latest Game Ready Driver (537.34) or the previous release (537.17).” The tech experts at Digital Foundry have said Starfield is a “bizarrely worse experience” on Nvidia and Intel compared with AMD. This ‘over-the-air’ update will be welcomed, then, by those playing Bethesda’s space role-playing game on

PS5 Update Out Today — Here’s What It Does

Sony has released an update globally for PlayStation 5 that adds new accessibility, audio, and social features. The Sims 5 Will Be ‘Free to Download,’ EA Confirms

In some big Sims news today, EA has confirmed that The Sims 5, codenamed Project Rene, will be “free to download when it's ready." “This means that when Project Rene is ready and fully open to players, you will be able to join, play and explore it without a subscription, core game purchase or energy mechanics,” EA elaborated in a blog post today during a new Behind the Sims presentation. “We want playing to be super easy for you to invite or join friends and experience new features, stories and challenges.” The blog post went on to say that the next Sims game won’t replace The Sims 4, but that the two will exist “side by side": "We will continue to support both at the same time and will plan to bring more exciting content to The Sims 4 community for the foreseeable future,” it added. EA further clarified that Project Rene “won’t begin with everything you have in The Sims 4," but they "plan to add new experiences and content to Project Rene over time

Why Unity's New Install Fees Are Spurring Massive Backlash Among Game Developers

Game developers aren't happy with a new policy from Unity that will cost developers a small fee every time someone downloads a game built on Unity's game engine. It's called the Unity Runtime Fee, and the new pricing model will apply to developers who reach a certain amount of installs and revenue. "We are introducing a Unity Runtime Fee that is based upon each time a qualifying game is downloaded by an end user," Unity's announcement reads in part. "We chose this because each time a game is downloaded, the Unity Runtime is also installed. Also we believe that an initial install-based fee allows creators to keep the ongoing financial gains from player engagement, unlike a revenue share." The Unity Runtime Fee is scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2024, and it's been universally panned by developers on social media since its announcement earlier today. The First Descendant: Sharen Character Revealed

The First Descendant is an upcoming next-gen looter shooter, built using Unreal Engine 5, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Nexon has just introduced Sharen Julicia, a half-woman, half-machine hero that's going to deal some serious damage up close. Check out her gameplay reveal trailer above. Gameplay-wise, Sharen uses camoflauge on approach and retreat in order to get in up close, where she is particularly lethal. Her passive skills include Assassinator, in which she does more damage to enemies who are not targeting her. Her active skills, meanwhile, include: Cutoff Beam, which is an electric beam attack that adds an Electrocution effect; Active Camoflauge, which obviously hides her until she attacks. But when it ends, it triggers Ambush mode, which ups the damage of her next attack. Sharen also has Shock Nuts, which launches stun-inducing explosives; and Flash Daggers, which target enemies within aiming range and sends multiple shortswords fling towards the target's loca

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Preview: A Return To Form

With the past few games in the series it's felt like Assassin’s Creed has lost a little bit of what made it so special back when it launched in the late 2000’s. Don’t get me wrong: Odyssey and Valhalla were extremely solid RPGs that offered a vast and unique setting and a definite bang for your buck in the runtime department, but there’s something about those games that didn’t necessarily feel necessarily “Assassin’s Creed” due to their hefty open-world settings and heavy RPG gameplay mechanics. Thankfully, the next installment in the franchise is Mirage, and based on my playtime with it so far, it manages to capture what made the series so special and brings the social stealth history simulator back to its roots in the best way possible. Gone are the vast vistas of England, the oceanic traversal of Greece, and pyramid-scaling of Egypt in favor of a dense and populated Baghdad full of life and vibrancy. That’s not to say Mirage ever felt small, but from the few hours I played I

CD Projekt Warns Cyberpunk PC Players to Check Their Cooling Systems Ahead of Phantom Liberty Launch

Ahead of the launch of the Phantom Liberty expansion and 2.0 update for Cyberpunk 2077, developer CD Projekt has warned PC players to double-check their rigs are up to the task. Lead scene programmer Filip Pierściński took to X to ask Cyberpunk PC players to check their cooling systems in particular. “We use all that you have, so workload on CPU 90% on 8 core is expected,” Pierściński said. “To save your time please run Cinebench or similar and check stability of your systems.” Cinebench is a free cross-platform test suite that evaluates your computer's hardware capabilities. Pierściński focused on cooling systems due to concern players may hit “thermal throttling”, which in turn may result in poor performance or even crashes. In June, CD Projekt updated Cyberpunk's PC system requirements , highlighting the game will support SSDs for minimum requirements going forward. The developer said the changes were designed to be more up to date ( given the expansion is launching
