You Can Work for and Even Betray Jabba the Hutt in Star Wars Outlaws

Developers from Ubisoft Massive and their compatriots over at LucasFilm shared a number of new details today with IGN at San Diego Comic-Con regarding Star Wars: Outlaws and the two locations revealed for the game thus far: the new moon Toshara, and Tatooine. Including, yes, that you can both work for and betray (if you want) Jabba the Hutt. Speaking to IGN, director Julian Gerighty says that Toshara is inspired by the eastern African savannah, and was specifically designed with heroine Kay Vess' speeder (which yes, is at least somewhat customizable) in mind, with lots of wide, open plains. The team even visited Tanzania for inspiration. "We start off with a biome, in this case, southeast African biomes as an inspiration, and then you put a twist on it to make it feel a little bit alien," Gerighty said. "If you think of the first shots, maybe not the first shots, but the first the shots of Tatooine. Beautiful, recognizable architecture, but two suns. For us, it...

Hideo Kojima Is Teasing Something Death Stranding-Related on Twitter

Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima seems to be teasing something very Death Stranding-related on his Twitter account, which may be related either to Death Stranding 2, or to the upcoming Death Stranding film adaptation. pic.twitter.com/dhua32CKzu — 小島秀夫 (@Kojima_Hideo) July 22, 2023 In a tweet posted last night, Kojima shared multiple photos of what appear to be a motion capture (mocap) stage with an actor moving around several large prop boulders. The stage is surrounded by what looks like an enormous LED wall similar to what was used to film The Mandalorian , except this one has what is clearly a Death Stranding background. On it, we can see snowy mountains, multiple BTs in the distance, a small campsite with multiple tents, and a completely unknown new figure looming large on the left-hand side that could be anything: a new enemy, a new ally, a new boss, a weird mech...it's impossible to say. We're short on details of exactly what's going on here, but we can le...

How to Build a Mecha in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Image
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom introduced an array of new gameplay mechanics before the game's official launch, one of which was the ability to build an incredible amount of vehicles, devices, and contraptions. Anything you could think of, you could build — within reason, of course. But even that original reveal of the building mechanics had me thinking; can you build a mecha in this game? The second I got my giant robot-pilled hands on the game, I knew what I had to do. Hyrule can deal with its problems on its own, at least until I could get my hands on a working mech suit. If you need help building the basics, like a hot air balloon , a car , or a boat , we've got guides for that too. Don't forget that you'll also need to get plenty of Energy Cell Upgrades in order to power your giant robot. The basic components of the mech are: 2x Cart 1x Stabilizer 1x Steering Stick 2x Big Wheel 2x Small Wheel 4x Portable Pot 4x Construct Head 4x Weapons (Fl...

NetherRealm Studios Explains How Next-Gen Consoles Enhance Small Details in Mortal Kombat 1

NetherRealm Studios appeared at San Diego Comic-Con to discuss its upcoming game Mortal Kombat 1, including how PlayStation and Xbox's next-gen consoles help enhance the small details found in the game. During the panel, Thiago Gomes, the art development director at NetherRealm Studios, elaborated on how the ninth generation of home gaming consoles allows the studio to show more little details and interactions in the costumes and levels. "With the new consoles, we have a lot more power to show a lot more little interactions, including the little robot that comes in and cleans up all the blood," Gomes said. Little details, such as the stitches on Li Mei's costume, are also noticeable, thanks to the power of the new consoles. Gomes also explained how the environments are lush and really pop when visible. The panel also showed some visual aids to illustrate the point, such as a living forest, but also reassured fans that there will be classic Mortal Kombat levels. ...

NetherRealm Studios revealed Mortal Kombat 1's new roster additions during its San Diego Comic-Con panel, which featured several members of the development team alongside series director Ed Boon. Calm Down Everyone, Insomniac Didn't Change Mary Jane's Face in Spider-Man 2

Fans of the Spider-Man video games from Insomniac already have a bit of a history of being weird about unimportant, minute details in the games. This tendancy almost reared its ugly head again this week after a new Spider-Man 2 trailer debuted at Comic-Con, as fans were convinced that Insomniac had done something drastic to change Mary Jane's face from the original game. No, they didn't. It's the same face, same model, same actress. Everyone calm down! The issue was addressed on Twitter today by Insomniac director, community and marketing, James Stevenson, who confirmed to multiple people that MJ remains unchanged. Her haircut is different in the sequel, and it's entirely possible that improved face scanning tech has made her model more accurate, but it's the same face. The good news is, everyone seems to be taking the correction in stride . A thread on the SpidermanPS4 subreddit has community members largely responding positively to the news, with one es...

Thanks for the Memories, Xbox Live Gold

When I think of Xbox Live Gold, I think of nothing but good things. So, so many good things. Obviously, Xbox’s paid online multiplayer service carries on (albeit with the somewhat confusing Xbox Game Pass Core), but the original branding – Xbox Live Gold – is no more. I thought I’d take a few minutes to share some of the wonderful games and moments that come to mind when I think about those three words. It starts at the beginning, back in November of 2002 (well, technically it started a little earlier than that with the Xbox Live Beta, but that’s a splitting of the hairs that’s not relevant to this column). I’d been a dedicated PC gamer for as long as online multiplayer gaming had been a thing up until I joined the staff of Official Xbox Magazine back in October of 2002. I was used to server browsers, and trying to get a decent ping on my dial-up modem with Quake 1’s QuakeWorld client. I will always associate my most positive memories of Xbox Live Gold with a small handful of games...

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 New Trailer Gives Closer Look at Venom

Today at San Diego Comic Con, we got a look at a brand new trailer for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 that focused on our first in-depth look at Venom, as well as showed Harry Osborn, Mister Negative, and more. The trailer opens on a conversation between Peter Parker and Harry Osborn, the latter of whom talks about being given a second chance and how Peter will "heal the world." Peter then introduced Harry to some friends, including Mary Jane and Miles Morales, who questions whether or not Peter will have time for "tutoring" (you know, being Spider-Man) now that he has a new job as a teacher. From there, we get looks at Kraven the Hunter as he chases the Spider-Men around New York, and Miles confronting Mister Negative, who we know from the previous games killed his father. And then, there's a lot of Venom, the symbiote, and its growing negative impacts on Peter Parker and his relationships with his friends and family ( which we also heard about during today...

BREAKING: Introducing the Spider-Man 2 PS5 console and controller, available for pre-order next Friday #SDCC pic.twitter.com/AEoQVMdXph — IGN (@IGN) July 20, 2023 In the hall, attendees saw the PS5 and controller in person at a distance, but both looked pretty incredible, and a PlayStation blog post dropped moments later showing both off in all their glory. The PS5 is black, appearing to close around the splash of red from the bottom corner and a white Spider-Man logo. The controller appears to be nearly fully "taken over" with the logo in the center and the red off to the right side. Remnant 2 Review

When you look back at the history of new games and their sequels, oftentimes it’s not until the second attempt at a bold new idea that things really hit their stride. Following in the footsteps of breakthrough sequels like Borderlands 2 and Assassin’s Creed 2 before it, Remnant 2 iterates on the original to phenomenal effect. Combat is even smoother and more satisfying, loot and buildcrafting have been greatly improved to allow for countless possibilities and reasons to grind, boss fights have been completely overhauled to ditch spongy bosses aided by endless waves of minions, and each of the realms feel diverse and brimming with things to do and secrets to uncover. But procedurally generated, impressively replayable levels remain its killer feature, and here they have been improved in so many ways that it's alarmingly easy to lose half a day by jumping back into the same area just to see other possibilities. We don’t have to wait for the next one: when it comes to games, the seco...
