Spider-Man: Miles Morales Has No Chrysler Building Due to Copyright Issues

Image
If you have been swinging around New York City in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, you may have noticed that the iconic Chrysler Building has been replaced by a generic skyscraper. Even though the Chrysler Building has appeared in 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man and other Marvel media, copyright issues prevented its inclusion in Insomniac's latest adventure. As reported by Game Informer, the Chrysler Building went under new ownership in 2019 and no agreement was made before the launch of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="800"] Image via Game Informer[/caption] Since 2008, the Abu Dhabi Investment Council, which is an investment arm of the Abu Dhabi government, owned 90% of the building while the New York-based real estate investment company Tishman Speyer Properties owned 10% and managed the building. In January 2019, the Chrysler Building was put up for sale and it was co-purchased by the Austr

Spider-Man: Miles Morales Names a Street After Chadwick Boseman

Image
Update (11/21/20) - Reddit user RollieDell has discovered that a street in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales was named after the late Chadwick Boseman. Chadwick Way has replaced 42nd Street in Miles Morales for PS5, and can be found between 1st and 3rd Avenue. The number 42 has a lot of meaning for both Boseman, as he starred as Jackie Robinson in the film 42. Furthermore, the number 42 appears in both the original Miles Morales comic and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as an homage to Robinson. Original story follows. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Spider-Man: Miles Morales includes tributes to two Marvel titans - Chadwick Boseman and Stan Lee - with a particularly heartfelt message for the king of Wakanda. In the newest Marvel's Spider-Man game, players will find all kinds of easter eggs and references to the greater Marvel universe. But one tribute isn't hidden at all but is one that certainly pulls at the heartstrings. Small Spoilers for Spider-Man: M

A Copy of Super Mario Bros. 3 Just Sold for a World Record-Setting $156,000

Image
A sealed copy of NES' Super Mario Bros. 3 has sold for $156,000 USD and has set the world record for the highest price paid for a video game at auction. On November 20, Heritage Auctions sold a sealed copy of 1990's Super Mario Bros. 3 for $156,000 and surpassed the sale of NES' Super Mario Bros. from earlier this year that sold for $114,000 USD. The bidding for this rare copy of Super Mario Bros. 3 began at $62,000 USD, and 20 bidders fought for the chance to purchase it and, in doing so, also made this the world's first-ever million-dollar video-game auction. "While the condition of the game is remarkable, what makes this copy even more singular is the layout of the packaging itself: Exceedingly rare are sealed copies with the word "Bros." formatted to the left, covering one of Mario's signature white gloves," A press release from Heritage Auctions stated. "Collectors have spent years looking for such a version — the earliest in the Su

[Editor's Note: To best serve the different communities of Call of Duty, we've split our review into three components: the Single-Player Campaign, the competitive Multiplayer, and Zombies. Below you'll find the final Verdicts from each review that will give you an overview of the full Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War package, along with links to the full in-depth reviews of each.] Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Single-Player Campaign Review [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/13/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-campaign-review"] Verdict:  Call of Duty’s moment-to-moment gameplay is still primarily a well-dressed shooting gallery, but Black Ops Cold War succeeds in making its quiet time a defining part of its experience rather than just a deep breath between the loud and explode-y sequences. Its story is less successful at leaving a Black Ops 1-level mark, but the importance placed on finding and deciphering evidence as well as the multiple endings

Nintendo Isn't Expecting Hyrule Warriors to Become Its Own Series After Age of Calamity

Despite being the second game of its kind, Nintendo isn't expecting Hyrule Warriors to become its own spin-off series after Age of Calamity – but we could see another installment if the right idea comes along. IGN got the chance to speak to Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity producer Yosuke Hayashi, and I asked whether – after two Hyrule Warriors installments – they were considering making this its own standalone series, alongside mainline Zelda games. "I do think circumstances could align like this again," explained Eiji Aonuma, "but I don't think we're expecting this to become a series. We'd make that decision based on its creative merits, just like we did this time." "I think it depends on whether we get an idea that'll make all the fans happy!", added Hayashi. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/hyrule-warriors-age-of-calamity-review"] I asked if, on a wider level, Nintendo was now

Rocket League Developer Says 120 FPS Is a 'Minor Patch' on Xbox Series, But a 'Full Native Port' on PS5

Rocket League developer Psyonix has said that while adding 120 FPS to the Xbox Series version of the game is a "minor patch," it would require a "full native port" on PS5. Speaking to Eurogamer , a spokesperson for the developer noted that this was due to the way backwards compatibility works on Sony's next-gen console. "Enabling 120hz on Xbox Series X|S is a minor patch, but enabling it on PS5 requires a full native port due to how backwards compatibility is implemented on the console, and unfortunately wasn't possible due to our focus elsewhere." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/16/how-to-switch-from-ps4-version-games-to-ps5"] Psyonix has been focusing on the game's "free to play transition" and updating the game's Tournament system instead. It paints a troublesome picture for backwards-compatibile PS4 games receiving 120 FPS updates on the PS5, going forward. A similar Eurogamer report from last wee

Sony Says There's 'News to Come' on a PlayStation Response to Xbox Game Pass

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan says there's "news to come" on a PlayStation response to Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft's popular subscription-based games service. In an interview with TASS , Ryan was asked about how PlayStation will respond to Game Pass, which has become an increasingly attractive value proposition for Xbox in recent years. While not explaining exactly what the response will be, Ryan did make clear that, "There is actually news to come, but just not today." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=28-best-xbox-game-pass-games&captions=true"] Ryan went on to point out that PlayStation already has its Now subscription service. He is presumably also not talking about the existing PS Plus Collection , which bundles a number of classic PlayStation games into the cost of a PS Plus subscription. Likely, any further response would either be a new service, or an addition to one of the above. PlayStation 5: The Accessibility Review

Accessibility has come a long way from the last generation of consoles to the new one. It’s easy to forget that in seven short years, ‘accessibility’ has gone from a barely recognized word in the gaming lexicon to it being a foundation of the next generation. The PS5 is a good example of years worth of accessibility efforts. The foundation is there, and there are a few holes to fill, but it’s functionally far better than what was available on the PS4 when it first launched in 2013. Booting Up These efforts are apparent from the initial boot-up of the system where the text-to-speech screen reader activates after 60 seconds, to help guide Blind players through the setup process. While this is not exclusive to this generation, the screen reader is now available globally and incorporates multiple languages. The screen reader works flawlessly, and all forms of text are readable, with the ability to adjust speed, volume, and voice type (male or female). [widget path="global/article/i

Xbox-Exclusive CrossfireX Delayed to 2021

The upcoming Xbox exclusive first-person shooter CrossfireX has been delayed to 2021. It was originally slated to launch sometime in 2020. Unsurprisingly, the delay is attributed to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic as the development team at Smilegate have faced challenges developing remotely, according to a recent tweet . An important announcement regarding #CrossfireX 's development: pic.twitter.com/8L1qzgcHvw — CrossfireX (@PlayCrossfireX) November 19, 2020 It’s unclear if the delay is specifically due to the multiplayer side of the game facing issues, as the single-player side of the game is being developed by Remedy Entertainment  (creators of Control and the Alan Wake franchise). Earlier this year, we had a chance to get hands-on with both the single-player portion of the game as well as the separate free-to-play multiplayer mode . Cyberpunk 2077 Night City Wire: Johnny Silverhand, Music, and Animation Details Revealed

The fifth episode of Night City Wire, the official livestream for Cyberpunk 2077, has revealed new details on Keanu Reeves’ Johnny Silverhand character, as well as provided behind-the-scenes looks at how the game’s 90’s-inspired soundtrack was created, and how the hundreds of characters are animated. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/19/cyberpunk-2077-johnny-silverhand-trailer"] Johnny Silverhand is a key character from the tabletop Cyberpunk game, and CD Projekt Red considers him a “co-protagonist” of the video game. Played by Keanu Reeves, he is both a rockstar and ex-military, has his own specific agenda in the game, and players will find that many quests are to further his ambitions rather than their own. CDPR considered many approaches for bringing Silverhand to life before it cast Keanu Reeves in the role, including rock band frontmen. Interestingly, it even considered bringing a rock star back from the dead in animated form for the role, although the

Cyberpunk 2077: The Final Preview

It took me roughly six hours of playing to reach Cyberpunk 2077’s opening title card. That was six hours of the 16 I got to play earlier this week, and even after countless adrenaline-filled shootouts, compelling conversations, and weirdly abundant dildos, I feel like I only just started to scratch below the surface of what’s here. Night City is dense and stunning, and this mammoth RPG is packed with a multitude of mechanics to explore and a copious amount of choice in doing so. As with any game this ambitious and broad, some parts do shine brighter than others (and the frequent bugs in this still-in-development build made me glad it didn’t launch today as previously planned ) – but once Cyberpunk 2077 kicked off in earnest, it clicked , and now I just want more. Ahead of its launch on December 10, developer CD Projekt Red let me go hands-on for a full 16 hours spread across two days – I started from the very beginning, picking from its three lifepaths (I went Corpo, which IGN’s Ryan

Nintendo Says Game Piracy Is a 'Worsening Problem'

Nintendo says game piracy is a "serious, worsening international problem" in its latest lawsuit against a Nintendo Switch hack seller. Nintendo of America has filed a lawsuit against Amazon seller, Le Hoang Minh, for circumventing Nintendo's copyright protections by selling an RCM Loader that essentially hacks into the Nintendo Switch to jailbreak it, as reported by Polygon . This gives users the ability to easily pirate games. This lawsuit, which was filed Wednesday, is just the latest in a line of many from the company against hack sellers. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/07/23/nintendo-issues-lawsuits-to-multiple-emulator-sites"] "Plaintiff Nintendo of America Inc. brings this action against Defendant Le Hoang Minh, d/b/a Winmart for circumvention of a technological protection measure that controls access to a copyrighted work and trafficking in devices intended to circumvent technological protection measures," a court document reads.
