The speedy little blue blur has been around for over three decades, touching every corner of pop culture along the way, from games, to comics, to TV, to blockbuster movies. But we’re here specifically to celebrate the mainline Sonic game series and pick the best of them. Before we start, let’s quickly touch upon our criteria. We tried to rank these games based on a combination of historical significance, innovation, and how well these games stand the test of time. When you look at the current landscape of games today, we have new horror franchises popping up and expanding the genre in terrifying new ways. Meanwhile, classic franchises like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Dead Space continue to build on their horrific legacy with new entries of their own.

As horror in other forms of entertainment have evolved beyond traditonal zombies and ghouls, games in the genre have expanded with their own grotesque and haunting creatures. With Halloween around the corner, we are compiling a list of our favorite horror games for an IGN Face-Off, and we want to include your suggestions. We've held several IGN Face-Offs covering categories like best Final Fantasy party member, best Star Wars Video game, and even the most iconic Nicolas Cage Performance.

So which horror game is your favorite? Do you prefer Resident Evil 2 or Silent Hill 2? Fatal Frame? Amnesia: Dark Descent?
