PlayStation State of Play (June 2022) - How to Watch and What to Expect

Sony has announced a summer State of Play broadcast – showing off upcoming PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2 games – and it's coming as soon as tomorrow, June 2.

IGN is carrying the stream and, as usual, this watch guide will provide you with everything you need to know to watch the show, including when it starts, a list of places you can watch it with us, and what you can expect to see at the show.

PlayStation State of Play (June 2022) Start Time

The upcoming State of Play will take place Tomorow, June 2 at 3pm PT/6pm ET/11pm BST, and looks to run for “nearly 30 minutes.” If you live in Australia, that translates to June 3 at 8am AEST. Tune in early for a live pre-show featuring the cast of IGN's PlayStation show, Podcast Beyond!, and a post-show where the cast breaks down what we loved, what we didn't see, and much more.

What to Expect at the Upcoming PlayStation State of Play (June 2022)

The show promises reveals from Sony's third-party partners and "a sneak peek at several games in development for PlayStation VR2". It doesn't sound as though PlayStation first-party exclusives will be a huge part of this particular broadcast, but these shows have been known for their surprises. Will we get a new look at God of War Ragnarok or a release date? Only time will tell, but don’t get your hopes up too high!

It has been some time since we’ve learned more about Final Fantasy 16, and the game’s producer Naoki Yoshida recently said that a new trailer is finished but was delayed due to “various circumstances.”

It's worth noting that Sony has recently distinguished between its State of Play broadcasts – shorter broadcasts, with announcements often grouped along a theme – and its PlayStation Showcase event.

As for PlayStation VR 2, we know the new virtual reality headset will have “20 plus first-party and third-party titles” at launch. We don’t know what these games will be, but it has been revealed that Horizon: Call of the Mountain will be a big first-party exclusive at some point. Many are also hoping Astro makes a return as Astro Bot: Rescue Mission was one of the most beloved games on the original hardware.

Many are also hoping PSVR2 will be a new home for Half-Life: Alyx, a VR game we gave a 10/10 and said that it “has set a new bar for VR in interactivity, detail, and level design, showing what can happen when a world-class developer goes all-in on the new frontier of technology.”

The digital Showcase replaced what used to Sony's in-person E3 conference, typically its biggest and most notable reveal of upcoming games and announcements. Last year, Sony waited until September for its full Showcase, which included the first gameplay of God of War: Ragnarok, teases for Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine games, a Knights of the Old Republic remake, and much more.
