Blizzard Has 'Multiple' Warcraft Mobile Games In Development

For years there have been rumors that Activision Blizzard is working on a Warcraft-inspired mobile game . Today, company CEO Bobby Kotick confirmed that there are in fact “multiple” mobile Warcraft experiences in “advanced development” at Blizzard. During the latest financial earnings call, Kotick spoke to investors and shared plans to expand upon the Warcraft franchise by delivering “more frequent premium content.” As part of this strategy, Blizzard is deep in development on, not one, but multiple free-to-play Warcraft experiences for mobile. “In our Warcraft franchise, we intend to deliver more frequent premium content to sustain and expand the World of Warcraft community,” Kotick said to investors. “And we’ve made multiple, mobile, free-to-play Warcraft experiences and they’re now in advanced development based on our franchise’s beloved IP.” [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-world-of-warcraft-review&captions=true"] Kot...

How Monster Hunter Rise Appeals to Newcomers

Image
When you release a game like Monster Hunter: World, it’s hard to go back. While Monster Hunter has always been a massive success in Japan, it was originally a more niche series in the West. But now that World has officially become Capcom’s best selling game of all time , with more than 16 million copies sold as of September 2020 (and we’re not even counting Monster Hunter World: Iceborne’s additional 7.2 million units ), it’s safe to say that Monster Hunter has become a worldwide phenomenon. Back in 2017, after the success of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Nintendo’s Eiji Aonuma suggested that Breath of the Wild might become “the basis” for future entries in the series , and it seems that Capcom is taking a similar approach with World for Monster Hunter’s foreseeable future. It’s no coincidence that Monster Hunter Rise, Capcom’s newest installment in the series developed exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, is a seamless hunting experience with maps of approximately the same ...

EVE Online Breaks Its Own Guinness World Record for the Costliest Video Game Battle in History

Image
EVE Online, the popular spacefaring MMO, just witnessed its biggest and most costly battle in the game’s history, setting a Guinness World Record in the process. “The Massacre at M2-XFE” cost two of EVE Online’s biggest factions an estimated total of $378,012. The battle was part of an ongoing universe-spanning war that's cost $700,000 in total. On December 31, 2020, 5,000 players EVE’s PAPI and Imperium factions collided in the game’s M2-XFE region near a “Keepstar” (a sort of extra large space station) when PAPI forces began firing upon docked Imperium ships. Earlier in the day, a lone Imperium pilot managed to disable a “cyno jammer,” allowing the Imperium to bring in additional reinforcements. The ensuing battle lasted approximately 14 hours, with both factions losing supercapital ships (the largest kind in-game, roughly the size of seven Empire State buildings) at a relatively equal rate. Fighting only ceased when EVE was scheduled to go offline for downtime maintenance. ...

Activision Sued for Allegedly Stealing Call of Duty Character's Likeness

Image
Activision, Infinity Ward, and Major League Gaming Corp. (MLG) have all been hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit that claims the companies were responsible for  making a direct copy of a character for use in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. As reported by TorrentFreak, the plaintiff of the lawsuit, Clayton Haugen, alleges that the design of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Mara character was stolen from Haugen's Cade Janus, a central figure in his story November Renaissance. [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="1151"] Image Credit: Torrent Freak[/caption] In 2017, Haugen hired actress, cosplayer, and Twitch streamer Alex Zedra to portray Cade Janus, and he took a series of photographs of her and his story to film studios in hopes of making November Renaissance into a film. The photos were also posted on Instagram and in a series of calendars. While developing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, these companies hired Alex Zedra to help create a ...
