Skull Island: Rise of Kong Video Game Officially Announced

UPDATE: Skull Island: Rise of Kong is now officially announced. It launches later this year on consoles and PC.

Skull Island: Rise of Kong is developed by IguanaBee Studios and published by GameMill Entertainment. Here's the official blurb: "Take on an action-packed quest to avenge the death of Kong’s parents at the hands of the ultimate alpha predator: the saurian terror Gaw. Traverse the mysterious island and uncover its secrets across a variety of treacherous environments, discovering the power coursing through its exotic flora and fauna. Conquer waves of primal beasts, defeat unique bosses, and rise above all who stand in Kong’s way to being King!"

And here's the debut trailer:

The £44.99 Colossal Edition includes eight exclusive film grains that grant a red-tinted rage mode and the original look of the classic 1933 and 1970s era King Kong films, as well as the Kong color pack with 10 different colors so you can choose-your-own Kong color, and a boss-rush mode.

ORIGINAL STORY: A new third-person action adventure game called Skull Island: Rise of Kong has been leaked via an online retailer.

First spotted by Gematsu, Amazon Spain posted listings for Skull Island: Rise of Kong for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox consoles. The game is apparently being developed by GameMill Entertainment, the same company that published Avatar: The Last Airbender: Quest for Balance and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl.

The product description on Amazon Spain reads: “Embark on a 3rd person action adventure to avenge your parents' death at the hands of the ultimate alpha predator: Gaw. Conquer waves of primeval beasts and defeat your archenemy's minions to become the rightful king of Skull Island. Traverse the mysterious island and discover the history and secrets it hides as you stumble upon swamps, waterfalls, jungle and caves full of skullites that empower the island's flora and fauna.”

Gaw refers to the female leader of the fictional dinosaur race called Deathrunners on Skull Island. The Deathrunners appeared in the 2005 novel Kong: King of Skull Island and the Kong of Skull Island comic book series.

The listing also mentions December 2024 as its release date, but that’s most likely a placeholder. GameMill Entertainment has not officially revealed this game yet. It’s possible the studio will announce at the upcoming Gamescom event taking place in August or perhaps further down the road in December at the Game Awards.
