Zelda Fan Creates Epic Godzilla Movie Entirely Within Tears of the Kingdom's Building System

In the months since The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's release, I thought maybe we'd seen it all. From a perpetual flight machine to classic cars to satellite laser cannons, Zelda fans have used TOTK's wildly customizable crafting mechanics to unleash both their creativity and their chaos.

But one fan and film buff, going by @sumoguri2323 on X/Twitter, has created a whole Godzilla film entirely within Tears of the Kingdom, and it's genuinely a sight to behold. You can watch the brief but epic short film below (or click here if the embed isn't working for you).

The thoughtfully crafted and edited video is complete with music and sound effects, and sees Lurelin Village contending with what I'm going to call Zonai Zilla. The iconic kaiju is recreated using Zonai materials and devices and the Ultrahand ability, and is seen marching through the water to wreak havoc on the poor village.

Tanks fire cannons at Zonai Zilla, but they're little match as he rains fire down on the village, leaving it in ruins before descending back into the ocean. The creativity! The cinematography! The editing! It's all pretty fantastic, already racking up 1.7 million views at press time on X/Twitter.

It's also something of a loving tribute to classic Toho Godzilla movies, with the kaiju having such a big year. Apple TV+ recently released MonterVerse series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters to positive reviews, Godzilla Minus One hits international theaters this Friday, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is set to debut next year.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, meanwhile, has a number of nominations at next month's Game Awards, including Game of the Year and Best Action/Adventure Game. IGN gave it a 10/10 back in May, with Tom Marks calling it "an unfathomable follow-up, expanding a world that already felt full beyond expectation and raising the bar ever higher into the clouds."

Alex Stedman is a Senior News Editor with IGN, overseeing entertainment reporting. When she's not writing or editing, you can find her reading fantasy novels or playing Dungeons & Dragons.
