No Man's Sky Is Getting a PlayStation VR2 Version

No Man's Sky is getting a PSVR2 version, and it should launch alongside Sony's new headset as a free update to the core game.

Announced during Sony's State of Play event, developer Hello Games explained that it has been secretly developing a new version of the game for PlayStation VR2. In a statement, co-founder Sean Murray said, "the power of PlayStation 5, coupled with the all-new PlayStationVR2 hardware, including the new Sense controllers, combine together to take that sense of immersion and believability up another level."

A trailer showed a number of situations from the game, with a particular focus on the player's hands controlling their ship and weaponry – presumably hinting at how the version will make use of PSVR2's hand-tracking controllers.

The company isn't talking about any specific new features being designed for the PSVR2 version of the game, but added that, "this will be a moment for us to focus on VR players of all types." The implication appears to be that all VR versions of No Man's Sky could be due for an upgrade.

"When we first embarked on VR for No Man’s Sky around the time of the BEYOND update back in 2019," Murray continued, "we knew that it was going to be a massively complex technical challenge. It was a tall order from our small team to squeeze an infinite universe into that headset on top of all the VR-specific features we wanted to implement. Since then we’re released a ton of updates and new content and this is a lovely moment to revisit those features through an incredible VR headset."

No Man's Sky has transformed hugely since launch after a number of major free updates. Its latest was a new exhibition that added a roguelike element and space whales. Coming soon should be yet another new platform for the game, this time Nintendo Switch.
