Marvel's Iron Man VR New Combat, World Details Revealed

Marvel's Iron Man VR is set to be released on PlayStation VR on July 3, 2020, and developer Camouflaj has given us one last look at the game's combat, world, and all-star cast before next week. Marvel's Iron Man VR's director Ryan Payton of Camouflaj took to PlayStation.Blog to give fans an "unprecedented look at what you can expect from the full game." Big & Open Environments

The environments in Marvel's Iron Man VR needed to be huge to accommodate for players flying at high speeds as Tony Stark. Payton confirms that "you can fit twenty-three entire world instances of République into the initial Maliby environment." République was Camouflaj's first game. Payton continued by discussing some of the environments players will travel to as Iron Man, including a fully realized S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier that Iron Man can fly in and outside of. Another location will be Shanghai, which "gives players the unique sensation of flying through a high density downtown with plenty of tall buildings to weave in between." The story will also take Iron Man to a decommissioned Stark Industries plant. It's a relatively smaller area, it "only fits three entire République worlds," but it is ideal for tackling Combat Challenges. Depth of Combat and Gameplay

Marvel's Iron Man VR will have a deep combat system, and some of the abilities available to players were also discussed. The first one is Boost, which is pretty self-explanatory, but Payton confirmed the team has increased the frequency at which it can be used in the full game. Iron Man will have his Rocket Punch, a Ground Pound ability, various Auxiliary Weapons that can be unlocked by using Research Points at the Armor Station, and the iconic Unibeam, the devastating attack from Iron Man's chest. Due to the fact that Marvel's Iron Man VR is exclusive to a VR platform, it allows for specific interactions that could not take place anywhere. These moments include "extinguishing an engine fire or rescuing Pepper from a burning jet" in a more immersive way. One example Payton gave takes place in the Helicarrier campaign mission. Players can "grab a heavy door with your left gauntlet and then thrust backwards with your right! The team iterated heavily on this Super Hero Action to give it a real sense of weight." Story, Armor Station, and Tony's Garage

Camouflaj originally anticipated that its PlayStation VR-exclusive game's story would last about 4-5 hours, but recent playtest data has actually revealed that "average playtimes are now roughly double that!" Marvel's Iron Man VR strength, according to Payton, is "how it pairs great action with relatable character drama." This VR game will include exciting Iron Man action moments "intertwined with a personal story about Tony Stark struggling with his worst enemy: himself." Payton also teased that the team "made arming the Impulse Armor with weapons part of Tony's Journey to overcome his past." To do this, players will be able to enter the Armor Station to see the Impulse Armor in "all its glory." This is where players can upgrade the armor with new augments and auxiliary weapons. It's all done with an intuitive 3D interface, another piece of the puzzle in making you believe you ARE Iron Man. Besides the Armor Station, Tony's Garage can be explored and players can "squeeze in a workout, give Pepper a call, or maybe listen to our in-fiction podcast series hosted by a close(ish) family member of Tony Stark..." All-Star Cast of Marvel Characters

The story of Marvel's Iron Man VR will include classic Marvel characters like Pepper Potts, Nick Fury, and FRIDAY. However, there will also be a "host of other characters we have yet to reveal." There are specific moments in the story that has you interacting with these characters, so it won't be as if they are only talking in your ear as you are flying around the world. It was already revealed that Tony Stark and Ghost would be voiced by Josh Keaton and Chantelle Barry, respectively, but Payton revealed a few more of the voice actors in today's blog post. FRIDAY will be voiced by Leila Birch, Ike Amadi will lend his voice to Nick Fury, and Jennifer Hale will play Pepper Potts. Dwight Schultz, Matt Mercer, and Leonardo Nam are also part of the cast, but their characters will remain a mystery for now.
