Blizzard Clarifies How Loot Boxes and Currency Will Transfer To Overwatch 2

As Overwatch 2 approaches (PvP at least) there are some lingering questions over how the transfer from the first Overwatch to the sequel will occur, including how loot boxes will transfer over. Rest assured, for anyone still hoarding their loot boxes, those contents will transfer over to Overwatch 2. In a RedditAMA , someone asked whether loot boxes will carry over to Overwatch 2. However, it should be noted that Blizzard is doing away with loot boxes completely for the sequel. However, for anyone still keeping their loot boxes, those will be opened automatically and their contents will be transferred to your account in the sequel. "We'll share a more detailed explanation on all of these topics before Overwatch 2 goes live in October. To give you a quick answer now though, those existing currencies (credits, OWL tokens, and competitive points) will come with you into Overwatch 2," writes Overwatch commercial lead Jon Spector. Spector added that any unopened loot b...

Ascension Tactics: Miniatures Deckbuilding Game Review

Image
Ascension has been one of the most prolific deckbuilding games for over a decade. Across many releases, publisher Stone Blade Entertainment has perfected the system of plucking cards from a public offer in order to construct unique engines. WIth Ascension Tactics, they’ve now taken that wisdom and put it to use as the backbone of a rich tactical miniatures skirmish ( see it on Amazon ). The union is seamless as this odd concoction of systems is surprisingly smooth. The classic Ascension lineage is front and center. Everything is driven through card acquisition and the deck you build. The benefit is that the bulk of rules text, special abilities, and exceptions are smartly consolidated into the various cards you acquire. This allows the miniatures skirmish battle taking place on the board to be rather lean and focused, making for an exceptionally easy game to teach and learn. Participants alternate taking turns playing their hands and attempting to squeeze maximum efficiency out ...

Team Fortress 2's Latest Update Has Community Optimistic, But Isn't a Magic Fix for Botting Problems

After a series of community protests about the bot-ridden state of Team Fortress 2, Valve has released a new update for the game that has some tentatively hopeful change is coming, even if the patch itself is not a magical fix-all solution. The update , which was pushed yesterday, includes a number of bugs and exploit fixes, most of which actually have nothing to do with botting. For instance, there's a fix to issues with animations on enemies that only appear during Halloween events and a fix for a years-old bug that occasionally showed placeholder names for players on kill cams and stat screens. Many of these issues have been around for years and were mostly annoying, but not game-breaking. So their fixes, while welcome, are not exactly profound bot-fighting changes. But there are a few changes in the update that has the Team Fortress 2 community cautiously optimistic. The biggest change is to the vote system: previously, Team Fortress 2 only allowed one vote to kick a play...

Sonic Origins: Fans Don't Seem Happy About the Big Changes To Sonic 3's Soundtrack

Sonic Origins is meant to be an authentic celebration of the classic 2D Sonic the Hedgehog games, but not quite all of the content is making it into the compilation that launches later this week. The game, which includes remastered versions of Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles, and CD, also features new animated cutscenes, bonus objectives, and more. However, fans aren't happy that the game doesn't contain the original, authentic soundtrack for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 soundtrack has a complicated history . It's a well-known piece of video game trivia that Michael Jackson apparently worked on the Sonic 3 soundtrack, which has led to years of speculation over what legal rights Sega may or may not have to rerelease the game with its original music. For years, Sega did rerelease emulated versions of Sonic 3, which included the original music. But now, that version of the game is unavailable as Sega delisted classic Sonic games from digital storefronts ah...

Best Anime Series on Netflix Right Now (June 2022)

Image
It’s the official halfway point in the year and thus far, Netflix ’s continued steadily adding to the anime library. But, the streamer’s shift in priorities can definitely be felt. There’s been a mass cancellation of most of its western animation projects and a steep drop off in licensing of classic series and creation of its own original series as well. Hopefully the powers that be will realize shortchanging its anime audience doesn’t make good sense (or dollars). For the present, subscribers who live in the anime library will have to be satisfied with a slow drip of new titles, like five episode series Vampire in the Garden , and circling back to the goodness to be found among the classic anime series. Note: As this is a list of anime series to watch, no anime movies were considered for this feature. This list applies to U.S. Netflix subscribers. Some titles may not currently be available on international platforms (yet). This list will also be periodically amended to remove seri...

Johnny Cage Actor Might Be Teasing Mortal Kombat 12

Andrew Bowen, the voice actor for Johnny Cage in the Mortal Kombat series, is back on the lot at Warner Bros. for... something. In a now-deleted tweet, Bowen shared a video of the voice actor standing in the Warner Bros. studio lot before staring at the camera with a mischievious grin. It's the latest in a series of Tweets Bowen has been sharing online of him working on something in the Warner Bros. lot. Fans have been quick to point out that this is yet another tease for the next Mortal Kombat game, which has been not-so-subtly hinted at over the past year. NetherRealm Studios' Jonathan Andersen previously shared a photo that included a desktop file reference to Mortal Kombat 12. While NetherRealm still isn't revealing what it has in store, it has confirmed there is a new game in the works. When IGN interviewed NetherRealm creative director Ed Boon, he had no issue confirming the team is "working on another game," though he was not at liberty to say what i...

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes Review

The musou genre has seen plenty of crossovers, adding everything from giant anime mechs to superpowered pirates to the action over time. While the developers at Omega Force initially stuck very close to their winning formula, more recent crossovers with Nintendo characters have revealed a willingness to experiment. Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes pushes things farther than ever, adapting everything I love about the strategy franchise outside of its turn-based gameplay for use in an action game. It makes for a robust, overstuffed game with systems, menus, and perk trees all vying for your attention. Still, nothing changes the fact that Three Hopes is a game about using a sword to propel clouds of enemies into the air in an enjoyably ridiculous 2000-hit combo, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. While Three Hopes is technically a direct sequel to 2017’s Fire Emblem Warriors , it shares much more in common with 2020’s Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity . It offers an alternate take o...
