John Wick Creator Working on Battle Chasers TV Series

After a 20-year hiatus from the last issue of the comic book series, Battle Chasers is making its long-awaited return with new chapters of the comic, as well as a new, live-action TV series. Deadline has revealed that John Wick creator Derek Kolstad is working on a new Battle Chasers TV show for Alcon Entertainment. “As a storyteller — as well as a super fan of unapologetic and unrelenting action — I can’t wait for people to feel as giddy as I did when I first laid eyes on Battle Chasers,” he said. “The world which Joe has created here, coupled with the characters therein, is both unique and yet familiar. Adapting this for the small screen is gonna’ be a jon.” The new series is being written by Kolstad and will be based on the Battle Chasers comic books. Kolstad and Alcon Entertainment co-founders Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove will serve as executive producers, with Alcon Television Group’s Ben Roberts. “I connected deeply to this material twenty years ago when I first ...

The Best RPG of 2021

The RPG genre can be a vast one, but there are always a few things at the heart of it: the constant growth and progression of your character or party driven by a focus on story – be that a story that is down to earth or entirely fantastical. 2021 was packed full of epic RPGs, some set in warped versions of our own world and others in entirely new fantasy locations. Despite there being exciting options across western RPGs, JRPGs, and beyond, a few have risen above the undoubtedly impressive pack. These are our picks for the best RPGs of 2021. Bravely Default II Bravely Default 2 is a fairly unassuming RPG on the face of it, with more than a few dismissing it for its minimalist story and strange, doll-like protagonists. But upon digging into its myriad systems, Bravely Default 2 reveals itself to be a rich and layered experience with its own sense of style. Each area is its own unique challenge, encouraging you to mix and match jobs while richly rewarding experimentation. After th...

The Best Game of the Year 2021

Fancy a drive through beautiful Mexico? Or how about a haunted European adventure? A pair of familiar heroes make their long-awaited return, and a couple of perfectly-planned assassinations were just some of the best games in 2021. Every year we look back and pick our favorite games of the year. In 2021, we got the highly-anticipated sequels to beloved, as well as bold, imaginative new games that make us fall in love with games all over again. These are our picks for IGN's best games of 2021. Deathloop Deathloop is one of the most fascinating video games of not just 2021, but the last few years. It’s a complex and intricate design, fitting together elements of roguelikes, metroidvanias, shooters, and detective games in a completely unique fashion. On paper, it sounds daunting and almost absurd, but developer Arkane Studios makes the entire process not just effortless and accessible, but truly exciting. Deathloop’s world is powered by an unforgettable cycling time loop fill...

The Best Puzzle Game of 2021

Image
2021's puzzle games brought not only the mind-benders, but they also featured some of the most striking art and design out of games of all genres. From the painterly world of Chicory to the black-and-white art style of TOEM to the visual storytelling of Unpacking, puzzle fans were treated to some great experiences this year. To help celebrate the best of the best, Here are our picks for the top puzzle game of 2021. Chicory: A Colorful Tale Imagine a top-down adventure Zelda-like, but the entire game is a giant canvas where paint is used for both puzzle-solving and plot. That’s the genius of Chicory, where your artist output can grow sprouts into tall plant platforms, light up mushroom-filled caves, burn away obstacles, and guide paint-hungry worms, all while making the world of Picnic steadily more and more colorful. Its clever puzzles are never frustrating, and better yet are frequently thematically tied to Chicory’s emotional story about imposter syndrome, mental health str...

The Best Racing Game of 2021

2021 was one of the best years for racing games in recent memory. Two long-running series put out two of their best entries yet, while two unconventional racers surprised us with their frenetic fun. These are our picks for the best racing games of 2021. F1 2021 It’s a fascinating fluke that Codemasters’ first true attempt at infusing its annual F1 franchise with a full story mode coincided with the most dramatic real-life F1 season in years, but F1 2021’s new ‘Braking Point’ saga ushered in a brand new way to play what’s still the strongest simulation package of a single motorsport on the market. The series debut on current-gen consoles, F1 2021 is also the best the series has ever looked – and the ability to adjust individual elements of the core career experience to help speed things up after all these years was very, very welcome. – Luke Reilly For more, check out IGN's F1 2021 review . Forza Horizon 5 The Forza Horizon series has been the open-world racer to beat ev...

The Best Gaming Performances of 2021

A good story can make or break a game, and quality performances are essential to turning those words on the page into scenes that carry weight and emotion. After all, the best script in the world isn't worth much if it's delivered with all the charisma of a rock. That is, unless a rock is what you're going for – looking at you Drax. These are the best gaming performances of 2021: Jason E. Kelley (Colt Vahn - Deathloop) The amnesiac protagonist is a well-worn trope, but Deathloop puts a wonderful spin on it with Colt Vahn, voiced pitch-perfectly by Jason E. Kelley. Much of Colt’s appeal comes from his bewildered, colourful language as he attempts to find out who he is and what he must do. Kelley adds a brilliantly funny edge to each and every F-bomb that litters so many of Deathloop’s conversations, which makes for a game bursting with attitude-led personality. But beneath all his sweary monologues, Kelley conveys Colt’s hurt. Amnesia is often used to make game charac...
